Check out this video from KRQE-13 in Albuquerque.
It's from today's Jack Thompson press coverage announcing the new lawsuit against Sony, Take-Two and Rockstar.
It makes everything perfectly clear - except for what role video games may have played. That's not so clear, other than Thompson's contention that they are "murder simulators".

Which knowing Jack means any e-mail he would input would be full already and the message kicked back as undeliverable or a junk e-mail that he never checks
has it ever bee clear? does it really matter if there is a connection or not? as far as I'm concerned, there is no other cause for youth violence than games. The new game "The bullying at school" distributed by rockstar southwest and two-take is clearly trying to cause chaos so theyre games can be sold.
Circular arguments at their finest.

You had me worried there for a second.
This is the first time I have seen a case where no mention of videogames were involved that the Miami Meathead has attached himself onto. It's quite obvious Thompson wanted to be involved since it was a high-profile case and that it will raise his notoriety and reputation.
What's next? Is he going to file a wrongful death suit against Take-Two because he believes GTA:SA caused the next terrorist attack?
We get the interpretation from a certain lawyer that this will be a news conference of grand scale, with all the major news networks covering it, with mentioning of how "the industry is out to get Jack".....
....and this is what we get? THIS? Pathetic.
I did a throrough search on all the major news channels today and you know what I found regarding this witch-hunt? Bupkiss:
CNN - Nothing
MSNBC - Nada
Faux News - Zilch
Daily Show - Not worth their time.
Headline News - Zip
CNBC - Zero
So apparantly a local news affiliate in one of Weird Al Yankovic's favorite places (who has a new album out this Tuesday btw) is the stationary equivalent to the Elite of the mainstream media? Wow, where have I been?
Oh wait, its just Jack failing. Again. I should be expecting this more often. Oh wait, I DID. Somebody page Nelson Muntz to the white courtesy telephone please.
Also, great new look for the site, Dennis, FWIW.
I imagine the NM papers will have something in the morning.
I'll have more....
when will this freakshow end
what scares me about that comment is that he could do it if he was persistent enough. I mean it was said the terrorists tried to train on Flight Simulator at one point before they realized they needed real flying lessons if i recall correctly
As for Thompson, he looks more and more like a vulture. This is about his so-called career, not about the deaths of those people.
I like how he ignores the fact that Cody Posey was abused by his father, forced to have sex with his stepmother, and killed his stepsister because he was afraid she would testify against him. I don't seem to recall the "Murder the people who forced incest on you" mission in GTA.
The more this happens though, the more I see Thompson as a vulture. This isn't about the people that were killed, this is about his so-called career. He's crusading and doesn't really care about the families involved (despite what he may have said to them to get them on board).
Last but definitely not least, I love how they gloss over the fact that this boy was abused by his father, forced to have sex with his step mother, and killed his step sister because he thought she would testify against him. No, it wasn't the abuse and the forced incest, it was the video game! That did it! Brilliant, I tell you.
I don't recall a "Kill the parents who raped me" mission in GTA... do you?

As for Jacky-boy, to stay on topic, it amazes me what a coward he is. He runs in, attacks, and flees at the slightest hint of rational debate. He's getting to be as much of an extremist as Fred Phelps.
Anyways, next thing you know he'll sue the beach boys for the Charles Manson family murder.
Boy this is gonna put more confusion in the gaming market.
udx: I've been trying to say that. It amazes me that Thompson blames the game and not the parents, ESPECIALLY in this case.
Alright, somebody said it. I was thinking of comparing him to Fred Phelps, but I didn't think it would be appropriate. But since you put it out there... I think that Jack is about as crazy as Phelps, but he's not evil, you know? With Fred Phelps, he's out of touch with reality and full of hatred. When you talk about Jack, he's just as crazy but there really isn't any "hatred". Jack just has an overblown ego. You can see similariteies between the two but I'm not sure the comparison fits.
I didn't think anyone in jail had the right to sue people...
and I wonder if JT was ever in the same room as this guy since he obviously (in JTs eyes) is a "dangerous Pixelante".
Just like in the Alabama case, Thompson is suing Cody (and Sony, Take-Two, and Rockstar) on behalf of the families of the boy's victims.

I still have this question for John Bruce Thompson:
If video games can train people to perform certain actions, then why am I not a pro-bowl quarterback for the Broncos? I bet that I play Madden a whole lot better that Devin Moore or Posey could play Grand Theft Auto so why haven't I been picked up by an NFL team yet? Can you just imagine if "training" on video games could actually translate into real-world skills (as Thompson always claims)? Can you guys imagine NFL teams scouting prospects based on how well they play "Madden 07"? This can also apply to games like "Guitar Hero" as well. I really doubt that any elite Guitar Hero players actually play for a mainstream band. I can swing a sword a few thousand times in Zelda or Soul Calibur and not actually learn (anything I couldn't learn from a book or movie) how to really swing a sword.
One could also ask him why Microsoft isn't part of this lawsuit(they also "publish" the GTA games). Last I recall he knows this fact, so maybe he fears their big "legal guns" more then Sony's.
Also, as we all know, Sony is trying to destroy youth culture like Pearl Harbor did. Or something.
And for once, I'd cheer for them.

again can someoen update me n this one, wasn't this guy a rich kid that sold drugs for kicks or what not then got pissed when the family found out and such?
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

It was the Beatles, not the Beach Boys, that sang "Helter Skelter" [/nerd].
But it would be funny to see Jacko trying to link "Little Deuce Coupe" to a hit-and-run.
I remember seeing on VH1's most shocking moments of rock 'n' roll that Manson lived with one of the Beach Boys for a little while. So there's the link right there.
Anyway, ZERO coverage of this suit in the Times-Picayune, though most of the paper covered the Saints' 23-3 whipping of the Falcons.
I say: bring it on and lose again. More precedents make for an easier defence the next time.

Whadda say? Care to write a few emails? I know I do.
My comment -
'The game trained him how to shoot? From playing this game, I know that you press two buttons and the game does it for you. On the other hand, he worked on a ranch, and would be very likely to have used a gun to protect livestock.
Which taught him, the PS2 controller or the real gun?'

Weird Al's going to have a new album?! Cool!!

I’m surprised he hasn’t gone after NERF guns. That’s the closest any average child in America would get to any real gun-training.

It's not a videogame. And it's not made by Rockstar/Take Two.

Dannah Says:
HAHAHAHA They took him so seriously they called him JOHN Thompson. What a douchebag.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did find it strange that he was called that. Don't everyone call him Jack?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thompson is just exploiting and whoring himself to the victims of shootings. school, home, or otherwise. GTA will be blamed no matter the age of the murderer. Or what the real issue behind it really is.
I predict that later down the road that there will be another school shooting. The shooter played Bully. Thompson will get up in there and claim that this is the columbine times 10 incident that he predicted. He might also try to convince everyone that GTA also played a role. He'll talk with a few (nonexistint) family friends and confer with (also nonesistint) experts. some people will call him out on his lies and he will claim they work for the videogame industry.
How right do you think I am?

Hey guys, We need to remind these media guys that Jack Thompson Was REVMOVED from the ALABAMA case. AS it stands, not only are they reporting it wrong, but by doing so they are making a false statement about ongoing litigation, a Big NO NO in the legal system. Be nice of use to remind them of this, and Thus make sure they have to put that Jack Was kicked off th case for Ethics Violations.
Whadda say? Care to write a few emails? I know I do.

Sounds good. who in the media should get them?

Thompson also is the attorney in a $600 million Alabama lawsuit against Rockstar, Take-Two and Sony that blames ''Grand Theft Auto'' for the 2003 murders of two police officers and a dispatcher at a rural police department. Devin Moore, now 20, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in that case.

This is why I dislike most news. This is completely inaccurate. But I don't suppose there's a way to get this corrected.
We would be doing them a favor by alerting them to this mistake, as by not correcting it, they leave themselves exposed for both fraudulant reporting and false statements regarding an ongoing case.
So, yes, there is something we can do. WRITE THESE IDIOTS AND TELL THEM!
