Some Opening Day Glitches... But comments are working (we think)

September 25, 2006 -

Okay, we are open for business at the new GamePolitics.

It has been a hectic day here, spent dealing with a number of glitches and we're far from done. But at least we seem to be up and running and still managed to scoop the rest of the game press on the New Mexico nonsense lawsuit.

Specifically, I can't figure out why people weren't able to comment, but I've opened the restrictions that required commenters to be logged in, since logging in seemed to be the issue. So please test out commenting...

Also need to add more of the GP content listed on the sidebar... that's on the way.

Nice Layout Dennis :).

Though I have to agree with some of the others, I am going through withdrawls without my daily dose of the Fourms. I mean how can I use my superpower and link everyone to stories on CNN if there is no fourms?

For every second they are down Jack will file another lawsuite :)

What's a RSS feed?

Whooo! I'm supposed to be paying attention to class right now!

lol, I am supposed to be working right now! Woooooo!

Is that why I haven't been able to access anything but the LJ feed for the last week or so?

Qoute function,plese

Hopefully this gets through okay. Yesterday I had a bit of trouble. I'm ready to hop on...Alley Oop *jumps*!

Awesome new site Dennis.

I much prefer this to having the comments on an alternate board, though I understand that it was necessary for awhile to reduce trolling.

Hope all goes well and the bugs work themselves out!

I like the old site layout better much better in fact, this site well the comments box is too restricted (now a short phrase that used to took half a line now takes 2), the text is kind small and you can't reply to comments. Are all these things temporary?

Hello world!

So, no more screening, right?

Day Two and things seem to be improving. Glad most of you are liking.

Sorry, Father Time - this is the new world order for GP...

We've added a plug-in that lets you Digg /Slashdot / Del.ic.ious any post just before you comment.

Also added a crappy two-click Home link, best I can do for now. Amazing no Wordpress hacker has created that yet, the need is so obvious.

What about the new forums?

GP
it is rather annoying but in time you will learn to tweak it a bit more, hopefully sooner than later.

can't wait to be disappointed with the forums :P

oy I need to start trying to find that silver lining in life...but it keeps burning me 0-o well...that and sun light LOL

Though I do prefer to have this pop up in my LJ friends page, I've dropped your feed into my RSS folder anyway. For anybody that wants to keep the LJ integration, I've created a syndication feed for the GP.com RSS feed at gamepoliticsrss.

yay comments back. but as others have said, I'm going to miss the nesting.

Though one question. Is the site supposed to be this narrow or is there a a problem with my browser? Comments are only showing as about 60 characters across taking up only about a 3rd of the screen width making the entire site difficult to read.

hooray new site!

looks fancy.

I agree with jythie about the lack of used space on the page. All this white space seems like a waste. Overall, the site does look more professional. I only hope that this white space issue is resolved soon.

--shroomofinsanity--:

Actually, I would say it looks less professional, or at least a differnt profession. It looks like the type of site that links to a newspaper and tracks comments to various newspaper articles and such. Which granted might be the right imagry for gamepolitics, to me it seems like trying to emulate hack jobs from companies trying to update their image on the 'blogosphere' or some such.

(also if I recall correctly, exessive whitespace was a marketing/design fad that rears it's head now and then, so perhaps the software simply defaults to that philosphy, or newspapers tend to, who knows)

I don't remember ever getting the "needs validation" message here, and as far as I know, the first time I posted here was today.

Andrew EisenMichael Chandra - Unless I overlooked it, we haven't seen how the directive to not talk about whatever he wasn't supposed to talk about was phrased so it’s hard to say if it could have been misconstrued as a suggestion or not.10/20/2014 - 12:35pm
Andrew EisenHey, the second to last link is the relevant one! He actually did say "let them suffer." Although, he didn't say it to the other person he was bickering with.10/20/2014 - 12:29pm

Andrew EisenNeo_DrKefka - "Attacking"? Interesting choice of words. Also interesting that you quoted something that wasn't actually said. Leaving out a relevant link, are you?10/20/2014 - 11:04am
quiknkoldugh. I want to know why the hell Mozerella Sticks are 4 dollars at my works cafeteria...are they cooked in Truffle Oil?10/20/2014 - 10:41am

Neo_DrKefkaThat is correct in an At-Will state you or the employer can part ways at any time. However Florida also has laws on the books about "Wrongful combinations against workers" http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/448.04510/20/2014 - 10:07am
james_fudgehe'd die if he couldn't talk about Wii U :)10/20/2014 - 9:16am
Michael ChandraBy the way, I am not saying Andrew should stop talking about Wii-U. I find it quite nice. :)10/20/2014 - 8:53am
Michael Chandra'How dare he ignore my wishes and my advice! I am his boss! I could have ordered him but I should be able to say it's advice rather than ordering him directly!'10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP goes "EZK, do not talk about X publicly for a week, we're preparing a big article on it" and he still tweets about X, they'd have a legitimate reason to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP tells Andrew "we'd kinda prefer it if you stopped talking about Wii-U for 1 week" and he'd tweet about it anyway, firing him for it would be idiotic.10/20/2014 - 8:51am
Michael ChandraLegal right, sure. But that doesn't make it any less pathetic of an excuse.10/20/2014 - 8:50am
ZippyDSMleeYou mean right to fire states.10/20/2014 - 8:50am
james_fudgesome states have "at will" employee laws10/20/2014 - 7:50am
quiknkoldIt says in the article that being in florida, you can get fired regardless if its a fireable offence10/20/2014 - 7:19am
Michael ChandraIf your employee respectfully disagrees with your advice, that's not a fireable offense. If they ignore your order, THEN you have the right to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 6:49am
Michael ChandraI... Don't get one thing. If you do not want your employee to do X, why do you tell them it's advice or a wish? Give them a damn order.10/20/2014 - 6:48am
james_fudgeA leak that had me worried about being swatted by Lizard Squad.10/20/2014 - 6:03am
