At
GamePolitics we love to hear about gamers doing good - especially at this time of year.
So we're delighted to report that
Child's Play, the charitable organization founded by the guys behind the popular
Penny Arcade site, has raised more than $800,000 worth of toys, games and books for 35 participating children’s hospitals in the United States and elsewhere.
Contributions were raised through a charity auction, a charity dinner and via sales of Child's Play merchandise at
Think Geek (T-shirt seen at left).
Said Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo:
A huge thank you to all of you who are helping improve the lives of kids this holiday season. The generous support of the game community has allowed Child’s Play to grow each year, reaching more children in more cities around the world.”
New participating children's hospitals include facilities in New Orleans, South Texas, Roanoke, Virginia, Philadelphia, Boston, Buffalo and Australia.
Comments
As a long time donator to CP, thats not why I donate. I donate in the memory of a friend whose not here anymore, even after a heroic effort by the hospitals to save her.
I want that to end, and for kids time in the hospitals to be less sad.
Thats what Childs play is about.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus, and Happy Wintereenmas!
By the way, seeing Jack's name after reading such a heartwarming article is like hearing your girlfriend scream "Daddy stop!" during sex.
I agree with you sir Daniel, if Jack Thompson don't like video games, instead of placing his useless crusade above spending time with his family, he can take his child to go for outdoor activities, like swimming, soccer, skateboarding or indoor activites like Twisters, Monopoly, Game of Life, Boggle and even Crossword Puzzles.
Or better yet, buy Disney's Pixar Toy Story Buzz Lightyear action figure and Woody pull string doll (I have one) for your child to play.
I believe that, when there is a will there is a way.
He expects Child's Play to break $1,000,000 with just this year's donations, and the charity as a whole has earned over $2,000,000 since it began.
Gamers did that.
