Booyah! Mad Money Host Calls T2 a "Total Battleground," Talks Game Biz

March 28, 2007
With Take Two's shareholder meeting looming large for tomorrow, Mad Money host Jim Cramer discussed video game stocks on TheStreet.com's Wall Street Confidential videocast. Of Take Two, Cramer said:
I am curious to see whether Take Two can move. Obviously there's two camps. Bears (are) telling me that Take Two is worthless. (But) the people who are behind the change in Take Two are too smart to ignore. Total battleground.

Speaking of other game companies, Cramer liked the Wii ("Woo, is that something!") and mentioned that he enjoyed playing Tiger Woods Golf on Nintendo's groundbreaking system. The outspoken stock picker was also high on PlayStation 3 manufacturer Sony as an investment. But the Mad Money host was down on Microsoft, citing the Zune and MSN as underachievers and doubting the ability of the Xbox 360 to push Microsoft stock higher:
Xbox is real good, but it can't be a driver.

Among companies mentioned, Cramer was most bullish about GameStop:
This is the best in show demographic retailer and they continue to do the right thing.

HD pricings are heavily controlled a new 60GB drive is as much as a new 160 its odd.

Ok help me with my "facts"
the 360 HDD is locked down you can not simply replace it with another drive.

Some videos/mp3s bought off live are locked can not be moved to a USB drive, thus handicapping the 360 futher.

this is a issue however the fail rate annoys me more,so much so I have yet to buy one,I have played with it at a friends house, even ater 2 months had tos end in it plus I know almost 12 others that have had issues and half of them issues with their fixed console.
Those it does piss me off that they charge 100 for a 20gb version from a line of laptop HDs that only cost $119.00 for a 160gb drive.
Actually you can use a western digital bevs drive, if your motivated, an get a much cheaper 20gb drive. You can only use one a big as the largest drive MS has put out, but its still cheaper.
PHOENIXZERO
witch is funny they baned the sale of used PC games.

Phantom
From what I have seen 20 years most things will have online distro,in the next 50-100 online distro will be the new emerging format that then slowly replaces in hand stuff after that.

True NIN is focused, MS and Sony have shown they are sloppy 2nd to building a console and sometimes try to hard to tact on their own stuff to it needlessly.

HDMI is not bad but not great either component is good enough you can always get a adapter to change HDMI to component.
to me the 360 fails on at least 3 grounds
1.Hardware the fail rate is to high
2.Hard drive limit (extrunal drives are the pits)
3.First year of live gold should be free(in all a minor annoyance)

the new model is laughable 90nm CPU with HDMI and a black case and new HDD without the fully revised chipset why are they padding the price, plus the 120HD is also a 180$ stand alone,MS has lost all the respect they gained from me laothing sony.....now I am unhappy with both however there is light MS will be fully upgrading the premium 360s later this year with the 65nm CPU/HDMI/120HD,of coarse I bet its the 20GB HD and not the 120,I love MS >>
Brokenscope
how can you upgrade the HD on the 360 when its locked via frimware?

sure you tact on a USB HD or flash drive but its limted to what it can do,last I checked you cant move the downloaded movies to it just saves and MP3s.
As Emeril is to cooking shows (or Iron Chef is to cooking shows), Kramer is to investment shows. He really knows his stuff and he's easily excitable.
I'm not sure that online distribution will fully replace in-hand merchandice. There's always going to be a market for it. Heck, bands are still putting albums out on vinyl, even in the age of MP3s.
I dunno about their policies but Gamestop/EB merger was big, they're still in second place when it comes to selling videogames where Wal-Mart is still way ahead of them. But the company thrives on used game sales, which is where they make the majority of their money. Which, developers and publishers absolutely hate since after the initial sale, they're cut out of the profits being made on each subsequent resale. EB and Gamestop are running on borrowed time though. Once online distribution becomes more popular and eventually a standard, they're going to be screwed when people no longer can trade in for next to nothing for them to resell at a much higher cost. Luckily for them that's still a very, very long ways away.

I'm starting to recall something with their policies that was talked about awhile ago but just can't get it out of the back of my mind and into the part that still works..... Oh yeah, there was that management thing with M rated games from awhile ago where if an employee sells an M rated game to someone they shouldn't have, not only does the employee get fired but so does the manager.... But uhh there's more than that, hmm.
There are currently internet rumors that Microsoft is buying TT and that an announcement will be made early tomorrow. Just rumors.
@ Zachary, what exactly is wrong with the company, can you be more specific?
I've never watched this guy is he really that bad?
@Zippy
Are you talking about HD as in HiDef? or HD as in Hard drive? Cause you can upgrade the hardrive and I will most likely never touch and HDMI port.... I hope... please don't become the standard.... /cry /drm /tinfoil

The hardware is fine. I still think that in the end smart programing can bring the 360 and the Ps3 closer together. Unless of course they make better compilers for the ps3 sooner than expected.
ZippyDSMlee says, "I wish I had Nintendo stock,it nearly doubled after the WII"

Of course it doubled. Nintendo is in the games industry as a gaming company.

MS is a software company in the games industry. A saltwater fish in a fresh water lake so to speak. Their stock will not be affected signifcantly by the Xbox or the games they produce.

Same with Sony. They are a hardware company in the games industry.
I like On the money on CNN better,Jack is so cool :3

"GameStop:
This is the best in show demographic retailer and they continue to do the right thing."
Best in show meaning they seem to have the best looking charts....heheheheh

"Xbox is real good, but it can’t be a driver."
MS made to many mistakes with the 360 they could have been a driver if they had better hardware and let the HD be upgradeable.

I wish I had Nintendo stock,it nearly doubled after the WII >>
I love this guy, he's so fun to watch.
I was watching this segment in a hotel lobby.
"[GameStop] is the best in show demographic retailer and they continue to do the right thing."

Proof that this guy is a total loon.
He's also a moron.

GameStop? You've got to be kidding me. From what I've seen of their corporate policies, I'm shocked they are still in business.

Idiot.
I have a hard time believing that this takeover will fix the problems in T2. IT will require a lot of effort from the new management to fix everything that is wrong with the company.
One stock that's been good to me:
Activision. Low in the summer, peaks in the winter.
How can people stand watching that guy? All he does is freakin yell at the camera.

JDKJ: But cheer up, Austin. If the unemployment rate continues to double-digit as predicted for the next few years, your half-dozen stands a better than likely chance of returning to power.

JDKJ: @DS: If he had added the line about "or hiring illegals aliens under the table to work as nannies," it would have been a completely perfect descripition. And, yes, it's about the same difference between a six and a half-dozen.

DarkSaber: My god, that description makes them sound almost Republican. Still what did you expect, Obama is only marginally more left than republicans.

Posted 11/08/09 at 01:06am
Austin_Lewis: Yes, and what a piece of crap it was. Arresting and fining people just because they don't make a personal choice to buy healh insurance, creating over a hundred new bureacracies, and worse.

JDKJ: Which could be explained by both (a) and (b).
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:56am
Austin_Lewis: JDKJ: You forgot C) the fact that, for some reason, every time he did something that would suggest he shouldn't be in the military, let alone an officer, higher ups ignored it or let it slide.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:51am
JDKJ: Part of the problem is, I believe, that (a) the Army had a lot of time and money already invested in him and which they were unwilling to simply write-off and (b) an increasing need for the type of skills and services he provided.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:48am
JDKJ: And that even if he was begging not to get cut loose, he was apparently a real good candidate for being cut loose, anyway.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:11am
JDKJ: @chada: And while Kennedy once noted that there's usually more than enough blame for everyone to get a slice, the possibility that the Army was unwilling to cut loose someone who was asking to get cut loose could be a factor.
