Game Retailers Boss Reacts to FTC Report

April 12, 2007
Bo Andersen, President of the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA), the trade association representing video game retailers, has joined industry colleagues in weighing in on today's FTC report:
We are very gratified, but frankly not surprised, by the FTC's findings that video game retailers have demonstrably and significantly increased the level of enforcement of the 'Mature' rating for video games at the point of sale. Retailers have improved their enforcement of store policies restricting the sale of Mature-rated games by 362% - from a 16% to a 58% turn-down rate - since the FTC's first shopping survey in 2000 and almost doubled the turn-down rate since the last survey in the fall of 2003.

Retailers have honed their focus on video game ratings enforcement and invested heavily in ensuring widespread adoption of video game ratings enforcement...  The FTC also highlighted several other areas that need the attention of video game and DVD retailers. EMA is committed to examining these recommendations closely and encouraging retailer adoption of the recommendations, where appropriate.

I am glad that the FTC put the games industry on a pedestal. You know the Movie and Music industries don't deserve it. I would like to hear some comments from the heads of the MPAA and the RIAA over this new report.

Hi...I found your site via Yahoo! when i was searching for new video game, and this post regarding Game Retailers Boss Reacts to FTC Report really sounds very interesting to me.. Thanks

ZenI felt Brutal Legends was a funny & beautiful look at the world of rock from Double Fines point of view. The only parts I wasn't hot for were the RTS bits as it felt forced. Otherwise fantastic.02/12/2012 - 1:34pm
DorthLousPassed 1.5M$. And I'd also say that Brutal Legend is far from being a bad game. I just think it was a few levels under what people expected from the people working on the project.02/11/2012 - 8:25am
TechnogeekBrutal Legend wasn't bad so much as "marketing had no idea how the game actually played", causing it to suffer accordingly.02/10/2012 - 10:38pm

GuamishI think it is in good hands. Tim did a game for the GDC award show and that was fun for how short it was.02/10/2012 - 12:22pm
Andrew EisenIt'll be tragic if the game ultimately sucks.02/10/2012 - 12:17pm
