Bully on the Wii? Can the Republic Survive?

July 19, 2007
Take Two Interactive has just issued a press release announcing Bully: Scholarship Edition for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. From the T2 release:
Both the Wii and Xbox 360 versions will retain the wit and deep gameplay of the previously released [PS2 version] and will boast additional new content.

That sound you're hearing is the gnashing of teeth and rustling of legal papers coming from the direction of Miami. Is there anyone who doesn't recall last October's courtroom zaniness which accompanied the original PS2 version?

No date has been specified, but expect the new Bully editions sometime during the coming winter.

Ya the WII is in need of better "control" they need to polish it till it can "blind" everyone :X

Please, please, PLEASE tell me that Rockstar managed to program the Wiimote into a gigantic slingshot.

I love that game.

I'll just pull up a lawnchair and wait, the fireworks and free entertainment should start any minute now

I can't wait to see how the wii controls factor in, and the graphics, oh, if Rockstar doesn't upgrade them it'll be a travesty.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the US, a certain attorney will soon be able to soon build himself a new house.

Nah, I'm sure he learned his lesson last time........ But, then again this IS Wacko Jacko.

I thought I heard an orgasmic squeal coming from somewhere in the southern US.

Forgot to say

In before Jacko declares that this will never see store shelves.

aww man...now I have to buy the game again.

Phantom,
I can't imagine HOW a slingshot could be represented with the existing controllers on the Wii. Come to think of it, for any other game, I can't imagine a bow for bow and arrows either.

However, I didn't buy Bully when it hit the PS2 because, at the time, I had to sell my PS2. Now, I have an Xbox 360 and I would much prefer it on that system anyway. So I really will be looking to pre-order that one when it's available.

I'm also tempted to buy it again! It was a very fun play through. I've thought about firing it up and playing through again.

Now if I can get a proper, new GTA expereince on my Wii Console, I'll be pretty happy.

sweet, the potential the wiimote has for this game is insane

I just hope the bugs in the PS2 version I got aren't evident in these versions.

Okay, maybe that was a flaw with the disc or something, though I saw no scrathes. But still.

Here comes moped Jesus, the world is burning.

@kurisu7885

i doubt on an increase in graphics... i mean, this is the wii were talking about... the graphical improvment that can be obtained on the wii from the PS2 is rather minimal, so much such that it woudln't be worth rockstar's time to actually upgrade it... if it JUST for the 360, then yes, there would be plenty rockstar could do... besides, it's a lot more profitable to just re-release the game with new content then to upgrade the graphics, especially since the game wasn't released for nintendo or microsoft.

This is basically Take-Two giving Jack the finger.

@monte'

Good point.

Title is 10/10, GP.

I never got to try this title still, this can help the Wii's lacking library; SSBB should be the breaking point of the drought, while this can probably tide me over until then.

I bet whacko Jacko will try again since it has Wii controls now, stating the slingshot will be showing up even more now since you hold an imaginary one by using the wii-mote.

I'm looking forward to Wiimote controls (and hopefully upgraded graphics).

@Brokenscope:

"Moped Jesus" is a funny phrase. Kind of like "Jack Thompson, Attorney".

@nightwng2000

"I can’t imagine HOW a slingshot could be represented with the existing controllers on the Wii. Come to think of it, for any other game, I can’t imagine a bow for bow and arrows either."

You can't imagine it? I think I've figured it out. However, I think I'd have a tough time putting into words.

@Gabriel Celesta

Nah, let's let Jack figure out how this version will trai nthe kiddies ot kill with a slingshot.

JT won't be pushing against this. He might spew forth some vitriolic linguistic bule, but I doubt he will try to sue. He's too busy massaging his ass after the last Bully related incident.

On another tangent, the Wii would make a great control for a bow or slingshot. Imagine, holding down the trigger on the Wiimote whilst pulling back the nunchuck as the drawstring, and then releasing the trigger to release the arrow/shot. The longer you take in drawing back on the string (with limits, of course) the more accurate your shot, taking into account your aim with the Wiimote. Simple

P.S. OMG I COPYRIGHT THAT IDEA THOUGH I'M PRETTY SURE SOME DEV IS ALREADY WORKING ON IT :P

And by bule I mean bile. Double post FTW.

@Haya

Hmm I forgot to mention he was on route 11

@Juggernautz:

Something's ringing a bell...I think I remember reading in Game Informer some time back that the bow and arrows work exactly like that in Twilight Princess for the Wii. Can anyone who owns the game confirm or deny this? Either that, or the article was on another upcoming Wii game, maybe Turok?

Take the wiimote, hold it upright like an umbrella. Bring the Nunchuck close to the wiimote as if it were touching. Hold C down "Grab the pellet" (not sure what hes using ATM) and use the joystick to aim (or hit Z to auto-target). Let go of C to fire.

Creativity. And I believe they are capable of doing such a thing.

But I don't think the game would be good again. I beat the game and let my friend borrow it, and I don't think I want to go back playing it again.

Well, the pull back on the string of the bow or slingshot might be possible, but not very realistic without the resistance of a tight pull.

The Wiimote has strong potential for exercising one's muscles through movement, but exercise through the weight and stress just isn't there. For example, you can simulate the movement of swinging a baseball bat, but the actual weight of it isn't there. You can simulate casting out a fishing rod, but the actual resistance of trying to bring in a fish on the line just isn't there.

With a bow/slingshot (and I'm not 100 percent sure of the full capability of the Wiimotes), you might be able to have them together, then pull one back to simulate pulling back the string, but the actual resistance isn't there. And somehow, pushing the button to let go of the string just takes away from the experience too. Letting go of the Wiimote acting as the string just makes the Wiimote fall, even if the game says you've released the arrow/slug/whatever flying. The simulation kinda falls short.

@nightwng2000

Better would be holding a button on the nunhcaku attachment to hold the string, and releasing it to release the string, but you still don't have the resistance unless another attachment is made.

Now I'm glad I never recovered from my disappointment at the lack of an Xbox version enough to pick this up.

Can you smell it? The rank smell of lies and lawsuits... The pungent aroma of bullshit. I see entertaiment in my future. I wonder what Jack is going to say about this one?

@finaleve

Actually, I was thinking the other way around. The Nunchuck is stationary, while the Wii Remote is held stationary. Hold B, pull the Wii Remote back, and release B.

I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks the bald character looks like Bobby Hill from King of the Hill.

Wild LAWSUIT appeared!

@Tulang That'd be Jimmy Hopkins, the main character in Bully.

i god PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE. ID LOVE ROCKSTAR FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a not to distant future I expect to hear: "Using the control system kids will emulate hitting other kids with their hand movment. The players will also use the controls to simulate hitting people with a baseball bat."

I hope to hear, in that same near future: "Mr. Thompson, didn't you try and pull this stunt LAST year. If I recall, that didn't work out too well for you. What could POSSIBLY make you think it's going to work this time?"

Can't wait...I've been looking for a new game for the Wii, after I get RE4 of course.

Now that Manhunt 2 is on ice, I guess it'll have to be Bully

One judge in Miami must have had a stroke after hearing this. Having to deal with Jack once is enough. Multiple times and you just might lose some years off of your life.

Hmm... now that I think about it, didn't Jack try to get the judge who presided over the first Bully case fired because he didn't give him verdict that Jack wanted, or something along those lines? I wouldn't think Jack would be going back to him.

With the zelda system: you hold the B trigger, point at the screen, and release the trigger to fire.

It works fine, although use the C button might be cool as you could pretend you're using a real thing... more so.

there are no sensors in the wii controllers that tell it how far apart the mote is from the nun, so a close emulation of the sling shot like that isn't really possible.

Actually, I went to the dentist last week, and the dental hygenist noted that I do not grind my teeth. ;)

As to Bully's availability on Wii, I'm sure there will be resultant problems, since Take-Two/Rockstar is now led by a a dilettante, Strauss Zelnick, who thinks Manhunt 2 is "fine art."

Here's an idea: How about if the gay sex in the game this time around features a slingshot?

Whatever happened to the epidemic of slingshot injuries Bully was supposed to have caused after its PS2 release?

This is a very smart move on T2's part. Since Manhunt 2 is dead in the water for now, porting one of their successful, one-console games could put more cash in their pockets.

Sweet, Wiimote bullies...

I'm hoping they utilize the wiimote efficiently, rather than focus on graphics.

i can just hear jack thompson saying "aawww hell no wtf, now i have to go in front of the judge and make an ass of my self damn."

Not that this matters, but it strikes me as odd that Bully was cancelled on the original X-box and is now being made for the 360.

ZenI felt Brutal Legends was a funny & beautiful look at the world of rock from Double Fines point of view. The only parts I wasn't hot for were the RTS bits as it felt forced. Otherwise fantastic.02/12/2012 - 1:34pm
DorthLousPassed 1.5M$. And I'd also say that Brutal Legend is far from being a bad game. I just think it was a few levels under what people expected from the people working on the project.02/11/2012 - 8:25am
