Lyndon LaRouche Claims Video Game Coverup in VA Tech Commission Report

Lyndon LaRouche Claims Video Game Coverup in VA Tech Commission Report

August 31, 2007
Far-out political figure Lyndon LaRouche smells a cover-up in this week's Virginia Tech report.

As GamePolitics reported yesterday, a panel appointed by Gov. Tim Kaine found no evidence that killer Seung Hui Cho played violent video games. In fact, the only title specifically identified as being played by Cho was Sonic the Hedgehog.

LaRouche, however, finds "grave and frightening clues" in the report:
Seung-Hui Cho was exactly the kind of violent-media and video game addict about which LPAC has been warning...

Yet the Virginia Tech Panel went out of its way to understate, or ignore Cho's deep involvement in violent Internet culture, from video games, to underground movies like the violent "Old Boy."

Commenting today on the release of the panel's report, Lyndon LaRouche said, "This commission came under major political pressure to keep out what is known about Cho's involvement with video games--they obviously didn't want to offend somebody.

LaRouche followers testified at several of the VA Tech Panel's public hearings, claiming that video games were behind the shootings.

Comments

They can say what they want. They'll never be credible as long as they still think Nintendo was behind GTA.
Bollocks, bollocks and more fucking bollocks. I for one am starting to get really pissed off with these political wankers trying to 'save the public from videogames'. Still, if he wants to challenge some government board, let him do it. They'll eat him for breakfast.
Another conspiracy theory? Jesus tap-dancing Christ.

Is everybody who is in this crusade against video gaming this moronic? Why the hell would the VT panel be afraid of 'offending somebody' because of video games?

...these guys should start publishing the fiction they're already writing in book form.
I'd really like to know where these guys get their "facts." He's doing a fantastic job coming off as a crackpot. I can just as easily claim that the VA Tech report is covering up Cho's involvement with Lyndon LaRouche's PAC. That doesn't mean it's not a lie. (Disclaimer: I have no reason to believe Cho had anything to do with LaRouche whatsoever--exactly as LaRouche has no legitimate reason to blame it on games, beyond games being a societal evil in his mind.)
"Seung-Hui Cho was exactly the kind of violent-media and video game addict about which LPAC has been warning…"

...except --you know-- the actual addiction.
"Is everybody who is in this crusade against video gaming this moronic?"

That's a big ten-four.

'Political figures' such as this need to lie and fabricate conspiracy theories such as this so their platform is not marginalized.

Now I'm just waiting for the photo of Larouche giving a speech while JT humps his leg.
right. and elvis is still alive and kickin.
It'll turn up. Don't you worry about that..
Man, 2 posts today already, and they're both about people who have no idea what they're talking about. In other news, JFK is still alive, Rap music is promoting cop killing, and the tango promotes casual sex. Conspiracy theories, politicians, nothing better than conspiracy theory spinning politics.
@ WarOtter

Even Jacky Boy thinks that the LaRouche cult is crazy.

It seems to me that LaRouche didn't bother to even read the report.
Could we expect something else from LaRouche ?...

By the way, they recently found another scapegoat : MySpace.
ok, honestly who didn't see this coming?
And like Jack Thompson, we can expect Larouche's cronies to come here and badmouth us and try to make us look bad with comment posts longer than JT's.

Also, if I recall correctly, a Gamepolitics member came in contact with a Larouchite and the Larouchite tried to pick a fight with him. Of course, he failed miserably and the Gamepolitics member didn't even lay a single hit.
Okay Larouche, you have one chance and one chance only to cite the evidence the government chose to ignore that points to Cho as a violent game addicts.

Heres a clue, if you say the washington post, youre even more of a nutjob.

If you find your proof, only then are you alound your insane rants. Thats how we do things in the real world, you need FACTS to support an arguement, especially a conspiracy theory.
Well, no surprise here....
The Goa'uld have infiltrated the government I tell ya!
Dick Cheney is actual Anubis!

@ chris

I guess these days blatant stereotypes can count as hardcore "facts". :P

I wish I could add more than just reiterate what everyone else is saying. But, LOL, just LOL at the video game cover-up conspiracy theory....
Ok where do these people live and what color is the sky in this magic make believe land? Does it cost money to live there? Cause I would love to be someplace where whatever I think comes true and that nothing could ruin that.

@Nightwng2000

Quick get Jack O'Neil, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and Teal'c so we can stop this right away.
If anything, there is a great deal of political pressure to blame/villanize videogames. If the games industry was so "all-powerful", why all the moral panics and legislation over games?
A friend of mine assured me that nothing will come out of this, good or bad. Lyndon will still spout his bullshit, but they are no actual threat, unless you decided to join one of their little gatherings and challenge their views IN that gathering, then maybe you're in trouble, since they have a history of silencing those who challenge their views. Like the German student who got caught in an "accident" after disagreeing with their views in one of their events.
Since when do we care what cult leaders have to say? LaRouche certainly shouldn't be throwing stones at anybody else.
DOUG LOWENSTEIN IS A REPLICATOR!
GP, I'm disappointed in you. LaRouche?! Come on... even Thompson > LaRouche....
"underground movies like the violent “Old Boy.”"

A South Korean national enjoyed an award-winning South Korean film? Shocking.
« A South Korean national enjoyed an award-winning South Korean film? Shocking. »

I know! I won't be able to sleep tonight because of this shocking statement[/sarcasm].
Wow, a South Korean enjoying a South Korean movie...imagine that. I'm part Japanese, so does that make it strange for me to enjoy "Death Note" and "Letters from Iwo Jima".

By the way, LaRouche. Here's a bigger problem for you to tackle. A group known as the Goa'uld have already infiltrated themselves into the US government and are controlling the government actions, including the video game cover-ups. Trust me, my sources are clear. Don't ask me to cite them if you don't cite yours.
I LOVE Lyndon LaRouche! He gives the game biz so much credit that he thinks a vast conspiracy is realistic. Thanks for the respect, man. In reality, the industry couldn't conspire its way out of a wet paper bag. If the indusry was a guy, he'd have his dong caught in his zipper right now.
@ Nightwng2k

"The Goa’uld have infiltrated the government I tell ya!
Dick Cheney is actual Anubis!"

I would SO love to zat Dick Cheney. No double-tapping for the kill, but just keep getting that first shot off.

Then again, I bet Harry Whittington would love to do this, too.

In other news, LolRouche.
Am I the only one amused every time I see "LaRouche follower?" They're right, it's a cult. Meet one of his youth PAC people on the street and it's far, far to easy to confuse them. Sad really.
Maybe Old Boy was just a good movie? It's certainly no more violent than your average American thriller.
I'm not seeing these "grave and frightening clues" alluding to violent media obsession. The statement only mentions three "hints": MySpace, Facebook and Cho's supposed fascination with Columbine. First, I don't remember Columbine being correlated with Cho's interests in past reports. Second, I fail to see how the first two amount to being horrifically scary. Ugh, head hurts...
why is it that when insane people are proven wrong it turns into a conspiricy?
in other news a army of robot ducks marched on Washington today only to be stopped by robot war otters...news at 11....

dennis can you give us lolrouches addy so we can all send him tinfoil hats?
So if I say insane things do I get my own cult too?
Why is it when anyone snaps and kills people that we have to find out "why" they did it? They want to find out why so bad that they make all these false statements. I'm not just talking about Cho. I'm talking about every other person who shoots up a school, place of work, etc?
When will people just realize that shit happens, people snap and kill other people, and there is rarely a time where you can prevent it?
I griped similarly about this with the CCFC, but I will repeat it here. Why do these groups that are devoted to "moral advancement" and "cleaning up our culture" repeatedly use deception and obfuscation? They make the Discovery Institute look like CERN! Seriously, if they're whole case is based on trickery and outright lies, why do they persist? It makes me ill that people can have a seemingly good idea and message but twist it so far through their reprehensible methods and hidden agendas.
Lyndon LaRouche, like every other wing-nut in politics just simply tries to use everything BUT common sense to explain why "all the young-uns are-a killin' each-otha" and he's just another old-timer who thinks that video games are responsible because he saw three video games in his lifetime, of which had violence.

Gasp guys, I play Sonic the Hedgehog. I think I have a terrible addiction to spinning uncontrollably and I have to go kill my classmates to "get the rings!"

So if I play too much World of Warcraft am I going to go out and stealth me some midgets and claim they were Gnomes?

Seriously, this kid was into a lot of seemingly darker stuff than video games, and even if video games were involved, so what? It proves yet again that violent media really affects the already deranged and violent mind. Responsible mature people play these games and have no problem with it.

Let the damn VTech incident go, why the media has to latch onto another false explaination of a national tragedy is beyond me.

And yeah, "Old Boy"? Come on Lyndon, do you even research your shit before you flap your mouth? Wikipedia, old man, works wonders.
Wow....you're an idiot. There's too many holes in your opinion/argument for me to even begin.
"Seung-Hui Cho was exactly the kind of violent-media and video game addict about which LPAC has been warning…"

Gee, why does this have Jack Thompson's stench of lies all over it?
Wow, this press release came out sooner than I was expecting... it wasn't on the lpac site last night.

Hehe

Old ass windbag with presidential aspirations. This guy and his group are always funny.
Someone called this out yesterday. I don't think anyone was stupid enough to take the bet, though.
Oldboy is an underground film? Weird most of my school has seen it... then agen there are allot of Koreans in my area so who knows.
It might have been me. I've grown rather fond of the lpac antics, they are way better than JT. I mean come on, the actually believe videogames are part of a Vietnam era conspiracy to destroy our military and replace it with brain fried kids. Oh yes, and Dick Cheney is the master mind.

You kids who play videogames are going to get you go codes join the military and become batshit loco super soldiers.

They really tend to make JT look tame... I just wish there was a group on campus I could mess with,
"This commission came under major political pressure to keep out what is known about Cho’s involvement with video games"

"This commission came under major political pressure to keep out what is known about Cho’s involvement with video games"

Political pressure? What the hell is he one? Politicians are nearly universally anti-video games.
I thought LaRaouch died of syphilis like Idi Amin, he's certainly as certifiable as the former King of Scotland.
@Danielle

We want to know why so that theoretically we can prevent it, or minimize the damage due to it in the future. That the "why" is seldom simple or easily fixable is no reason to not attempt to do something about it.
Old Boy was a great movie and is considered to be part of the Vengeance trilogy. But according to director Park Chan-wook, the movies are actually anti-vengeance movies in that at the end, nothing goods comes out of it.

I think we've got another case of someone making ignorant assumptions about a movie without ever seeing it, kind of like how some Christian fanatics say Harry Potter is satanic without ever reading the book.
You Know, I hate to say it, but my preemptive quote was pretty spot on.

http://gamepolitics.com/2007/08/30/va-tech-report-rampage-killer-not-a-g...
Old Boy, I think I read the comic at Anime Expo. That's the one where the guy is imprisoned for 10 years and suddenly released, right? Very good stuff. I hardly think that the adaptation of a comic counts as an "underground" film. Also, do they only have their hyperbole or do they have any actual proof of a cover up?
Let's see...
Conspiracy #1 - The Video Game industry, as a whole, is out to get Jack Thompson and ONLY Jack Thompson.

Conspiracy #2 - Manhunt 2's AO rating was a farce by the ESRB and T2 to create free publicity for the game. T2 and the ESRB are therefore in cahoots and trying to trick everyone in the world.

Conspiracy #3 - This whole VA Tech investigation was a cover up to protect Counter-Strike and internet/video game culture.

I hope all of that sounds bat-sh*t crazy to the rest of you too.
What happened to all the people out there who used to harp on 9/11 and everything that was wrong with that situation?
@CyberSkull

"Also, do they only have their hyperbole or do they have any actual proof of a cover up?"

Their "proof" consists of the WP article that briefly mentioned that Cho played CounterStrike, before the WP realized that this was 4-5 years ago when he was in high-school, and he hadn't played any video games since. At that point they removed the reference to CS, and LL claimed coverup...
Ironically LaRouche was charged in 1988 for Conspiracy to commit Mail Fraud. Let's see now according to LaRouche the VA tech Psychopath not playing Video Games is a conspiracy.... I wonder if Jack the Ripper played Video games as well. For some reason LaRouche reminds me of Lassie, barking at the slightest thing that may be a cover up. Also can LaRouche tell us where this political pressure is coming from I'd like to know, mainly because it'll turn out to be the biggest lie this side of the Enron scandal. (Comparable to everything Jack Thompson says) Also LaRouche can scream till he is blue in the face, he still a bigger joke then Jack Thompson and Jack believes that everything is a Liberal conspiracy.
@CyberSkull

Your years are off but its close an enough

Anyone else realize that all these anti-video game ppl act like murders never happen before video game.
To Laroche, everything is a cover-up and/or a conspiracy
@Timmay!

oh great, your part of the conspiracy too arent you
Ah yes conspiracy. The last bastion of those with no evidence.
"Those people are totaly covering up something that could shift blame off the college and onto an already demonized form of media! It makes perfect sense!"
@ The Central Scrutinizer:

You're kidding about Idi Amin right? Please say yes. You do realize that he had nothing to do with Scotland yeah? 1. He was African 2. He lived and ruled by fear in Africa. The movie title referred to the doctor.
"Old Boy" was a pretty good Korean flick. But no more violent than anything in the US.
Clearly this is just a desperate attempt from him to keep his face and that he has been making false claims without any real evidence all this time.

This cover up theory of his is preposterous, he's claiming that a review board would side with the gaming community on this, why would they, they are just there to deliver the facts. It's like accusing a referee of siding with one team over the other.

This really doesn't make him look good.
@ Jabrwock

"Their “proof” consists of the WP article that briefly mentioned that Cho played CounterStrike, before the WP realized that this was 4-5 years ago when he was in high-school, and he hadn’t played any video games since. At that point they removed the reference to CS, and LL claimed coverup…"

I may have just dreamed this up, but was it stated at some point that the WP actually cited CS as the cause of VTech directly BECAUSE Jack said it on that CNN interview the day of/after the shooting itself?

I would swear I recall someone saying this in response to Jack "quoting" the WP, effectively quoting his own blatant lie.
Idi Amin declared himself King of Scotland. (and also king of the sea, IIRC). My guess is the panel was influenced to cover up the video games by subliminal messaged passed through the TV using secret technology the goverment has had since the fifties. It's why they encouraged the adoption of television.
Aw...i missed the Stargate references/jokes...That's like my favorite show...
Hahahahaha!!!

What a sad old man! Yeah, THAT really happened.

What a crock. Excuse me while I go laugh some more.
If there were anyone less deserving of press than Jack Thompson ... To crib from another saying (I can't remember the original): "Nothing validates your position like Lyndon LaRouche claiming it's part of a conspiracy."
Well, to be honest, when the only people shouting are Thompson and LaRouche, you can be pretty sure that nothing really serious is wrong with the report.
If Cho was influenced by Oldboy, then he'd have had sex with his sister rather than go on a kill crazy rampage.

Now, if had been influenced by Lady Vengeance, I'd say the real killer is out there somewhere, framing people for school shootings.
Jack Thompson thinks being gay is wrong according to his God. But, if he didn't think that way, I have a feeling his first homosexual experience would probably be with Lyndon LaRouche. They're like matching book ends, they're perfect to each other. Two big ol' bowls of nuts.
Doesn't surprise me frankly. I'm just surprised he didn't say it was a massive conspiracy by Dick Cheney to protect large corporations.
This is a good thing... When a crazy man claims a conspiracy none of the other politicians will listen for fear of being called a supporter.

home fries, I KNOW who Idi Amin was... and who the doctor was, and I didn't even see the movie... it was just long stretch for a joke based on a common misconception held by others... I really don't need a history lesson, but thanks
This is a LaRouch thread.... he's CRAZY... get it?
Who here is not surprised one little bit? *raises hand*

And 'Old Boy?' Did he just pick that off the top of his head to make Cho sound worse?
I feel like whacking these people over the head with Occam's Razor. It is much more likely that one's preconcieved notions are wrong than that everyone else is conspiring to disguise the evidence.
wtf? did LaRouche just call Oldboy an underground movie? If a Cult movie status and on IMDB's top 250, can you really call Oldboy an underground movie?

What a load of Crap, Violent Internet Culture? wtf??? Such as??

Human Nature is quite violent already, and the internet is about the world...
This nut probably thinks we never went to the moon. He need to rethink himself.
Grrrr, information comes out that's contrary to what we believe, it must be a cover up. If it were up to LPAC they'd be rid of this conspiracy laden government menace... well they would.
@Fire, as Google said in defence of the content of the Web...

Piss poor Joke then. LaRouche isn't even 1/10th as charismatic. He's fun to poke at though. He and his followers lack any form of common sense there is.
Did Cho even have a myspace or facebook page? All I can find are "fan" pages, where of course people are acting like jerks.

The VT report mentions Myspace and Facebook in one paragraph in chapter 8 - with no citations, or URL. How can we be sure they even think he had accounts there, or that they're looking at his page and not a "fan"'s?

From chapter 8:

"Nearly all students experience some level of bullying in schools today. Much of this behavior occurs behind the scenes or off school grounds—and often electronically, Trough instant messaging, communications on MySpace and, to a lesser extent, on facebook, a website used by older teenagers. Cho’s high school counselor could not say whether bullying might have occurred before or after school, as suggested by other unconfirmed sources."

Methinks someone is reading far too much into a vague admission that "bullying happens."
For God's sake, it's Lyndon fricking LaRouche. Why does anyone listen to this man?
There is a reason why this guy runs for president every single time and NO ONE gives a fuck. I have a friend who quit my band (which was on the verge of becoming successful) to join this political cult. They brainwashed him, and pretty much used him up for all his money. They fed him FUCKING HOTPOCKETS while he was living in their dorms in Glendale. Every time this guy would come around and hang out he would find some kind of political argument in something that has nothing to do with politics.
FUCK LAROUCHE!!! For anyone who doesn't know, this guy is the leader of a cult and uses gullible teenagers to fund his own wallet and campaign that he knows will NEVER go anywhere. This guy makes Thompson sound legit, that's enough for no one to care about his opinion on gaming.
@D: If that is true, then I hope that cult leading fucker dies a slow and painful death for ruining those peoples lives. Seriously I hate these cults that ruin peoples lives very much.
[...] It’s true that politics make strange bedfellows. I’m not at all interested in defending pornography, but I at least comprehend that if someone were to make decisions about what is acceptable and unacceptable — it wouldn’t be me, and a bunch of things I have no problem with would probably be banned as well. The same thing goes for videogames: it’s all well and good to wring our hands and exclaim “Manhunt!” in our most hysterical voices… but we’re kidding ourselves to think that yanking those items off the shelves is going to sate people like Thompson (and LaRouche). Games like Metroid, Half Life, Halo, and Resident Evil could easily fall under the “violent” videogame umbrella — as could any game where you weild a weapon against humans or human-like creatures. [...]
