Legal Blogs React to Jack Thompson's Gay Porn Court Filing

September 30, 2007
Here's a quick survey of what some popular legal blogs are saying about Jack Thompson's inclusion of gay porn with a U.S. District Court filing:

Above the Law: Practice Pointers: Do Not File Gay Porn With Judge Jordan
Best Line: (from comments) Been before Judge Jordan. Not the type of judge you want angry at you. I would expect a contempt order and stiff (no pun intended) sanctions.

Southern District of Florida Blog: How to Make a Federal Judge Really Angry
Best Line: It's almost impossible to get under Judge Jordan's skin, but Jack Thompson has found out a way to do so -- include graphic images of gay porn in his filings. This is no joke...

Overlawyered: Latest Jack Thompson Follies
Best Line: Longtime Overlawyered favorite Jack Thompson... to prove his (wildly off-topic) point filed several graphically pornographic photos with the court...

ABA Journal: Lawyer Angers Judge With Gay Sex Photos
Best Line: Jack Thompson's attempt to make a point about a gay news Web site has backfired badly.

Quiz Law: He'll Be Riding Six White Horses When He...
Best Line: Jack Thompson and Paul Revere: Two peas in a pod. American heroes. One warns that the British are coming, and the other distributes images of gay men c*****g.

Comments

You know, after reading this article I don't know how to feel. One part of me wants to pity Thompson, another wants to loathe Thompson even more, and another part of me wants to burst out into song over Thompson's eventually disbarrment.
Right so after reading what jack describes as the vital information that makes posting gay pornography rational (it doesnt).

it seems the entire crux of his defence against the judge is that this other lawyer who operates a private gay website that has links to gay pornography is worse than him and thus jack should get away with being an asshole.

COME ON JACK! youre a lawyer, admittedly a bad one but even you should realise how terrible a defence that is, the judge is right to ask for relevance because even if this gay business was criminal (which it isnt) it absolutely does nothing to diminish your misconduct in any way.

Really jack, at first I was annoyed by you, then I laughed at your antics (i still do) but now I'm just pissed off and I want you gone, not just because you mock the legal system and even the human race with your despicable behaviour but imply because its not fair for the anti-videogame side to have you. i may disagree with the stance but I'm all for rational debate and resolution, and it does them a disservice to be associated with a self obsessed ranting moron like you.

Your hatred and your despicable behaviour and attempts to stifle freedom have earnt you a place in hell, I pray that you can find a way to undo your hate jack, I really do.
I'm still confused how that letter, at any point, helped Jack's case in this entire ordeal? Someone please explain this to me, because I read it and a lot of it was tooting his own horn...
@DarkTetsuya:

He even gets a footnote?
Not a good idea there /b/rother...
Disclaimer: If I piss any of you who are religious off, please understand that I'm just making an analogue from my perspective, and that I do respect that you believe what you believe even though I don't actually respect what you believe.

JT reminds me of every Christian I have ever had the displeasure of arguing anything with. He believes what he says is true, and factual, simply because he believes it so. Like his believing in something to be detrimental, is the reason for it being detrimental. I get the same sort of reaction from Fundy Christians when discussing the Bible, "The Bible is the word of God, and I believe it to be truth." "Really here's 50 examples of how and why the bible has factual errors in it." *Fingers in ears* "BLAH BLAH IT"S THE WORD OF GOD!!!!!! IT"S TRUE YOUR WRONG AND GOING TO HELL!!!!" Jackie's the same way. He's so certain that he's in the right, that he's the persecuted one, and that everyone is just stupid and blind, even though we're the rational ones saying that there's no proof to his asinine claims and that he's really coming off as a complete nutter.

I've come to the point where I simply feel sorry for him. I pity his poor kid, and I really hope Jr's got himself a good therapist and goes by an alias at school.

As a Florida tax payer, and since there's no income tax in this state, any of you that have visited and bought anything are Florida tax payers, I'm disgusted by his wasting of tax money and court time on his crusades against obscenity and video games. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any chance of him ever stopping. His disbarment won't prevent him from filing as a private citizen, and contempt charges will only vindicate him and make him a martyr in his own mind. I doubt any sanctions would even prevent him from being on TV claiming to be an expert on video game violence. Jacko, newsflash, using tragedies to defend a position that only ignorant people with no knowledge or experience with gaming hold doesn't make you an expert. It makes you a pig and a sicko. You prey on victims to further your cause and promote yourself. You should be ashamed. It seems though that we're stuck with you until you die of natural causes. Which sadly will probably be a long time, since I figure you're so oblivious to the world around you that you don't suffer from job related stress. "Ooh, the Federal court system wants to send me to jail for introducing gay porn into the public record, JT FTW!!! HOOAH!!!" Ponce.
"As a teenaged “Student Mayor for a Day” in my 3,000 student high school in my all-white Ohio town"

hmmmm methinks mr thompson might have a little racist problem
@ Nobody

You're just realizing this NOW?
Due to a change in heart I would like to withdraw my previous post.
If it wasn't established before, this reinforces the fact that Jack is the laughing stock of the legal community.
So Jack has untill friday to come up with a reason that justifies what he has done to the Judge right?
@RaZor
November 1st? I dont know where your shopping but I already see stores with entire areas devoted to christmas.
@Johnny

Just one thing I noticed on that site that I find very interesting: "Only registered users are allowed to post comments." Our friendly resident massacre chaser has registered himself as a user of the NGN site? As much as he raves about how much he hates gay people, I find that odd.

I do not think, however, that he will give up, even if he is disbarred. Did the US give up when Germany bombed Pearl Harbor? No! Did Rommel give up when his forces were stopped by the Great Wall of China? No! Did Alexander the Great let the Russian Winter stop him from sacking the Kremlin? No! Did the people of the Netherlands give up when Genghis Khan breached their borders and invaded Belgium? No! Jack will never give up, not as long as their are massacres to chase and more opportunities to make a fool of himself!
From the stupid letter he wants us to read:
"The obscenity trafficking lawyer’s lawyer has now written me and told me that I should
be “ashamed” of myself for “trafficking in obscenity.” I am receiving death threats at
my home because this judge decided to handle this this way. I received a packet at my
home, through the mail yesterday, from a gay sex advocacy organization on how to
“come out of the closet.”"

ROFL
@ DarkTetsuya

Which episode?
So Jack thompson has added gay news sites to sites he trolls. Heh.....
Ahh in that letter hasn't JT done the porn evidence thing all over again with the Howard Stern statement? There was no need at all to quote Stern's statement and requesting that GP make the letter public? he could have referred to the case and the circumstances and results of the case but quoting twice just seems reckless, the recipients of the case could have looked up the quote if needed.

I don't know how JT can defend himself in this, by including the porn material in a submission that is publicly available he became guilty of the same crime he was complaining about, but he went even further he was supplying the material first hand. Damn i wonder how he can use a quote from the bible to get out of this one.
Jack is srewed
Quizlaw wins this round I think :)
I have to agree Chuma, Quiz Law said it best.

Wow, is Thompson's boat sinking fast or is it just me?
Looks good, I wonder if Judge Jordan will accept my "crime is punishement" defence for poor Jack Thompson.

Quizlaw does win the round, indeed.
I've been wondering for a while, can the comments JT has made here and elsewhere come into play at all in a professional misconduct suit? The comments he made a few weeks back about Gamerdad (In the initial post about the heart attack) disgusted me so much, I get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I hear JT's name now. That act alone is concrete proof to me that there is something deeply wrong with JT.

Now we have this which is something that no rational person would do, especially if they are on the verge of losing their legal license. The only conclusions I can draw are that he either thinks he is invincible, or wants to lose his license. If the later, he must either think it will make him some kind of a martyr or it will give him an excuse to bow out without looking bad.

Of course, I am trying to rationalize this. Meh.
Dracis:

His boat is sinking, but he appears to be making more holes in it to let the water out...
No James. This is the internet. Where people can be fucktards in anonymity.

THen again, JT posts like an anonymous fucktard WITHOUT the anonymity.
@ DarrelBT:

Me and the /b/rethen of the pits of humanity are the examples of that, once anonymity is lost, the atitude is lost.

And Jack Thompson is going for "heat" (the übersite sense of it, not the flames).
The score so far: Dennis - 1, JT - -6.
Just as a curiosity, Dennis, any sign of any legal blogs that support John Bruce?

@nightwng2000

I doubt it. The internet isn't big with oxymorons.
I certainly am enjoying the fact that you all are enjoying yourselves with this amazing misreportage. Ask, if you want the facts, for Mr. McCauley to link to the letter to the Ad Hoc Committee that is in the court file. He has it. He won't share it, because it turns this entire thing into something that is a huge benefit to me.

If Your Censor in Chief here is so sure it does not, then he should link to it. Until he does, this thing is what it is: a hoax based upon a lie.

Jack Thompson

GP: if you feel that this yada-yada letter is important to your cause, who am I to stand in your way? so, here ...  My opinion, however, is that it's just like most other things you write, chest-beating, they're all out to get me, etc.

That you manage to hawk your book in the middle of the filing ( ...available at bookstores or on-line
everywhere)
is at once comical and disgraceful. Hoping to sell a few copies to the ad hoc committee members? Or simply bragging that you've written a book?

You seem to want to discredit Judge Jordan's order by making the point that a kid would need a credit card to access the federal PACER docket system and that would keep them out. But you made the opposite argument in regard to online sales of M-rated games.

Have you got one supporter in this ridiculous episode? Even one? Is there anyone, anywhere who gets the point you were trying to make in sending porn to the court, even after the Florida Supreme Court warned you about such nearly six months ago?

If so, I'd love to hear their view. Please send them my way.

Well Darrel, i don't blame him for asking, seeing as Jack has brought up the site numerous times in his court filings, giving the judge and whoever else all the reason in the world to check the site and find his posts.

But yeah, for someone who continually bragged "Ha, i'm using my real name instead of anonymous avatars, you cowardly pissants!" he's sure not making himself look much better.
Quiz Law, how many marriage preprositions have you gotten lately?

Is anyone else finding an interesting comparison to one Justice League (Unlimited?) episode where Lex Luthor finds out he's gotten a fatal case of kryptonite poisoning from carrying around a piece, as a means to kill Superman after committing a crime, for so long?

No offense to Luthor fans, but I'm pretty sure him and Jack would be able to have some interesting conversations with the ideals of paranoia in mind...
Proposition, I mean. My appologies - just one of those mornings!
sure quizlaw is a good one liner but southerndistrict of florida just shows that its not only us here at GP that realise jack thompson is famous for sinking lower than anyones expectations.
Is anyone really surprised that his "peers" find him a raving lunatic as well?
Hardly, BaronJuJu.

His actions are so obviously inappropriate in reference to multiple standards and morals on various levels, to say the very least...

I'd assume that there happens to be very few individuals whom do not find him to be somewhat...yeah. I cannot bring myself to type anything polite. Just insert your favourite description of Jack Thompson before "yeah". Eheh...
I dunno, I kind of felt like we were the only people who saw Jack's crazy this whole time and It feels good to know that his own peers feel the same way about him that we do.

BTW, I hope we are all proved wrong about the violent video game --> real world violence link when Jack's kid goes on a shooting spree from playing all of the M rated games he bought.
A republican talking about censoring.. How cute.
@ *sigh*

Yeah, but even then there's the fact that he has JT as a father... I'm sure that'd drive anyone to kill.
I was wondering how the non-Game Politics-visiting lawyers thought about JT. What Nightwing said though.
Once again, Dennis Mc"Smelly" gets it wrong!
i am a famous law-talky man who has watched Night Court and once i wroted down my words for people to say it was bad and i shouldn't writed them down no more!
Judges get mad at gay people because they are gay, not because i sended the pictures from the magic box to them. Jesus knows gayism is against the constitution of the God and he fights Bhudda all night long to make sure the sun rises in the morning.
of course, everyone who disagrees with me is now and was previously a member of the Communist party and prevents childrens from doing learnings, and possibly gayist retardeds too.
Wow, GP you're right, a 10 page letter of...nothing. Ranting and raving at any person who thinks he is wrong. He still can't write a letter to save his lfe without insulting someone at every turn. Sad, just sad.

I had to laugh when I saw the picture of his book cover on in the letter. Talk about vain
Here is my question: Who pays for all these legal shenanigans?
@Tristram

As a Florida taxpayer, we do for the courts time on this.
"I certainly am enjoying the fact that you all are enjoying yourselves with this amazing misreportage."

Oh, Jackie, there's no misreportage here, you just did something stupid and everyone knows it except for you. Enjoy your disbarment and possible legal action since after all, you did just distribute gay porn for all the world, including minors, to see.
So everyone is against you Jack?
It's you against the world!
The problem is when the world believes your wrong, it doesn't matter much what you think. The majority decides the norm, and last I checked filing porn with legal documents isn't the normal state of affairs in a court of law. Stop wasting my money with your shenanigans.
@BaronJuJU

I suspected as much.

I also read some of the letter (about seven pages) and I have to say that he throws the word "proof" and "proving" around a lot. Also, he seems to think that many of the things he says are self evident. And philosophy undergrad could tell you that isn't the way to go about making a solid argument.
Oh maybe I should have my little sister set up a sting operation to try to obtain these gay images from your submission. After all it worked for you with Target and Best Buy right?
GP, thanks for posting the ad hoc yada-yada.

As a teenaged “Student Mayor for a Day” in my 3,000 student high school in my all-white Ohio town

Out of curiosity, were you ever Hall Monitor?

Many people think that “gay adult porn” is naked men holding hands or kissing.

Really? I would have assumed that "gay adult porn" were like any other porn, except involving gay adults.

It is a miracle that I am now a lawyer and that I have survived

Wow, I really couldn't put it any better myself.
Mr. Thompson, he DID post those letters. Sorry that you decide only to read how many times your name is in the article and nothing else.
Well after trawling through the heap of s*** that was the letter Jack is claiming was withheld from us (notice he always blame Dennis for not posting it rather than posting a link himself because he so desperately wants the attention), it reads like he pasted together every single "urgent press release" he ever wrote all rolled into one.

It also contains numerous spelling and grammatical errors, constant over emphasis of lines with italics and changes of fonts... I think my niece could have written it better. He quotes in bold a line by Howard Stern *twice* just to get peoples attention and the whole of the last two pages go on and on about god and Martin Luther King and at one stage even references Alice in Wonderland...

One of the amusing quotes is that he justifies sending in gay porn because, and I quote;

"Many people think 'gay adult porn' is naked men holding hands and kissing"

Just how stupid does he think the people he is talking to are? Not only that but he lies and claims that the material is directly on the site from his rival lawyer rather than a link stating "I got this obscenity off a Florida lawyer's web site where it was accessible, free of charge, to children". This is slander, plain and simple and I hope Norm Kent gets wind of that letter.
"You seem to want to discredit Judge Jordan’s order by making the point that a kid would need a credit card to access the federal PACER docket system and that would keep them out. But you made the opposite argument in regard to online sales of M-rated games."

In a word, OWNED. In 3 words, SO SO OWNED!

That's the terrible trouble with lies and misrepresentation, isn't it? You keep piling one on top of the other and eventually there comes a time when you make up some crackpot excuse or falsehood that is in complete contradiction to an earlier statement and you end up looking like a fool. It's something that Mr. Thompson has proven himself very good at.

Kudos, GP. I love the fact that every time he whinges about misreporting, etc. That you have exactly the answers and responses to prove him wrong.
@Jack:

I realise that understanding the world around you can be a difficult thing, but how difficult is it to read this blog post?

"Here’s a quick survey of what some popular legal blogs are saying[...]" followed by links to five other blogs which Dennis did not write. Are these five other sites also misreporting? Are they in on the conspiracy? Are they secretly actually Dennis McCauley too?

Who is doing the misreporting here?
"When I get to Heaven, and I am going there.."
Wow, are you really such an arrogant, pompous prick that you just assume you're already secured a place in Heaven? Disgusting...
Wait, Jack actually said that a credit card system would keep kids out of the docket system? What a hypocritical sleaze.
Hehehehehe, poor fool. He's doomed and he doesn't even realize it.

November is going to be a very interesting month.
A few things I noticed in his Ad Hoc rantings:

"I sent a letter on September 19 to
several law enforcement officials proving that this lawyer was criminally distributing obscenity through his official law firm web site."

Can anyone tell me if the National Gay News website that Norm Kent runs is an "official law firm" web site?

"Many people think that “gay adult porn” is naked men holding hands or kissing. It is not. The best evidence of that is, uh, the evidence."

How can you put such childish language in a letter regarding law?

"The Bar won’t touch this guy. He is officially an “untouchable” because the enemy of The Bar’s enemy is its friend. This is not even debatable. I have the proof. "

Referring to my first question, if indeed Mr Kent's web site is not an official law web site (and I highly doubt it is), why would the bar seek to prosecute him over it in the first place?

"the selective non-prosecution of my SLAPP Bar complainant who is committing criminal acts and which The Bar knows is committing criminal acts."

Reiterating lack of reason for the Bar to prosecute someone for running a website with nothing to do with the Bar or practice of law. Furthermore, I realise that gay porn may not be everyone's cup of tea, but is it actually a criminal act to link to an adult site from a site such as National Gay News?

"The porn lawyer has frantically removed from his site this obscene material. "

And thus removed any reason for Thompson to try and drag Mr. Kent into this silly lawsuit.

"I screwed up, like Flounder in Animal House."

A pretty bizarre reference for a legal document...

"When I went to law school, I dreamed of one day maybe even being a public official."

But when you didn't achieve that you tried in an incredibly ingracious manner to tarnish the reputation of the person who soundly defeated you, Janet Reno.

"tried to follow the path that God game me."

A freudian slip perhaps Jack?

" I have a right to be a fool, but I am a fool for Christ, and He has used
me because I know that my life is nothing but dirty rags. I am no better than the pornographer, but the difference is that I know it."

WTF? He has abused the right to be a fool and his life is "dirty rags" because he has made it that way. This is some of the strangest stuff I have ever seen written in a legal document.

"and about children who are being procured for sex through Internet sites."

Where did this come out of?

I suppose I shouldn't be too shocked, having seen some of the crazy religious talk that has filled some of his previous press releases/attempts at legal documents. I would hope that all of the people reading this, regardless of their religious beliefs see it for what it is: An attempt to shift blame by a desperate man at the bottom of a deep hole he has dug for himself through his own inexcusable behaviour.

If I were to insult people as he has, to flagrantly break so many rules of his profession, to ignore court mandates, and use the law as a club to try and push my morals onto others, I would like to think I could be man enough to own up to what I did. Still, that would involve being a man. As Jack himself has explained, he is merely a "fool for Christ". He sees himself as a passive tool being used by his God. How could you expect such a person to take responsibility for their actions? The people he tries to defend make me sick with their "video games made me do it" excuse. The only difference between him and they is that his excuse for his unlawful behaviour is "Christ made me do it."
Okay everyone try their best to alert jack to this hypocracy, hes been a hypocrite from the start but this is both a bold and quick example of it, if in the case that hes a deluded moron maybe if we point this out loud enough he'll realise how much of a prat he is (doubtful). On the other more likely hand, he knows hes a hypocrite and is just an asshole because thats who he is.
Jack is an r-tard.
Jack, having read that letter, I can tell you it's just like everything else you do. Self-masturbatory retardation. A strange way to boost your own self confidence.

Here's the thing, you suck as a lawyer. Your current record proves me correct. In 31 years, you may have won a few cases, but in the last 10, you've won what? One or two?

Now YOU, a piss-poor example of a lawyer, are trying to tell the BAR that the courts are violating your constituional rights? Samuel Powers Jr. ought be ashamed of what you are.

When you get before St. Peter, I'm sure he'll laugh at you for taking our Lord's name in vain so often, and will drop you straight into the pits of hell.
"Many people think that “gay adult porn” is naked men holding hands or kissing."

dot.

dot.

mother-fucking DOT.
“Many people think that “gay adult porn” is naked men holding hands or kissing.”

You know, this is starting to explain why he was so against Bully's potential gay kiss scene. I wonder if Jack knew that it wasn't naked men holding hands before he found the, uh, evidence.
'What has happened since I did what I did to prove The Bar’s duplicity and its outrageous protection of this assault upon the public square by a porn lawyer? The porn lawyer has frantically removed from his site this obscene material. Is that an admission of something? You bet it is.'

Uh... correct me if I'm wrong, but the images were NEVER ACTUALLY ON THE SITE YOU'RE BITCHING ABOUT. They were on sites that were *linked* to, and you willfully and deliberately travelled to those other sites, went through whatever verification process they may or may not have had, copied the images to your hard drive, and filed them.

'I inserted a huge warning on the second page of the letter that what followed were three sexually graphic images that this lawyer was disseminating to people of all ages by means of his law firm web site, which linked on its home page to his porn portal site. Anyone who turned the page had been warned with one-inch-high letters what was on the next page.'

Now, of course I never saw the site in question, or how the links were set up, or how the site the links went to was set up, so I don't know. But from what I heard they *were* marked as 'Adult'.

So, it's okay if *you* warn people there's porn afoot, but if anyone else tries it that's not good enough? It'd be nice if you toned down the whole double-standard thing, Jack...
I think the point is that people log onto Video Game sites and buy a game with their credit card with the specific purpose of playing a pre-rated Video Game, they are aware of the content they encounter before they pay. You are even asked to confirm your age. With PACER, it's an administration fee, nothing more, there's no age confirmation, no rating, it's simply payment to keep the servers running and make a bit of cash.

Students use PACER because of its useful legal content, can you imagine one studying up on current disciplinary systems, browsing this case and loading up an attached picture in the middle of class? No offence to the Americans here, but I've seen how paranoid your education system can be about Porn, they'd probably expel the poor student and not bother to listen to any defence.
@Austin Lewis

Oh, I think we already knew Jack knows precisely zero about the Constitution. If he did, he wouldn't have kept trying to make all those unconstitutional laws.
@ Austin Lewis

Jesus will be laughing at Jack for trying to get into Heaven.

And in the last ten years, he's won ZERO cases.

@ Shoehorn O'Plenty

The people he tries to defend make me sick with their “video games made me do it” excuse. The only difference between him and they is that his excuse for his unlawful behaviour is “Christ made me do it.”

And that really makes them no different at all.

And not only that, by piling on lie after lie, Thompson brought all his problems on himself.

@ Dennis

After hearing people's response to the letter, this is the only fitting response to Jack Thompson:

“What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

@ Jack Thompson

Practice what you preach: Grow up and get a life. And get a new cause, since yours has always been lost.

"Shut the fuck up, you're out of your element."- Walter, The Big Lebowski
Thompson's career is over no doubt ;) .
lol @ JT
@Jack Thompson

Get the fuck out of my state..
You know... I think I'm gonna miss Jack when he finally gets the axe. If it were anyone else, who knows? Gaming legislation might already be in place by now.

So Jack, I salute you and your hard work alienating so many people and being an obstacle to the very change you've been trying to bring about. When everyone else around the country is burning you in effigy, I'll have a little shrine prepared for you instead.
@GP. Yup. It's the usual bullshit letter alright. References to his work against the FCC, etc. He's even included a little picture of his book in it. Ain't it cute.
If Howard Stern said that black people smell like watermelons, then you must acquit!
@ JT

Just because YOU wrote a letter in response does not make your problems go away. That would be like a convicted rapist writing a letter about how he didn't technically commit rape.

@ Dennis

I'm sure you're sick of hearing this now- but could you at least make a seperate JT section of the site and leave the main page for REAL topics where ADULTS are having MEANINGFUL discourse on said topics? JT topics are mostly about nothing or him defending himself.
OMG from the JT filing:

Being a “culture warrior” is messy business. Somebody has to do it. When I get to
Heaven, and I am going there, I am going to ask God why it had to be me.

This guy is fucking insane. "Why me GOD!!!!!!!"

LOLOLOL all the way to the fucking bank. That made my day. Thank you for getting GP to post the link to that shit.
Jack,

When will you get it through your thick skull? You're NOT being prosecuted by the Florida Bar for your beliefs. You are being prosecuted by the Florida Bar because you act like an outrageous asshat every time you file a court document by insulting and defaming fellow lawyers, judges, and other parties involved in the case.

LOL...plugging your book in a court filing! What a tool!
@GP

Hey, question. He starting to piss you off Dennis? Not that I could blame you, the guy could tick off Mother Theresa; but I wonder seriously why this story was worth publishing? Anybody with two working brain cells can figure out it's not usually a good idea to send gay porn, much less put it in court docs; so is it any real surprise that most of the legal community does not share his stance? I should hope not. Just in recent memory - the guy subpeona'ed the president for crying out loud - if congress can't get him to testify I can't imagine why Jack-o would think he could.

My point is, why is this newsworthy? It doesn't involve games in any way - and represents no real substantial bearing on his disciplinary hearings either for or against. Also, frankly, I've read a number of Dennis/JT rebutts, and I never for a moment thought that any of them weren't justified. BUT - the rebutts lately have a bit more spit&fire to them. more charged. Kinda starting to wonder if he's got you riled up a bit?
Who cares what he says now? He showed gay porn to a judge! He's become a punchline like Peewee Herman and Michael Jackson!
@ Hollywoodbob

This is basically any person with an ideology they believe to be the ultimate.
What I don't get is just how Jack thinks that possible wrong doing on Mr. Kent's part means that he is innocent for his own wrong doings. Doesn't Jack think its possible that perhaps they could BOTH get in trouble? The world is big enough for two lawyers to act unprofessionally at the same time.
@Tristram:
And in my experience people like that are void of any ability to think in a rational manner.
Is it normal for lawyers to use the "I'm going to Heaven" defense?
@ zerodash

No, it's not.
Does anyone think Jack Thompson has lost his sanity?
I wonder if JT has ever read the story of the man who thought he did everything right and ended up in spit-polishing the devil's boots.. Kinda relevant don'cha tink?
OK, so I just finished reading the 11 page letter. In case you don't have enough time to go through it all, here is a summary. I'll try to be as nice as possible, even though it's getting harder and harder:

1). I’m really great and here is a list of reasons why.
2). Black people love me for getting Howard Stern off the air.
3). I wrote a book! Here’s a picture of it!
4). Everybody’s out to get me because I’m a Christian.
5). My opponent had links to gay porn (‘porn portal’) on his website and I was totally right to attach pictures of said gay porn to a court filing. But the judge is threatening ME.
6). My opponent should be the one going to jail, not me, but because the Bar is conspiring against me this is not the case.
7). The court asked me to show them this gay porn, but when I did they changed their minds. I am like Paul Revere, and I “screwed up” like Flounder from Animal House because I trusted the judge.
8). Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla. (The last three pages were so boring that I didn't read through them. It's typical Thompson rhetoric.)

This particular quote struck me as odd:

“The chances that children are paying for and logging onto the PACER system in order to surf federal court files, with no search engine to do so, looking for gay adult sex obscenity are between slim and none and Slim just left town.”

Did he… did he just paraphrase Ash from Army of Darkness?
@Quad9damage

hes used that one before too.
John Bruce Thompson has *zero* effectiveness trying to be a lawyer...with a solid track record to prove it.
@ Hollywood Bob

I understand what you're saying, and you completely have the right to believe what you want. However, as a Christian and a gamer, I'm finding it harder and harder to come into these board discussions. I don't mind "bad language" (anyone who knows me knows that I can curse like a sailor when I'm in the right mood) or even the attacks on Jack (he fully deserves them at this point).

What I'm really sick of is coming onto this site and having someone bashing my beliefs and my God under the heading that "This was my experience with Christians." It is hard enough living in this world, always having to justify and explain something that is extremely personal to complete strangers. I don't want to have to do it here.

Please stop trying to justify attacks on a person's beliefs with ridiculous stereotypes. Your disclaimer that "you-respect-what-I-believe-even-though-you-don't-respect-what-I-believe" is ridiculous. I'm capable of rational thought, and I'm still trying to figure out what that means. Does it mean that you love Christians but hate what they believe? Do you love some Christians but hate others? Do you even know what you're trying to say, or are you just hoping this disclaimer will make you look like less of a bigot?

Hollywood Bob isn't the only one doing it, so here's a general message to everyone on the messageboards. Lay off the bashing for a couple days, alright?
I'm happy to see that this thread doesn't already have 250 posts in it. Maybe people are finally starting to realize that we should just ignore this man (speaking for myself as well).
@ Paul

Only because everything that's been said about him has already been said.

@ HollywoodBob

I understand your anger. I used to feel that way too. Then I realized it was making me no better than they, and that there are good Christians out there. They came to this board, and I read what they posted, and it made me rethink my attitudes. And I'm glad they did that so I could see.

One of my best friends is also a Christian. We've known each other for seven years. And while she and I may not share the same set of values, and while we may disagree from time to time, we agree to disagree and we love each other very much.

You're right in that once Jack is disbarred it won't stop him from filing as a private citizen. But just because he will doesn't mean they'll listen to him and he'll no longer have the authority of law behind him. As Ryan posted on an earlier thread, he's regarded as both an embarassment and a laughingstock by the legal community. Ryan is a member of the Florida Bar. And if that is what the Bar truly thinks of him, then his demise is all but assured and they'll be even less inclined to act on any motions he would file than they did when he was still a lawyer.

Likewise, he won't appear on television anymore. Why? Because as a lawyer he could claim to be some sort of authority and he won't be able to do that anymore. Even in his appearances after the V-Tech shooting, news reporters like Chris Matthews were regading him with a healthy amount of skepticism. More recently he was considered to appear on Dr. Phil and was later turned-down. It's not been stated why officially, but reading between the lines suggests that once the producers did their homework on him, they decided against putting him on. Being stripped of his lawyer title will fully discredit him.

Oh sure, he can yammer away all he likes, but once he's been disbarred he'll be just another crazy old religious nutcase. He'll be declawed and defanged and will no longer be able to use the law like a blunt instrument.
@Rachel:

I don't hate anyone. I love my friends and family, and everyone else is basically beyond all but the most basic respect that all people deserve. I am certainly no bigot.

I have a deep respect for anyone who has deeply held beliefs, especially ones that fly in the face of sanity, and promote bigotry and hatred, but I don't have any respect for those beliefs. It's similar to the Christian homophobic ideal of "Love the sinner, Hate the sin." I respect people, not dogmatic tripe from 2000+ years ago. Clear on that?

I think it's funny that on the internet it's the Christians that feel they're they ones that are constantly on the defense, when in the offline world it's those of us that are Atheists that are the ones persecuted. You call them ridiculous stereotypes, I call them accurate depictions of 90% of the zealots I've dealt with. The problem isn't with those of us that disagree with religious dogma, but those of you that can't take having your beliefs disagreed with.

"It is hard enough living in this world, always having to justify and explain something that is extremely personal to complete strangers. I don’t want to have to do it here."

Try being an Atheist or a Muslim. Christian beliefs for the most part aren't personal, they may be to you, but not to most. And those that don't find them to be privately held beliefs like to use them as a shield for every nasty action they commit, and as a spear to try and force everyone else to capitulate to their ideals.

The internet gives people a voice, one that they may not normally have elsewhere. I would suggest to you several options to your dislike of people criticisms of Christians:
1) Grow thicker skin. Just because you belong to a group being attacked doesn't mean you have to be a victim.
2) Ignore the post as ravings of a loon. I could be completely mental for all you know.
3) Change the stereotype. Show us that you're not the kind of person we're referring to, and that those bad experiences we've had aren't the norm.

And above all else. Unless you're aer being expressly referred to, assume that people aren't talking about you. You'll be a lot happier. Otherwise you'll be constantly upset at people like me, and there's a lot of use online.
wow...thats all i can say about this whole situation
@Black Manta:

There's no anger. Did my post seem that way? Many of my friends are or were Christian, and several of my family are devout Christians. They all understand that while I don't honor their beliefs doesn't mean that I hold any animosity to them as people.

I was simply using that statement as an analogy for Thompson. An irrational defense of an opinion, easily contradicted.
“Many people think that “gay adult porn” is naked men holding hands or kissing. It is not. The best evidence of that is, uh, the evidence.”

Of all of Jack's lines, this is one of THE most hypocritical he has ever spoken. Ummm, what did he call the boy on boy kissing in Bully again. Oh yeah,. he called it gay sex, trying to make the game look like it was porn.

Also, to Jack.

Over the course of your crusade, tell me, you have destroyed so much, what is it you could have possibly created, can you name even one thing?

I thought not.

[kudos to who gets that reference]
@kurisu7885

HL2 :)
@New Here

For being the first to get that, here's a cookie.

And now that I think on it, JT and Dr Breen have at least this in common. They both hold it in their head that what they are doing is so right and will be so beneficial that they do not care what gets destroyed.
@Rachel

I agree completely. I'm a Chirstian gamer myself and I've also noticed that there tends to be more than a few posts attacking Christians whenever a story like this comes out.

It does get hard to ignore it when it happens multiple times, in multiple posts. I like this site. I like the news here and I like keeping up with the things that get talked about here, I'm just tired of seeing my faith under attack by people who claim to be open minded but are, in reality, some of the biggest snobs arounds.

As to the story itself, Mr. Thompson doesn't really have a leg to stand on. He knew what he was doing had the potential to get him in trouble and he did it anyway. He wanted the drama this would bring, plain and simple.
@bayushisan

I'm with you on this Bayu. I have met some well to do christians in good standing who have a level head on their shoulders.

Do not attack the belief system itself, attack those who exploit that belief system to make themselves feel better about their dishonorable and unethical actions.
Well, Jack, i have to admire your whole attitude towards this whole thing. You just can't accept defeat, can you? No, instead, you twist the truth and add your own lies to make it seem as if you somehow won. I guess, in your mind, we are all insane bags of shit who don't know what the hell we're talking about, and you're the knight in shining armor who's going to save the public from these TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE KILLER M RATED GAMES THAT MAKE OUR CHILDREN KILL PEOPLE AND DO TERRIBLE THINGS!!!! WE MUST STOP THEM MUHAHAHAHAHAAH!

Please. There is no "misinterpretation" going on here. Anyone who sees putting up g
