Legal Blogs React to Jack Thompson's Gay Porn Court Filing

September 30, 2007 -
Here's a quick survey of what some popular legal blogs are saying about Jack Thompson's inclusion of gay porn with a U.S. District Court filing:

Above the Law: Practice Pointers: Do Not File Gay Porn With Judge Jordan
Best Line: (from comments) Been before Judge Jordan. Not the type of judge you want angry at you. I would expect a contempt order and stiff (no pun intended) sanctions.

Southern District of Florida Blog: How to Make a Federal Judge Really Angry
Best Line: It's almost impossible to get under Judge Jordan's skin, but Jack Thompson has found out a way to do so -- include graphic images of gay porn in his filings. This is no joke...

Overlawyered: Latest Jack Thompson Follies
Best Line: Longtime Overlawyered favorite Jack Thompson... to prove his (wildly off-topic) point filed several graphically pornographic photos with the court...

ABA Journal: Lawyer Angers Judge With Gay Sex Photos
Best Line: Jack Thompson's attempt to make a point about a gay news Web site has backfired badly.

Quiz Law: He'll Be Riding Six White Horses When He...
Best Line: Jack Thompson and Paul Revere: Two peas in a pod. American heroes. One warns that the British are coming, and the other distributes images of gay men c*****g.

@Christians

This is a generic question, but why are Christians in this country so thin-skinned? I hear belly-aching from you constantly, personally and in the news, about how you are being "oppressed" or "persecuted" and that your "faith is under attack." Every year during December, I have to suffer through whining about "there's a war on Christmas" because other people have different holidays and celebrate them differently. You claim there is no prayer in school because you cannot force everyone to pray in your manner, no matter what religion they follow or do not follow. Meanwhile, I've heard plenty of stories about atheists being treated badly by Christians for not following their religion, and seen some of it for myself. There is only one open atheist in the US senate because voters think atheists are devil worshippers and baby eaters so will not vote for them. How are you folks being persecuted? You are the majority in this country, and throughout your history, whenever your religion has gained control in an area, you start persecuting everyone else. As far as I can tell, not only is it a bunch of superstition and witchcraft, it is extra annoying for claiming to be better than everyone else without any action to back it up. As your book says, take the log out of your eye before you worry about the mote in someone else's.

@HandofCrom

I take it that "this country" means The US? Not liable to comment if it does.

I don't know why I'm even surprised at the hypocrisy anymore. His entire argument of why this man is so horrible is that he linked to a site... which Jack provides the address of several times in this letter. And guess what? That letter isn't restricted to adults only. He just provided children with access to a porn portal. (And don't say that Dennis is the provider either, he posted that letter at Jack's own request-- I'm sure the author of a document knows what it contains.)

Also.. since when does god give you the right to petition your government? I don't see that anywhere in the bible. Actually, since when is god relevant to ANY of these recent events?

Quiz Law: He’ll Be Riding Six White Horses When He…

Best Line: Jack Thompson and Paul Revere: Two peas in a pod. American heroes. One warns that the British are coming, and the other distributes images of gay men c*****g. - Haha, thats easily the best one.

@ the honoured Anonymous

Indeed. *remembers the 'Dont mess with Football' fiasto well*

And as for Jackie boy and flames... kill him with fire?

I'm heartened by the fact that the greater law community is well-aware of just how off his rocker Jack has fallen. I always worry that one of Jack's great strenghts is his obscurity, that his infantile antis are low enough under the radar of the rest of the world that they don't realize him for the basketcase he is. That prominent law industry sites are aware of and furthermore disdainful of his idiotic posturing ensures that when Jack finally does get disbarred, no one will be willing to represent him when he presses his attack as a private citizen and not as a lawyer.

Sit and spin, Jack. You're not going anywhere but down from here.

@JT:

LOL (@ you, not with you... just like the rest of the sane world is doing.) also you'd know everything about censorship and lying, amirite?

@BearDogg-X:

I can just envision him standing at the gates in St. Paul's presence:

*shakes head* "tsk tsk tsk... not good, not good at all... and you thought this was going to get you into heaven, how? SECURITY! Take him.... downstairs."

@Paul:

Yeah Jack... Heaven's the one with the pearly gates... that fire and brimstone you smell? That ain't it.

Also, yeah everything's been said already, and even if it hadn't simply ignoring him won't make him go away (and even that is filed under 'been said before')

@GP20XX:

You go ahead, I'll be over there partying with the rest of the angry mob :P

@Nobody:

Just now? No. about 50 years ago? More than likely, yeah.

And that 'six white horses' quote wins, by far...

At least Jack won't have to go far to retire when his license expires in November... :D

@ handofcrom

ok, you seem to generalize alot here. sure, there are some bad christains out there, just as there are bad everythings out there. but saying christians are treating people badly?.... ok there are tons of different types of christians, such as catholic, protastant, baptist and so on. you will always hear the worst, never the normal. why? because normal doesn't sell news papers or get hits on websites. but if it does I will be the first to start the:

www.people_who_do_nothing_to_people_who_are_different.com

it may seem long, but it may catch on.

@ our honored /b/rothers.

Did they have to pay you new doors too?

@ Christians and christian-bashers: Stop it already, it isn't funny, it isn't productive or constructive in the least and it certainly doesn't relax anyone around here. So, stop it. I have had enough of atheists and christinas throwing big words around the place, when will the atheists's "might well be for all we know" get anything else but the back seat anyway? (At least we can shrug things of for long.)

@ JT:

LOL WUT? I mean seriously, you are hilariously wrong all along, a good "how not to" read indeed.

And "Men kissing" is gay porn? It is called **** and is made out of pure fail and stuff, like sandwhiches. Porn is porn, why do I have to tell a grown man these kinds of things? Poor upbringing, I'd bet...

@GP - nice rebuttal.

@JT - GPs right, your letter is crap. Chest beating, book plugging, and insulting to anyone who disagrees with you.

Also, men holding hands is gay porn? Put down the crack pipe, you've had enough.

@HandsOfCrom

It's because those who are Christian, and even thats a big problem cause are you talking about baptist or catholics or greek orthodox or evangelicals, have to hear about every stupid thing someone who thinks they are the chosen warrior of God to the point where they assume he actually speaks to them decides to do something and it's stupid we've gotta deal with the fall out. It's a lot like when you were 10 and had to bring along a cousin or little brother or sister who you aren't fond of to go hang out at the park with your friends. They keep doing stupid things and since they are forced to come along with you in some way you've gotta deal with it.

And yes, most of us get that we are the majority, but that doesn't help the people who use my faith as a money making machine earn the proper profit margin. That's why if you flip on the 700 Cub you hear all about how librials and the gays and the feminists are chipping away at the good American life. People love to help out the underdogs and feel like they are the underdog that will end up winning in the end.

And yes, most of us get the fact that this isn't the proper way for one's faith to be used and get the idea that if we want to take back the main voice of our faith we've gotta get louder then the idiots who keep going on about how "God told me to do this," people. But sadly, "We accept all faiths and find that the proper path to God is to quietly do his works and attempt to lead others in actions and thoughts while respecting the choices of others," doesn't raise as much money as "GOD WANTS YOU TO BE RICH, BUT ONLY IF YOU GIVE ME 100 DOLLARS," or "YOU MUST SEE YOURSELF AS A HOLY WARRIOR OF GOD AND FIGHT FOR HIM AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY," so its hard to get the air time.

But basicaly the reason why you might get a non psycho Christian with thin skin is cause we are tired of having to field the questions from everyone who thinks the Uber Evangelicals are crazy cause some of us think they are crazy, but we aren't them.

Yep, I am pals with a few christians, and they are normal people (as oposed to me), as in: they don't expect me to become a warrior of god and they tend to call people who see themselves as warriors from god as a buch of money grabbing, belief abusing loonies.

Dennis, I do ask you to forgive me for the following statement, but I must say it.

WHAT, THE , FUCK!?

Ok, sorry, now that I have that out of my system, I can't understand what was going through jacks mind. Does the man think he has anything close to, or even approaching, the legal support or clout to pull something like this. His behaviour is about 1 step removed from a child in a play ground thowing a tantrum.

Jacks actions reflect horribly on the entire legal community and give good lawyers everywhere a bad name.

If I were a lawyer, i'd be ashamed that this man is a part of my profession

I'd bet that most lawyer, espesically in florida, fell that way.

@ HandofCrom:

I'll try to help out here a bit too. I for one don't necessarily think that our religion is any more under attack than other religions out there. The reason that some people probably think that (and it's reasonable from their point of view) is that there are several angry atheists who attack Christianity ad hominem over anything, generalizing a very diverse group of people with the mistakes of the past or of some of the more conservative groups. I think that ultimately what you're dealing with is such a diverse culture of Christianity that reacts differently depending on the group. And just to clarify, not all conservative Christian (read, fundamentalist) groups are bad. I'm sure there are many good ones. I, like you, apparently, have had bad experiences with some of the bad apples.

I'm speaking as a Christian who is choosing faith and ministry as a profession. My older sister, one of the greatest influences on me growing up, is an atheist. I'm not about to go over to her and ask her to repent and join my church or anything like that. I will, however, occasionally let her know she has an open invitation, as do anybody for my church (wherever that is. I'm still not sure where I belong yet). I have several friends who are agnostic or atheist. They respect where I'm coming from and I respect where they're coming from.

Unfortunately, there are cases of peer pressure where atheists will attack Christians on their beliefs and attempt to break them down. Christians do the same to atheists, I can guarantee that. I don't involve myself in such battles except to help build up the faith of believers. My denomination as an unspoken rule does not attack people of other faiths or belief structures, but instead calls them in to dialogue. We may not agree, but we'll talk and share ideas and hope to be enriched by the process, and that we are enriching the others in the discussion.

As for Christmas, I really don't give a damn about Christmas myself. It's an arbitrary date to celebrate the birth of Christ, when we have no idea when he was actually born. I personally choose to celebrate his birth through my life, not just in a once a year blowout. As it is, Christmas has been coopted from its original meeting by the extreme amount of commercialism that begins the moment we hit November 1st. Thanksgiving doesn't really exist in this culture except for a couple days of remembering that we have a really big meal to cook because it's overwhelmed by Christmas stuff. Is the "true meaning of Christmas" still hidden under all that? Sure, but it gives some of us Christians a sick stomach trying to sift through the holiday "bargains" to get to Christmas morning singing of the new hope of the world.

As far as taking the log out of our own eye, trust me. A lot of us are trying. We're committing to justice first, not to putting down others. Unfortunately, some groups and individuals think that their faith is another way of proving their superiority in the world rather than following Jesus' directive to serve one another.

@ Anonymous

Bah! I doubt they would've paid even if they did bring the Party V&. Not that they would given I'm a Kiwi.

"It’s almost impossible to get under Judge Jordan’s skin, but Jack Thompson has found out a way to do so — include graphic images of gay porn in his filings. This is no joke…"

If it's no joke, why do I find it hilarious.

Jack, your life is like a reality show without all the crying when people get send home, but with all the bitching and backstabbing. I'd rather see a documentary about you than watch the opening rounds of Idol.

First of all, I love that Jack argues that kids won't be looking for Gay Porn in the legal documents. Well, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. What I'm waiting for is some unsuspecting child to be looking through the system, doing his homework, when *click* GAY PORN! Courtesy of Mr. Jack Thompson.

I'll say it again. It's like juggling semi-automatics to teach gun safety.

And also on that note, I've rolled my eyes at a few of the analogies that have come up here, particularly the Lex Luthor/Kryptonite one. But when Jack compared himself to Flounder from Animal House... I mean, come on, Animal House? Seriously? A bad movie from the 80s?

Also, a quick google search informs me that Animal House has at least three actresses appearing topless in it. Funny that you cite a plot point from such an unclean film, Jack.

@jadedcritic

Maybe it's not; but it makes a damn good vent.

I apologize, I was a little too harsh in my statements. The most noticeable Christians are the annoying scum, like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Jack Thompson, but it is wrong to characterize everyone by their like (I doubt those folks even believe it, just use Jesus as a means to con people for personal benefit). Believe or don't believe in whatever flavor of bone-rattling you prefer, just make sure that you personally are virtuous. After all, none of it will matter once the robots rise up to replace us :)

And yes, I was referring to the US when I said "this country." I'm American, we frequently forget the rest of the world exists, I'm sure everyone knows that!

I've been a reader of GamePolitics for some time, so I've become very familiar with this man. To be honest, it's really gotten to a point where I no longer find him offensive, so much as a ludicrous blowhard.

Advertising your book and claiming to have received divine salvation in a legal document? I suppose I should be baffled, possibly angered, but humor was all I found.

@ HandofCrom

See? This is why I like decent people, because they are kind enough to give an apology if they make an acusatory(sp?) statement. But really when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter what culture your from or what religion you choose or what hobbies you pick up, we still choose the person we're going to be, both physically and personally. You can be a christian and still be a total asshole, like JT here, but that doesn't all christians are the same way. Likewise, you can be an athiest and still be an asshole, like Pandralisk, but that doesn't mean that there aren't good atheists out there. You choose your personality, your beliefs, and your hobbies, no one chooses it for you, so really, of you are going to blame something for this crap, don't blame religion or video games, blame the person himself for choosing to act that way.

The worm has turned in the gay porn filing matter, kiddies. I provided the proof to Dennis McCauley. He refuses to share it.

GP:  yep, you've got the proof, alright. Totally brilliant work there...

If any documents in the case meet GP's editorial standard for significance worthy of publication, you'll see them on the front page, as always.

@RaZor, mottom22, and GD86
Thanks. : )

@Handof Crom
Thanks for the apology. I never want to be grouped in with Robertson, Falwell, and Thompson. They're all a bunch of morons. Also, I don't care if people celebrate Christmas, I am pro-gay marriage, and my beliefs are very personal to me because a lot of them are based off of my own life experiences. Don't worry, I'm not going to try to convert you or anything. ; ) Finally, stereotypes are hard to change. There's plenty more of us out here, we just tend to not make the evening news.

Y'know, I love that every time Jack comes on here posting about how 'Dennis won't release so-and-so document/link because it makes me look great!', he never actually posts it himself. Because every time it gives Dennis a chance to post the document/link, which makes Dennis look good and Jack look like a fool.

Yet he never learns, he never posts the links himself, he always leaves himself open to look foolish. It's like he sets himself up for it.

@LightWarrior:

You mean "Because the videogame industry is marketing M rated games to children!" isn't a good enough alibi? (Outside of JT's ass-backwards perception of the world, that is.)

Every Jack Thompson story makes me wonder just a little bit more how it is that his wife ignores the fact that this man is out of his mind. I really hope that after his disbarment someone makes sure he receives the help that he obviously desperately needs.

Man, just read that letter to the adhoc committee. Pathetic, moronic, and completely full of selfish, conspiracy-theorist antics. Jack could actually write another book, filled with just court filings. I mean, it would be filed under the "humor" section of your favorite bookstore, but it would still be there.

He's like a Darwin Award nominee who is just trying to beat the record for "largest amount of idiotic actions before death."

The "backlash" to Christianity that surrounds many issues today is more about the "Culture Warriors" and less about the religion itself. These self-proclaimed "Warriors" are trying to re-create society, culture, science, art, etc. as they see fit, which is in-effect forcing their values (stemmed from faith) on EVERYONE.

While it is true that the vast majority of Christians aren't fighting this "Culture War", the few that are have been doing a good job at making the entire faith look bad.

I will be the first to agree that the anti-Culture Warriors should lay off lumping the entire faith in with these loonies. HOWEVER, Christians who do not like the backlash they are feeling perhaps should turn their ire to the Cultrue Warriors who are making the entire faith look bad.

@Josh Martz

They'll likely create that category just for him

@Mnementh2230

Jack Thomspon thinks that most people, like himself, have the first impression of what is "gay porn" is boy on boy kissing. Well at least "gay sex" his from what he sais was in the Bully game.

The .pdf isn't loading for me...could someone upload it elsewhere? I'd like to read this.

I was wondering, and if anyone has brought this up, forgive me, but if the court finds the pictures obscene, doesn't JT run the risk of prosecution for distributing obscene material?

Golden Yak Says:

"...he never learns..."

To be fair, that essentially describes John Bruce Thompson in a nutshell.

The National Gay News reported the event with this article http://nationalgaynews.com/content/view/1742/

and here's what Jack Thompson wrote in the comments of said article

"This article is false and defamatory and thus libelous and actionable. I look forward to proving just that in a court of law.

Jack Thompson, Attorney"

Oh and Jack, who claims a "victory" by writing "I have in fact accomplished what nobody else, it seems, had the fortitude to do. I got this obscenity off a Florida's lawyer website where is was really accessible, free of charge, to children" would probably like to know that the links the claims were removed because of his actons are back

Jack Thompson; the Paul Revere of the Gay Porn Industry.

"The Gays are coming, the Gays are coming!".

Jack Thompson will probably be found in contempt of court for this. Gay Porn in public documents is the same as public lewdness and violates most US state indecency acts.

At the very least, he'll lose his license barring official hearings into this issue. At the very most, he'll be put in the slammer on a minimum term due to a "past history" of this kind of action.

Wow, did anyone else think that Jack's explanation of the situation was a little stupid? I mean even for Jack it was pretty weak.

@Baggie

Yet in his world it's rock solid and completely un-contestable.

@ HandofCrom

Nice quote of Bluto from Animal House

@ Rich

Not only that, but one of the actresses in the movie, Martha Smith, is a Playboy Playmate(Miss July 1973).

i read that ngn article and i found this to be very creepy of thompson , stalking some radio guy - "Thompson was originally charged with stalking the host, a Broward Circuit Court judge entered a permanent injunction and restraining order against Thompson, protecting Rogers"

if thats not crazy i dont know what is

@ Johnny

What's funny is Jack's comment is the only comment posted.

Did anyone else notice that he did not do the usual CAPS LOCKZ TEH JACK THOMPSON thing? His name is all in lower case. I think his Ego deflated to roughly the size of Jupiter this time. He knows he is fucked... He is just to prout to admit it.

Jack Thompson, you know you went too far this time. We know you went too far. YOu lost, and this time you have only yourself to blame. You brought your downfall on yourself and you will get no sympathy from me.

Black people do smell like watermelons.

@Archgabe

Yeah I noticed that he doent capitalize the first letters in his name. Thats been bothering me too.

bet hes banged a couple of nigger chicks in his time.

Uh, Matteo, there's no need for that language.

Jack Thompson: "Why did it have to be me?"
God: "What in my name are you doing here?"

@ Archgabe

Dude, he never got ANY sympathy out of ANY of us. Cuz you know where in the dictionary you find it kekeke.

Yes, that is REALLY uncalled for.

Using that kind of language here somewhat justifies some of what he says about us. Sure we sometimes swear in disbelief. Lord knows I've often thought, "Jesus Christ, just what the hell is he thinking?!" and wrote it in my comments on occasion.

But what you said is a definite racial slur, and I don't care what color of your skin is, a racial slur is never okay to use. We could go on about whether it's okay to use it when referring to yourself if you feel that it refers to yourself, but the fact of the matter is that we don't know the color of your skin and therefore we can't tell if you're being down right insulting, or just using your common everyday lingo.

So just like Imperialist Agenda said, "there's no need for that language."

Now moving on to John Bruce "DUUUUUURRRRRRRR MY NAME IS JACKY!" Thompson.

The guy has no supporters.

Flat out, he has no one on his side. The people he cites quotes from, the "research" he claims in his rants and tirades, even the people that have issues with the video game industry have all DISTANCED THEMSELVES from him!

And with good cause! He may be sane, but he's as dumb as a pile of bricks. And I say that not just because of his blatant ignorance of video games, the culture behind it, the history of video games...

...hell he knows JACK SQUAT about games period!

But the fact that he lacks knowledge of the practice of LAW, his bread and butter, and is willing to have his license taken away for him because he feels that will make him a martyr...

...THAT is sheer stupidity.

He doesn't listen to his peers, he doesn't listen to people who have tried talking sense with him, and he doesn't even listen to people who actually have agreed with him. He is on the way to ruin, and is oblivious to the fact that we are pretty much the only people who acknowledge him and recognize him.

Sure we recognize him to be an absolute tool, but even so, that's as far as he gets.

Discrediting MULTIPLE blogs about LAW, BY LAWYERS, that are read NATIONALLY just because they say things about him is not just idiotic...

...it's INCOMPETENT!

He NEVER learns from his mistakes. He NEVER EVER gets the point that what he is doing is trying to do things that are unconstitutional.

I have to imagine what his wife and son think about his behavior? Is he even still married? What does he family think about his single-minded campaign? Do they agree with him, or think that he's chasing windmills?

We know now that he's sane. But is he smart enough to realize the error of his ways and cease this lunacy? Personally, I think he has about as much of a chance as a snowball does in Hell.

He refuses to listen to judges, he refuses to listen to other lawyers, he refuses to listen to people that try and counter-point his arguments, he refuses to listen to people that are actually kind of sympathetic to his cause.

He has isolated himself in a dream world that he whole-heartedly believes. And as long as he continues down this path, he will be sad, pitiful, and lonely man.

When he loses his law license, I expect his wife to leave him and take their son with her (if she hasn't left him already). I expect him to be jailed for trying to sue the Florida and even Federal legal in what will be deemed a frivolous case. I expect David Walsh, Mr. Greenberg, Leland Yee, and everyone that he thinks are his friends to go "Jack who?". I expect that Jack will fall to lowest depths of humanity, clutching only his faith that he thinks he was right.

So a message to Jack:

Are you truly willing to cut all ties from everyone, lose your job, and sacrifice your livelihood all for the sake of a one-man crusade against video games?

Because if you are, I feel sorry for you. I truly do.

And when you are gone, we will forget you. Many who have no sympathy for you whatsoever will celebrate your fall. They will cheer and party, and relish your utter humiliation and defeat. Others will just shrug their shoulders and go, "Oh well... sucks to be him", and walk away.

In the end, everyone will forget about you. Maybe occasionally going, "Hey remember that one crazy lawyer that was against games? What's his name again?"

"I dunno."

That will become all you were ever be.

You are digging your own grave John Bruce Thompson. Digging it with a steamshovel.
