GP can tell from the low comment counts registered by Second Life stories that not everyone is a fan of the overhyped MMO.
But, either way, be sure to check out this video as commentator Rachel Maddow skewers the abortive presidential hopes of Newt Gingrich, including some laughs from Newt's recent foray into Second Life.

...if you're the white cloud, there must be some damn pot in the room.
And, wtf? You bitch about his coverage, and then say you enjoy reading his coverage? If you enjoy it, then...why bitch at all about it? As far as I can see, instead of skipping the articles, if it bothers you so much, make your own site and ignore him there.
From what I've seen of the people that play it (and by seen, I mean "meet at the coffee shop for lunch"), the people who play Second Life are, by and large, not really interested in what goes on in the outside world. It's a very small percentage that turns into voters.
Still, extremely funny (and succinct) video.
And yeah, I can't say Second Life is worthy of too much interest. It's a fad for politicians, but really... does anyone care? A video I saw of a Second Life appearance showed maybe a dozen people in attendance, one of whom, if I recall correctly, appeared to be a giant penis. That's not exactly the height of relevance.
That's some pretty funny stuff on the video there. I have absolutely no interest in Second Life, and oddly, for something that gets so much media attention, I don't actually know anyone who does. It is funny to watch candidates and corporations spend so much time and effort on something so far out in left field, though.
Why?
Because it seems like the only place on the entire internet that seems to care about it.
I think candidates go there to prove that they're down with the internet generation, but aren't actually down with the internet generation enough to realize that invariably any public gathering in SL ends with some jerk showing up and trapping all of the attendees in self-replicating cages that are on fire or assaulting the speaker with flying penises (link sfw).

LOL
The reason why SL comes up fairly regularly here is that there is a lot of politics in it... and it's a game.... and this is GamePolitics.com
Seriously, I try not to hit it too hard, because, frankly, I really can tell that most readers aren't into it. But still, this is GP, so I have to keep it real. game+politics=coverage.
Truth is, there are a number of SL specialty sites out there, so we're just a bug on the windshield of the total SL coverage.
is it just me or does it seem everyone obsessed with second life doesn't take care of their first one?
"game+politics=coverage"
Then why the hell is Jackie allowed attention? He's only political to himself.
And why don't you just call yourself Dennis? We know who you are anyway..
*Climbs into trench*
Now I wait for a response..
No matter what any of us may think of him, the guy is like, completely immersed in the politics of gaming.
It would be impossible to credibly cover games/politics without covering what he is doing. And because he is so aggressive on the issue, it's important to track his apparent self-immolation as well.
Look at how he drags Kotaku and GamePolitics into his legal filings. You've no idea some of the things he has said about me personally in those court filings.
So, yeah, annoying he may be, as long as he is engaging in anti-game activism, we'll cover him.
1. Kotaku?
2. "as long as he is engaging in anti-game activism"
How long you got?
3. For the record, my name is BlackIce. Made up the KGB bit as a joke for Jackie's conspiracy. 'Tis on your last article about him somewhere.
4. Kotaku?
5. Is it really a good idea to pay attention to what he says about you at this stage? He's ready to jump on anything now, I would imagine.
6. Kotaku? Oh, and i'm done now.
Well, when he's saying horrible things about YOU, you can ignore him if you like.
Mind if I make my own choice in that regard? My reputation is extremely important to me.
Again, if you don't want to read about, skip those stories, click on another site, your choices are endless.
1. "Well, when he’s saying horrible things about YOU, you can ignore him if you like" I do. Sort of.
Does throwing darts at a picture of Hitler count?
2. Mind if I make my own choice in that regard? My reputation is extremely important to me.
You already did, but, feel free. FYI, Your rep is one of the best on the net. GAMESTM Magazine agrees too. You are mentioned every other issue FACT.
3. "Again, if you don’t want to read about, skip those stories, click on another site, your choices are endless."
Tried. This is still the best one. He's banned from most of the ones I know. Sorry, but I don't do gameTwat.
Thank you for your time. Expect a cookie in the next dream you have, but don't ask for one after that.
The white cloud that is always there. That's me.
Who said the Newt Gingrich matters?
the guy in that video thinks so.
The question is not why does Dennis cover what I do? The question is: Why does anyone read what he covers since he covers only one side of what is going on.
GP: While I don't find that news especially favorable to you (merely a patient judge giving you more rope with which to hang yourself) I did mention the stay as an update to the original story in which we reported that he was sending you directly - do not pass Go, do not collect $200 - to the disciplinary committee.
If you were looking for an entire story on that little piece of news, you can stop looking now.
If your name is BlackIce, maybe you should consider posting as such and not fill the name field with worthless Jack Thompson references.
Andrew Eisen
instead of watching the vid and constantly thinking, "is this a dude or a chick?" until you get to the end and see her name is Rachel. and miss all she says.
I'm chewing over screen names. Don't rush me.
@Nekowolf
Yes, there is always pot somewhere in a dream. Provided said dreamer is past adolescence.
And me bitching about news coverage.. Nothing new really. I do enjoy politics (kinda sad really..), but I also enjoy bitching about it.
So, I try to do both.
Never thought i'd say it, but you're getting very, very boring.
Dennis doesn't have to make a full page article every time you have a bowel movement, and he much less has to say it smells like bakery fresh cinnamon roles.
Get a damn life you loser,
"I did mention the stay as an update to the original story..."
It might be nice if you marked the original story to more clearly show the update... I think that you are correct in that this is not worth a whole new post, but for what it's worth I didn't realize that the original story had been updated until you mentioned it here. Prefacing the new parts with a bold "UPDATE:" would make them a lot easier to pick out.

It's sad both that you had trouble identifying her gender, especially given that her name was in the story and it's the first thing she says in the video, and because it's irrelevant.
@ KGB
So it's not BlackIce?
