Is Manhunt 2 Out a Day Early?

October 30, 2007
Much has been made of Manhunt 2's Halloween release date, but GamePolitics has just received a press release from publisher Take Two Interactive indicating the game will be available today.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser is quoted:
Manhunt 2 has gone through much to reach this day. We are very excited that fans will finally get a chance to experience the magnificent horror experience we've crafted with Manhunt 2.

The press release calls the controversial game:
...a dark and disturbing psychological story revolving around the sinister events of a secretive research project called The Pickman Project.

Plunging into the depths of human psychosis, terror and paranoia, the twisted plot and brutal gameplay conspire to create the most atmospheric gaming experience ever...

As someone else said, games usually are released on Tuesdays and it makes almost just as much sense as far as the horror thing goes since Halloween is just tomorrow.

to be honest i wouldn't be surprised, while Halloween sounds like a nice date, it's an odd release date for video games/DVD due to the fact that it's a Wednesday and for the most part games/DVDs are released on tuesdays

@tony selby

Not to mention people are likely to be busy that night.

Rockstar wins again.

Uh oh! Take Two better watch out. When Jack Thompson catches wind of this, he will bring the smack down on them for not only selling this game to minors but also selling it to them a day earlier than they promised.

Better watch out. Jack Thompson is on patrol.

@EZ
"you better watch out..."
i wonder if Jack will be out on halloween, knocking on game developers doors saying something like "Stop or sue?"
as getting anyone to stop making a game would be tricky, and sueing someone is always a treat to watch :)

I'm gonna guess as to his response:

"I, Jack Thompson, the best attorney in the world, can now prove that, as a direct result of Manhunt 2 being released a day early, that minors have, and will start killing people, and all kinds of nastiness! This is all proof that Take Two, in conjunction with the Florida Bar are trying to threaten me personally!"

That's a doubtful likely response, but, you never know these days...

Yeah, according to the Best Buy ad they will have the game in "By 2 PM Tuesday", so the Halloween release is pretty much PR hogwash...

I think this is a great move. The Halloween headfake misdirects the critics, and they slip out a day early to sidestep the protests of bad parents and meddling activists.

1st Amendment FTW!

Damn! This is almost as bad as when Halo 3 moved its release date to September 25 from October 25 to evade the critics!

Seriously, though, the games industry really needs a solid street day of the week- like music CDs and DVDs. These "ship dates" suck.

Most games are released on Tuesdays or Thursdays anyway.

[...] In other news, Gamepolitics reported this morning about the possibility of “Manhunt 2″ actually being released today. I wouldn’t be surprised, but that will require some investigation on my own part. It’s normal for games to be released on Tuesday (and everybody, including me, is going to be busy tomorrow), but come on, blood and gore go with Halloween like a knife through a turkey. [...]

You talked about our little pest when the article wasn't about him. You lose One Million points of credibility - Turn in your penis.

(I'm betting that I get the " Your comment is awaiting Moderation" Message)

^^See what I mean?

hAY DOES ANYONE THINK JACK PULLED HIS SON FROM SCHOOL TO DO ANOTHER STING ON BEST BUYS

@mary

See that key between shift and tab? press it, and then rip the key off.

I don't think Dennis likes me using that word..

@ BlackIce

In my defense, it is related to him. If you were following the other stories about Manhunt and Rockstar, you will have seen the open letters JT posted about the release of Manhunt 2.

So I am merely observing that Take Two's position in this debate is getting even more precarious in JT's eyes.

So I keep my penis and you can have the points (after all points are worthless in today's gaming culture)

@ BlackIce

It is the content filter. It flags certain words and Dennis approves the post. If the post is from someone who Dennis recognizes, it never stays spammed very long.

Dennis knows me then.

Uh-oh..

Hm, do you notice that the one Manhunt thread that Jack did not post on was the one that said the game is out? Yeah, because that would mean admitting he failed, again.

It's out right now in stores if anyone really wants to go get it.

Just how dark is the game anyway? Is it as dark (or darker) than twisted metal black? And is the story at least half as good? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, than i will get the game as soon as I can. If not then the violence will be enough to attract me to get the game anyway (but i sitll want an answer to those questions).

I saw a report on NBC that this game is bad since the Wii version "makes you act out the violence".

I wonder if the same rule can be applied to baseball or golf, or maybe any quick motion of an appendage could be deemed as violent. I should duct tape my arms to my sides just in case, I dont want to offend anyone.

ZenI felt Brutal Legends was a funny & beautiful look at the world of rock from Double Fines point of view. The only parts I wasn't hot for were the RTS bits as it felt forced. Otherwise fantastic.02/12/2012 - 1:34pm
DorthLousPassed 1.5M$. And I'd also say that Brutal Legend is far from being a bad game. I just think it was a few levels under what people expected from the people working on the project.02/11/2012 - 8:25am
TechnogeekBrutal Legend wasn't bad so much as "marketing had no idea how the game actually played", causing it to suffer accordingly.02/10/2012 - 10:38pm
