Library of Congress Classification System Game - Will Fox News Find Fault?

January 29, 2008 -
Within Range?

Sounds like a great title for a first-person shooter.

Not quite. The edu-game, created by students at Carnegie-Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center, is designed to teach players how the Library of Congress classification system works. And even Fox News can't whine about that.

Probably...

Check it out.

This game's great. Gonna have to pass it around to my coworkers at my library. Thanks Dennis!

Awwwwwwwww... Let's the leave the gal alone, she did take back what she said about Mass Effect. xD

But beware, a Florida attorney is not gonna like this game I think. :P

Come on now, she apologized and retracted her statements. It's not like she's Jack Thompson or Kevin McCullough.

Worst...game...ever.

(This one got greenlighted on Fark.com a week or so ago.)

Not bad for a younger audience just learning about the system.

Not to mention that, in a sense, it teaches about two dimensional arrays as well.

I like the idea. It is much better than a pamphlet that may or may not help you understand.

We need a dewey decimal game now.

I interned at a library. Basically, my entire internship consisted of checking to see if books were in the right place, as well as putting them back into place.

... Towards the end of it, I just stopped caring. I'd put them back into the right place, but when it came time to scan the shelves my eyes would glaze over and I would go through the motions, without even SEEING the labels. Once I got between two shelves, I'd find an interesting book and read. The Biography section was the worst, no shelves opposite each other, I couldn't read.

Nice change in the article, GP

I almost didn't notice. ;)

yes, I too am beginning to feel sorry for Ms. Lawrence, so I've revised the headline to reflect where the blame should truly reside.

And you thought I had no heart...

;-)

I LOVE FOX NEWS!

I wonder if they could teach me how my University library sorts out its collection of books. For one paper I was researching, I found one book that was a hardcover version of another book I had found, and each was catalogued in completely separate isles.

For a moment I thought this would be about an LoC type of system to classify video games.

GP, I get it, you don't like Fox News, but what do they have to do with this game, if you can call it that? I understand the need to vent, but this is getting ridiculous.

This is a porn finder trainer...

It trains our poor innocent children how to find books of adult nature in a library!!!!

This is the worst most explicit game I have ever seen!!!

We must Ban it!!!
/sarcasm end

At this point I think a rant like this by 'experts' is not out of the question...

OMG! Porn is in the coding that can only be unlocked by adding coding that was deleted by the creators!
/end sarcasm

Lets beat them to the punch of blatant lies.

Neo_DrKefkaThat is correct in an At-Will state you or the employer can part ways at any time. However Florida also has laws on the books about "Wrongful combinations against workers" http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/448.04510/20/2014 - 10:07am
james_fudgehe'd die if he couldn't talk about Wii U :)10/20/2014 - 9:16am
Michael ChandraBy the way, I am not saying Andrew should stop talking about Wii-U. I find it quite nice. :)10/20/2014 - 8:53am
Michael Chandra'How dare he ignore my wishes and my advice! I am his boss! I could have ordered him but I should be able to say it's advice rather than ordering him directly!'10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP goes "EZK, do not talk about X publicly for a week, we're preparing a big article on it" and he still tweets about X, they'd have a legitimate reason to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP tells Andrew "we'd kinda prefer it if you stopped talking about Wii-U for 1 week" and he'd tweet about it anyway, firing him for it would be idiotic.10/20/2014 - 8:51am
Michael ChandraLegal right, sure. But that doesn't make it any less pathetic of an excuse.10/20/2014 - 8:50am

quiknkoldIt says in the article that being in florida, you can get fired regardless if its a fireable offence10/20/2014 - 7:19am
Michael ChandraIf your employee respectfully disagrees with your advice, that's not a fireable offense. If they ignore your order, THEN you have the right to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 6:49am
Michael ChandraI... Don't get one thing. If you do not want your employee to do X, why do you tell them it's advice or a wish? Give them a damn order.10/20/2014 - 6:48am
james_fudgeA leak that had me worried about being swatted by Lizard Squad.10/20/2014 - 6:03am
james_fudgeIt should be noted that the author leaked the GJP group names online10/20/2014 - 6:03am
MechaTama31I mean, of the groups being bullied here, which of the two would you refer to collectively as "nerds"?10/19/2014 - 11:30pm
MechaTama31But that's the thing, it doesn't sound to me like he is advocating bullying, it sounds like he is accusing the SJWs of bullying the "nerds", who I can only assume refers to the GGers.10/19/2014 - 11:21pm
Andrew EisenInteresting read. Unfortunately, too vague to form an opinion on but at least now I know what faefrost was talking about in James' editorial.10/19/2014 - 10:39pm
