Eco-Creatures: Environmental Awareness Comes to Nintendo DS

February 1, 2008 -
Seattle's KING-5 has a report on Majesco's upcoming real-time strategy game Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest for the Nintendo DS:
Majesco Entertainment says Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest is the only one of its kind to promote awareness of the perils of "…over-industrialization, deforestation, pollution, extinction and global warming."

With proper care, the creatures can evolve to learn new abilities that help complete the game’s more than 40 environmental missions.

GameSpot has more:
As the name implies, Eco-Creatures is an awfully green game... It's very environmentally friendly... The graphical style may be awfully cutesy, but it looks like there's quite a bit of depth and complexity to the gameplay, so older, tactically minded DS owners may want to give it a look as well.

Eco-Creatures launches on March 4th.

This may sound strange, but I'm waiting for two well entrenched series to start picking up on 'green' issues. A) Harvest Moon - It's nearly there as it is, but you know one day the environment is gonna become a huge issue in the game or game's plot. B) Age of Empires (or related) - Ever since playing the original I always thought it was ironic that I'm living in the age of global warming while playing a game where whomever can destroy forests faster has an advantage.

Ya know, what would be really cool to add to the Nintendo line would be updated versions of games like SimEarth, SimLife, SimFarm, and a few other similar games. I think SimCity is coming to the Wii, isn't it? But updated versions of these others would be cool too.

@ Nitherean

It's on the DS. DVDs have nothing to do with it. It is stored on silicone based circuitry that poisons the environment.

Eco-Creatures = The tree hugger's version of Pokemon

"As the name implies, Eco-Creatures is an awfully green game… It’s very environmentally friendly…"

Unfornuately, the fuel that must be spent to to ship the games, and for the end user to purchase it (since we dont all have Game Stores within walking distance). The plastic boxes they come in, will degrade by nature in about 10K years. An those nice DVDs have to be made with chemicals that are just plain toxic to the enviroment.

No no no....the message isnt coming out the wrong way or anything....

Sounds like a cuter version of a captain planet episode... I want it.

whether the manufacture of the game is green or not, the message is, and thats a good step forwards.

Wasn't there a game like that but your a robot and you build a park and take care of it?

Is the game itself environmentally friendly? Manual/box/packing made of chlorine-free 100% recycled post-consumer materials? Lead-free solder? Recyclable plastic? etc?

@nightwng2000:

You basically just said Spore.

Spore is going to be like an updated verson of all those games Spore will be providing simulated Eco-System problems such as you can test the run away effects of greenhouse gases on a planet....Pump it with several kinds of gases. You can eather over heat the planet and turn it into a molten waste land or add gases that can cause the wrong effects such as a run away ice age.

if I could actually find a DS for sale, i'd rather get The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

@Nitherean

Last I checked there's no way to send a message without "polluting" the environment.

BTW you polluted while you browsed, wrote, and posted your message. Even more ironic.

@ All

As for the game it does seem to be another Captain Planet type environmental awareness push as we had back in the early 1990s. Seems harmless enough and it might even be a good game.

@King of Fiji:
Chibi Robo, Park Patrol is the game you're thinking of.

Goddamn I hate this eco bullshit.

@Austin Lewis

Agreed. You know anyone who can do a spin-off where we burn the damned forest and it's wildlife?

@BlackIce, Dragunov Marksman

Rather than burning the forests (I don't hate or even dislike nature), I think there should be a game where we get to burn the damn greentarded hippies that promote global whining.

@Bill

You get the Brownie for today's best idea.

@Bill
I want to burn some hippies. I think that would be epically hilarious.

And as a boss, we could toast Al Gore. After all, he's the one who popularized this to the idiotic masses here in America and then got the Nobel Bullshit Prize (Formerly Nobel Prize, but then it became a political tool).

Hooray for someone to hate! Honestly, you guys, if you have some argument, please put it forward; otherwise you're just like those people who hate video games and everyone who plays them - mindless, childish demagogues whose only virtue is their endless capacity for anger.

Really, it astounds me how much bile gets thrown around on this site, and from people who know what it's like to be hated on for no reason, too.

Andrew EisenMichael Chandra - Unless I overlooked it, we haven't seen how the directive to not talk about whatever he wasn't supposed to talk about was phrased so it’s hard to say if it could have been misconstrued as a suggestion or not.10/20/2014 - 12:35pm
Andrew EisenHey, the second to last link is the relevant one! He actually did say "let them suffer." Although, he didn't say it to the other person he was bickering with.10/20/2014 - 12:29pm

Neo_DrKefkaThat is correct in an At-Will state you or the employer can part ways at any time. However Florida also has laws on the books about "Wrongful combinations against workers" http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/448.04510/20/2014 - 10:07am
james_fudgehe'd die if he couldn't talk about Wii U :)10/20/2014 - 9:16am
Michael ChandraBy the way, I am not saying Andrew should stop talking about Wii-U. I find it quite nice. :)10/20/2014 - 8:53am
Michael Chandra'How dare he ignore my wishes and my advice! I am his boss! I could have ordered him but I should be able to say it's advice rather than ordering him directly!'10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP goes "EZK, do not talk about X publicly for a week, we're preparing a big article on it" and he still tweets about X, they'd have a legitimate reason to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP tells Andrew "we'd kinda prefer it if you stopped talking about Wii-U for 1 week" and he'd tweet about it anyway, firing him for it would be idiotic.10/20/2014 - 8:51am
Michael ChandraLegal right, sure. But that doesn't make it any less pathetic of an excuse.10/20/2014 - 8:50am

quiknkoldIt says in the article that being in florida, you can get fired regardless if its a fireable offence10/20/2014 - 7:19am
Michael ChandraIf your employee respectfully disagrees with your advice, that's not a fireable offense. If they ignore your order, THEN you have the right to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 6:49am
Michael ChandraI... Don't get one thing. If you do not want your employee to do X, why do you tell them it's advice or a wish? Give them a damn order.10/20/2014 - 6:48am
