New Game Tracks Plight of Immigrants in U.S.

February 18, 2008 -
A newly-launched video game hopes to raise awareness about one of today's hot-button political issues - immigration.

The much anticipated ICED (I Can End Deportation) is available as a free download for PC and Mac from international human rights organization Breakthrough. A press release details the game and the purpose behind its creation:
Designed to spark dialogue and create awareness of unfair U.S. immigration policies, ICED... teaches players about current immigration laws on detention and deportation...

Players can choose one of five characters to inhabit and live out the day-to-day life of an immigrant youth. The youth are being chased by immigration officers, while making moral decisions and answering myth and fact questions about current immigration policies...

Breakthrough Executive Director Mallika Dutt described the creation of ICED, which is designed primarily for high school and college students:
It's important to engage young people in social issues... Games for change help people to better relate to an issue because they can put themselves into the shoes of a character experiencing injustice.

Close to two million people have been deported and thousands more affected -- many without just cause -- due to unfair immigration policies. When we let the government deny due process and human rights for some people, we're putting all of our freedoms at risk.

As part of its launch day happening, ICED will be featured on Global Kids Island in Teen Second Life at 8:30 PM EST.

Hey I had to get it out somehow. Its ridiculous why would someone make a game where someones brainwashing kids that Illegal immigration is ok. Its against the law and its ruining our borders, language and culture. I'm all for Immigrants wanting a new life here but they got to learn our language and culture B4 becoming citizens it takes awhile but its worth it. Not sneaking over here and draining our economy and shoving their language and culture down our throats because they don't want to speak english.

@Tony

Having a problem with illegal immigrants is fine. Being a racist asshole and using the term spick is NOT. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. It is NOT something to try and justify your racism.

"I’m all for Immigrants wanting a new life here but they got to learn our language and culture B4 becoming citizens it takes awhile but its worth it."

Why should they learn our language if you have not?

Erik screw you pal. Illegal Immigration is against the law. Look around man all you see anymore is mexicans a majority are illegals they're ruining america. You ask a regular immigrant about this, they'll say its ridiculous and gives them a bad name. I ain't racist, sure I used spick thats because I'm fed up with this BS illegals are doing to our nation. Our language, borders, and culture are in danger or can't you see that Eric. Games like this should'nt be made. It brainwashes and divides gamers.

If there's anyone I offended I apologize. I'm just fed up of illegals ruining our country. You see as I said games like this should never be made its dividing us gamers. And its liberal hogwash thats totally left wing and and shows the wrong message.

Well, if the illegals are "ruining our country", how are they ruining it then?
Bearing in mind that the US has the strongest economy in the world by far.

"Erik screw you pal. Illegal Immigration is against the law. Look around man all you see anymore is mexicans a majority are illegals they’re ruining america."

I see your reading skills are on par with your writing skills unfortunately. If you read up you will see that I think that 2 million illegal immigrants being deported is a very low number unfortunately. You see I'm against illegal immigration as well, be they from Mexico, Canada or any other country.

Also, there is no call for the racist term you used. Furthermore its against the site's policy. Saying "well I'm frustrated with them" doesn't justify what you said nor make you any less of a racist.

There are those who "agree" with me such as yourselves who are poison to our cause as they discredit our own argument by making those who are against illegal immigration to seem motivated by racism rather than caring about the troubles illegal immigration brings.

If an illegal is so much arrested for littering they should be deported within 24 hours.

Finally your insult against liberalism is funny to me. I loathe illegal immigration and yet, I'm a liberal. Run that through your cranium.

Erik I checked your old posts you are indeed against illegals I give you that. The Liberals i'm talking about is the left wing liberals ruining the US not open minded people like yourself I presume. One thing to clarify I ain't racist though I did use a slur. A good friend of mine is black and I got some mexican american friends who are bilingual. Does a racist watch anime, enjoy asian culture, and want to learn japanese. I think not. Just to clarify a few things.

Anyway the reason why illegals are ruining america is A. Sending most of their money to mexico instead of using it for the u.s. economy. B.Them getting jobs and them being illegal makes americas unemployment skyrocket. C. The english language is in danger of being a minority language look all around you everything is bilingual pretty soon it'll be mexican first than english last. D. Govt. handouts I.E. Taxpayers money being spent paying for illegal "benefits". Its mexico's bad govt's fault its like this.

"One thing to clarify I ain’t racist though I did use a slur. A good friend of mine is black and I got some mexican american friends who are bilingual. Does a racist watch anime, enjoy asian culture, and want to learn japanese. I think not."

some of the opinions made me laugh, well apparently some of you smart ass americans need to play this "stupid game" because you don't know nothing about immigration. You can stay in America 20 or 50 years legally if you want and if you don't get a green card from the silly ass lottery, which is one in a thousand chance after waiting for 5 to 8 years, you will never even have the opportunity to wait 7 years for a citizenship, retards.

quiknkoldIt says in the article that being in florida, you can get fired regardless if its a fireable offence10/20/2014 - 7:19am
Michael ChandraIf your employee respectfully disagrees with your advice, that's not a fireable offense. If they ignore your order, THEN you have the right to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 6:49am
Michael ChandraI... Don't get one thing. If you do not want your employee to do X, why do you tell them it's advice or a wish? Give them a damn order.10/20/2014 - 6:48am
james_fudgeA leak that had me worried about being swatted by Lizard Squad.10/20/2014 - 6:03am
james_fudgeIt should be noted that the author leaked the GJP group names online10/20/2014 - 6:03am
MechaTama31I mean, of the groups being bullied here, which of the two would you refer to collectively as "nerds"?10/19/2014 - 11:30pm
MechaTama31But that's the thing, it doesn't sound to me like he is advocating bullying, it sounds like he is accusing the SJWs of bullying the "nerds", who I can only assume refers to the GGers.10/19/2014 - 11:21pm
Andrew EisenInteresting read. Unfortunately, too vague to form an opinion on but at least now I know what faefrost was talking about in James' editorial.10/19/2014 - 10:39pm

Neo_DrKefkaOnly good thing I seen come out of the Biddle incident was the fact a professional fighter offered to give 10k to an anti bullying charity for a round in the ring with Biddle.10/19/2014 - 7:49pm
Neo_DrKefkaEven after all the interviews she is still on twitter making fun of people with disabilities (Autism) yet she is a part of the crowd that is on the so called right side of history...10/19/2014 - 7:48pm
Neo_DrKefkaWhich #GameGate supports are constantly being harassed and bullied. Brianna Wu who I told everyone she was trolling GamerGate weeks ago with her passive aggressive threats was looking for that crazy person in the crowd.10/19/2014 - 7:47pm
Neo_DrKefkaI believe the problem #GamerGate has with Sam Biddle is he is apart of this blogging group that in a way hates or detests its readers. Also being apart of the crowd that claims its on the right side of history isn't helping when he is advocating bullying10/19/2014 - 7:45pm
MechaTama31Of course, I'm looking at these tweets in isolation, I don't know a thing about the guy.10/19/2014 - 7:06pm
MechaTama31If anything, the sarcastic implication seems to be that the SJW crowd is bringing back the bullying of nerds. But it's the GGers who are out for his blood? I'm lost...10/19/2014 - 7:01pm
MechaTama31I don't really get this Sam Biddle thing. The reaction to his tweets seems to be taking them at face value, but... they're tongue in cheek. Right?10/19/2014 - 7:00pm
Andrew EisenI have it. The problem, so far as I can tell, is neither of them allow me to overlay my webcam feed or text links to my Extra-Life fundraising page.10/19/2014 - 4:08pm
