Grand Theft Auto Critic Spitzer Resigns in Disgrace

March 12, 2008 -

Client 9 has become Disgraced ex-Governor 1.

Eliot Spitzer, the moral crusader who, as GamePolitics reported, was so offended by the interactive prostitution in Grand Theft Auto, has vacated his office following revelations by the New York Times that he was a regular patron of high-priced call girls.

Here's what Spitzer, a rising star in the Democratic party, had to say about GTA during his 2006 election campaign:

Media content has gotten more graphic, more violent and more sex-based… Currently, nothing under New York State law prohibits a fourteen-year old from walking into a video store and buying… a game like ‘Grand Theft Auto,’ which rewards a player for stealing cars and beating people up. Children can even simulate having sex with a prostitute…

FBI wiretaps captured him singing a different tune to the managers of the Emporers Club VIP service. Spitzer haggled over payment details as he arranged for a petite brunette named Kristen to rendezvous with him at a Washington, D.C. hotel. Later, Kristen and the escort service manager were overhead discussing Spitzer's proclivities:

Manager: [Spitzer] would ask you to do things, that, like you might not think were safe. You know - I mean that - very basic things...

Kristen: I have a way of dealing with that. I'd be like, 'listen, dude, do you really want the sex?"

And, apparently, Spitzer did. We wonder whether he'll be picking up a copy of GTA IV now that he will have plenty of time on his hands...

UPDATE: The NY Times has identified Kristen as 22-year-old Ashley Alexandra Dupre (left), a struggling, would-be singer. You can check out her MySpace page. We're willing to bet that this will be a boost to her career. Expect to see her on Larry King within a few days.

The next revelation will likely be the release of the audio tapes of the Guv's, uh, dickering about the arrangements.

sidenote: i'm sick of politicians who fuck up dragging their wives onstage to have to stand there. be a goddamn man and stand alone for your crimes.

@Tammej

"Why was this guy wiretapped in the first place?
Doesn’t that go against his rights? Was this approved somewhere?"

Yes the wiretap was judicially approved. The story goes is that Spitzer performed some shady bank transactions to pay for his trysts which had an appearance of money laundering. By federal law the bank had to inform the IRS of the suspicious transactions, investigation by the IRS led the IRS to inform the FBI, FBI investigated, found cause to warrant a wiretap, received judicial permission for the wiretap, and went from there. So it was all because of suspicious banking transactions.

"And is having sex with a prostetute (his private buisness) a real problem at all? Okay, I’m not sure but IF prostitution itself is already illegal in … whereever he did that."

While prostitution is illegal this becomes a larger issue because Spitzer's entire public image relied upon himself presenting a higher moral code than the rest and that his position as current head of the executive branch of New York government and former Attorney General for the state left him in a position with responsibility to persecute illegal activity, such as a prostitution ring (which he has in the past.) Erego he had a severe lapse of judgement which not only left him involved in an illegal activity while having a responsibility to uphold the law, but entirely undermined his entire political career as well. And for all practical purposes this incident with Spitzer is the icing on the cake of his camp utilizing underhanded methods to spy on a political adversary, the deadlock in state government due to Spitzer being at odds certain other individuals in state government, and his downright refusal to listen to public opinion when the public was steadfastly against his driver's license for illegal immigrants idea.

Woke up this morning to hear a local morning talk show talk about the womans music, apprently shes REALLY bad. I haven't had the chance to check her myspace yet.

So this morning I had an interesting surprise. As I turned the corner on 25th St., I had to walk past a gauntlet of news vans, cameras, reporters, and crowded bystanders to get to my office. I heard Spitzer's name mentioned a couple times, but wasn't sure why exactly they were here, at my office.

Apparently, Kristen lives in the building next to my office O.o

Sort of makes you wonder what happens to her now. This isn't necessarily the best way to end up in the spotlight.

@ lumi

End up on camera?

@ Ebonheart

Heh, I don't know. I was reading as I was walking, and other people were passing through the area, so I actually walked by one of the cameras before I even realized they were there.

@ lumi

I can see them doing a hatchet job on you.

@ Soldatlouis,

I have to back that opinion. And you know about that president dying like that? Awesome. Do you know the story of the one who fell of a train?

@ Ebonheart

Heh. Caught on camera reading a book! And after building my career and reputation on a campaign of persecuting the literate! =)

And the hypocrisy heats up.

"It’s a shame douchebaggery isn’t a crime punishable by law."

Patronizing a prostitute is. Too bad his money and position will keep him from suffering any "real" punishment.

@ Nightwng

Nice find, didn't know about the $1 million for harassment

"Thompson is seeking $1 million from the Bar for damages he says have resulted from the Bar harassing him by investigating what he says are baseless complaints filed against him by disgruntled adversaries."

That's right Bruce, you didn't send the bar gay porn, or the "Law Picture Book", or the "figurative wording" of the Florida Bar looking like a bombed out building. Oh reminds me I sent the Florida Bar Disiplanary Review head an email asking why they took so long to do something about him THey sent an email back. And yes I did not use insulting or explitives.

Mr. Walter,

The 1st Amendment is a cherished right of all freedom loving Americans and even if some of us don't agree with another's viewpoint, they are still entitled to speak their mind. However, although the 1st Amend provides a great amount of protection there are certain limits. We are now prosecuting Mr. Thompson because we believe his tactics and comments have crossed the line.

@nightwng2000:

Finally. A media outlet that didn't just run with the AP wire story (which makes no mention of the fact that Jack faces his own difficulties with the Florida Bar) but actually did some homework of its own. Kudos to the North County Gazette for showing the WSJ and all the other AP wire echoes what journalists really do.

wow, that is so funny. I guess he could not restrain his addictions for sex in office. What an ******* to use the phone to call for a prostitute to bang at work. He shot himself in the foot after all the shit he has been talking especially against GTA. Sounds like that case where like a congressman solicited sex with a government agent in the bathroom. Hypocrits in the government are as numerous as the amount of shit conjured by the news.

LOL

very most powefull hypocrisy

I wreck that chick!!!

Hypocracy + Politician = Hypocratician?

@Ebonheart

Maybe the fact that her music sucks was a contributing factor. Spitzer may have reallised that there's one sure way to stop her singing and thats to put something in her mouth to gag her. The fact that he was willing to not only use something very personal to him to gag her but also pay doing it impresses me greatly, the man's a damned hero!

Spitzer with egg on his face. This would've been hilarious, if it wasn't so pathetic or hypocritical. Ah what the hell, I'm gonna laugh at it anyway! hahahaha

The only thing that comes close to Spitzer's hypocrisy is the dirtiness of the whore who [unwittingly] helped take him down.

I'd thank her, but, she's a whore. Sluts are cool, whores aren't.

Did I mention she's a whore? :)

@ Aliasalpha

Alias, that's the best... words can't discribe it. That's even better than Bill Clintons dispute of the word "is"

I don't think one can say anything positive about the girl because she just seems to be trying to CHA on this and will probably do it again soon. Lets avoid using derogotory terms like slut, whole or bitch as while they apply, as better words could be used to describe her.

[...] The newsmedia seems keen on overlooking the fact that New York’s Gubernatorial Pimp was once one of their lovechildren in the war on video games. They plastered him and his comments everywhere denouncing violence and obscenity in video games, most especially the prostitution in the Grand Theft Auto games. Maybe he’s just a stickler for details and was angry that the video-gamey whoring wasn’t true to his personal experiences. [...]

[...] I could go on forever about this shit, but I’m going to wrap things up here. I’d like to say that I think it’s great to see prominent figures like Stephen King speak out about things like this. Unless you bring the idiocy of these kinds of things to the forefront, states like: Massachusetts, Arizona, Louisiana, Minnesota, New York, Utah, Kansas and California, are just going to slip them into law without true opposition. And since no one really takes the gaming community seriously, it’s even better to have a non-gamer speak up and say “Hey - I think this is bullshit too”. [...]

MechaTama31I mean, of the groups being bullied here, which of the two would you refer to collectively as "nerds"?10/19/2014 - 11:30pm
MechaTama31But that's the thing, it doesn't sound to me like he is advocating bullying, it sounds like he is accusing the SJWs of bullying the "nerds", who I can only assume refers to the GGers.10/19/2014 - 11:21pm
Andrew EisenInteresting read. Unfortunately, too vague to form an opinion on but at least now I know what faefrost was talking about in James' editorial.10/19/2014 - 10:39pm

Neo_DrKefkaOnly good thing I seen come out of the Biddle incident was the fact a professional fighter offered to give 10k to an anti bullying charity for a round in the ring with Biddle.10/19/2014 - 7:49pm
Neo_DrKefkaEven after all the interviews she is still on twitter making fun of people with disabilities (Autism) yet she is a part of the crowd that is on the so called right side of history...10/19/2014 - 7:48pm
Neo_DrKefkaWhich #GameGate supports are constantly being harassed and bullied. Brianna Wu who I told everyone she was trolling GamerGate weeks ago with her passive aggressive threats was looking for that crazy person in the crowd.10/19/2014 - 7:47pm
Neo_DrKefkaI believe the problem #GamerGate has with Sam Biddle is he is apart of this blogging group that in a way hates or detests its readers. Also being apart of the crowd that claims its on the right side of history isn't helping when he is advocating bullying10/19/2014 - 7:45pm
MechaTama31Of course, I'm looking at these tweets in isolation, I don't know a thing about the guy.10/19/2014 - 7:06pm
MechaTama31If anything, the sarcastic implication seems to be that the SJW crowd is bringing back the bullying of nerds. But it's the GGers who are out for his blood? I'm lost...10/19/2014 - 7:01pm
MechaTama31I don't really get this Sam Biddle thing. The reaction to his tweets seems to be taking them at face value, but... they're tongue in cheek. Right?10/19/2014 - 7:00pm
Andrew EisenI have it. The problem, so far as I can tell, is neither of them allow me to overlay my webcam feed or text links to my Extra-Life fundraising page.10/19/2014 - 4:08pm
