Screenshots Released for CrimeCraft MMO

April 14, 2008
Looking very much like a massively multiplayer Grand Theft Auto clone, Vogster's CrimeCraft has been slated for release in early 2009.

While the official website offers little aside from a logo, some screenshots have been released. Also, there's the CrimeCraft Wikipedia entry.

With what will likely be thousands of players engaged in live, online GTA-like action, expect CrimeCraft to be controversial when it launches.

I agree, you can't say CrimeCraft sucks until you have played it. I'm looking forward to it.

Jock Thompson isn't just after Rockstar and Take Two. I heard he went after Bioshock and Halo 3.

I meant Jack Thompson

It's not made by Take Two / Rockstar Games. There will be no controversy.

Controversial violence of GTA + addictiveness of a MMO = Oh god...

I love to see usernames in the game that has something to do with Jack Thompson. We all know that at least one person is going to be Jack Thompson in this game.

@DarknessDeku

You heard right (on HALO, I don't know about Bioshock). He said it was a public nuissance (a term typically reserved for brothels and whatnot), which is hillarious considering *he* fits that catagory soooo well.

@GRIZZAM 512

I believe he attacked it when he said it was being marketed to children when he saw the advertisement while he was watching WWE. :P

Gangster Street Jenkins.

Word.

They are so gonna get sued.

Can't wait until all of the Right-Wingers find out about it, then we all will be in for hell.

I see controversy!

..... I can see it now:
"All my son does is play real-life 'cops and robbers' with his friends until finally one day they decide to rob a REAL bank and shoot at REAL cops"

On an other note, I would like to see a good MMO that doesn't try (yet again) to emulate WOW's game play system.

WOW.

an mmo which doesn't involve spell casting!?!?!?!?!?

@Andy_UK

NAW, there's going to be MAGIC BULLETS!

Wow... what a marketing pile of puke. "I have an idea, lets make a violent game based on crime. And let's make it an MMO, warcraft ruled. We'll call it.... CrimeCraft. It's genius." I'd be more inclined to be interested in the game if it was called something completely retarded.

Seriously, It'll be rediculous. OH MY GOD, ALL THE VIOLENCE! PROTECT THE CHILDREN! F*ck the children!

i'm waiting for the "controversy" of Age of Conan (M-rated. full gore and some nudity, too)

So where are these screenshots? Why couldn't they have been linked?

@ DCOW

Chuckles!!! Magic Bullets!!!!

shit name for the game ain't it!!!!

@DeusPayne
Gotta agree with you man. This marketing scheme seems extremely half-assed and transparent, seriously I don't even want to know what gameplays like, I hope this game fails purely out of spite. "CrimeCraft," really? I'm suprised they didn't just name it World of Crimecraft, include an Orc-Mafia, a couple gnomish street gangs maybe?

Sounds like a fun game.

World of WAR-uh...I mean CRIME Craft!

I'm sorry, i can't get past the game's title. 'Crimecraft?' Does every MMO on the market HAVE to have 'craft' in the title?

What's the sequel called? 'Crimecraft 2: EverCrime?'

The media watchdogs are going to go mental. EPIC style. We'll be seeing frothing and holy water, people!

Actually, Realtime World's A.P.B. has a similar premise and is likely to be more popular- given the fact Microsoft is publishing.

From the Wikipedia entry:

It has been said that the game will include features such as:

- ownership of real-estate and cars

- possibility to run shops, warehouses, banks, productions

- fight over territories and clan wars

- combat system unique for MMO

- developed social system. Possibility to solve conflicts without a single shot

- a possibility to choose law-obeying, criminal or financial professions and changing of those throughout the game.

I dunno. This sounds like it could be fun.

Backyard Cops and Robbers taken to the next level. Actually, more like 3 or 4 levels ups.

I'd love to see someone throw a fit over CrimeCraft.

What? You never play Cops and Robbers as a kid? What was the point of wanting to play of the Robber didn't win once and awhile?

CrimeCraft: Advanced Backyard Cops and Robbers for the older crowd.

Good I still have time to upgrade my crapy computer so I will be ready for a MMO that actualy does not look like the characters are made out of folded paper.

LFM Bank Heist... need dps and getaway car... full on hunters

since when does GP hype games?

@ Sithlibrarian

Well what do you know... actually sounds like an interesting concept.

Here, let me start the bullshit so we can get it done with. This game glorifies violence and is being marketed to babies and even fetuses!Studies that I refuse to name show that games are desensitising and lead to aggressive behavior and also AIDS!

"- ownership of real-estate and cars"
easy to do

"- possibility to run shops, warehouses, banks, productions"
Selling stuff at fixed prices, monitoring bots(becuse you wont be doing every lil thing)...managing a drug making outfit that makes drugs should be interesting,I wonder if they will let you put cut coke with rat poison :0

"- fight over territories and clan wars"
easy enough to do

"- combat system unique for MMO"
I can see a auto aim action based system with lite to hit rolls similar to GTA its this or more 3rd person action.

"- developed social system. Possibility to solve conflicts without a single shot

- a possibility to choose law-obeying, criminal or financial professions and changing of those throughout the game.
"
Interesting I can see how this would work from playing fallout, but...mmmmmm lets jsut see how deep this is...

Looks like most of the things promised in Anarchy Online and Vanguard... No way they'll pull it off in any meaningful way.

And CrimeCraft? Honestly I hope Blizzard sues.

Crimecraft? What do they think adding the word Craft to the game will increase sales because people will think WoW when they see the title? Only way I can see sales increasing for this game is if there is a huge controversy and people just buy it to stick it to those complaining about the game. Hell it works for R* every time they put out a game.

@ Vesmari

That, and i hope that this is just a late April Fool's joke or something stupid like that.

Because this is just plain STUPID. This is just BEGGING for controversy and attention in comparison to other games.

GTA: A written invitation going "Hi, i'm controversial, would you like to give me attention today?"

CrimeCraft: PLEASE GIVE ME ATTENTION RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I'M CONTROVERSIAL LOLOLOLOL

Something like that.

anyone remember spycraft?
Lets give them a benefit of the doubt until the gameplay is known to suck.

DavCube
...why? the gang genre sells rather well and it seems they have tried to add some depth to it, should be interesting to see how bad it when they launch it.

I smell a lawsuit coming. Are they really so creatively bankrupt that they have to leverage somebody elses name just to succeed?

@ Zippy

Um... i wasn't talking about the content itself. Or the quality of the game as a whole. Just the way that the game is pretty much waving to the politicians 'Hi i'm all about crime and i'm played on the internet by a few kids' and... you get my point.

The name reeks like a mountain of used diapers sitting in intense sunlight, but the game itself looks more awesome than a Chuck Norris beard-hair under an electron microscope.

I will buy it, and I will play as Jack Thompson. Just because.

@p51
"LFM Bank Heist… need dps and getaway car… full on hunters"

HA!!!

DavCube
Ya but any game to have I dunno life mimicking violence is going to be paraded in front of the population and whipped until everyone gets bored.

Catch 33
Personally I already hate the game ^^ can't stand gang themes and generic 3rd person X gernes.

... I'm actually interested enough to consider looking into this game- not for the controversy, but because it looks devilishly fun! =D

I forsee an inevitable lawsuit by Blizzard against this game's title. I'm not normally in favor of such lawsuits, but by calling it "Crimecraft", they are looking to associate this game with blizzard's warcraft or starcraft. I'm sure Blizzard will want nothing to do with this steaming pile of code, especially when the inevitable "protect our children" march reaches their doors.

That's a blatant rip-off. GTA-style gameplay + the name Craft in the title and an MMO *cough*World of Warcraft*cough* People aren't going to bother if GTA IV for the 360 has multiplayer over XBox Live.

Everyone who is trashing this game should ease up. At least wait until we know more than it's name and genre or you are making the same mistake politicians and pundits do when they condemn a video game without knowing anything about it. Just give the game a chance. If you don't, then you might miss out on something you would have enjoyed.

JT won't go after this because Rockstar isn't in anyway apart of it.

I don't think it's a blatant rip-off, although there's no denying the appearance of such, because "crime" is obviously a big part of the game", or which there is a certain "craft" to. It also drives the core of the game home very well.

However, the name still stinks in the way I previously mentioned, because there are far more creative ways of naming such a game, especially since it's an MMO.

"Countless Roads" would've been cool, although it also could've been interpreted in many ways by any who merely heard the name, which Vogster clearly didn't want. I can't blame them for that, because my methods, however more creative, are undeniably similar.

This is one game where there will be an actual reason for lack of tanks :D.

@ Geno:

Actually, it's Take Two's part that would be necessary to draw attention for old Jacky Boy. He's never railed against the actual makers of the GTA series, at least not to my knowledge and/or memory.
