Late Late Show Host Plays GTA IV Controversy for Laughs

May 13, 2008 -
Craig Ferguson (left), host of the Late Late Show on CBS, has a great monologue on the GTA IV controversy.

Kotaku has the video...

GP: Thanks to GamePolitics correspondent Andrew Eisen for the heads-up.

This must be a slow news day. THANK GOD. Oh jeeze...is that two 'l's or an 11 on the CAPTCHA... oh for piss sake...

Always wondered what

Always wondered what happened to him.  Was on UK tv quite a bit a number of years ago but then just disappeared.

Glad to see he's still as funny as he always was

This was awesome...

These rants were great. It made sense, even though it was clear there were some things he dissaproved in it.

(Captchas are annoying. Failed Tenth Time. Did this CAPTCHA get tested on any resolution higher than 1280x1024? It's absolutely impossible to read!)

This site

OMG I LOVE THIS NEW SITE

Dennis, thanks so much for this :)

Why the hell did this thing

Why the hell did this thing start asking me to fill out a goddamn CAPTCHA? The first time it did it I failed cause the stupid letters were to effing small. Is this only happening to me?

He's a real funny guy.

He's a real funny guy.

Awesome

Man, that was pure comedy gold.  I like as well how he openly admitted he hasn't played the game.  And yet he seems to know more about it than the mainstream media pundits who make way more than he does.  Joob on him!

I've always been a loyal

I've always been a loyal Conan watcher, but his monolouges have always been epic fail while the rest of the show was hilarious. Craig might be getting a new viewer for his monologues.

Not bad

I'll make sure to watch this video when I get home...

Thought I'd just point out that the new site design is pretty good

I'm not sure which is better

I'm not sure which is better this or the very old San Andreas/legislative hearing thing from Jon Stewart.

'Don't they know how much porn is on the internet?'

vs.

'Many feel the M for mature rating is too vague and completely inaccurate in describing anyone who plays video games'

Close Call.

Do I have to...

type in my name for every story? that could get a bit annoying...but still, nice layout and all

no, you don't

There is a way to sign up and have it automatically log in. Not sure how but apparently mine's all ready been that way for a year and 33 weeks (perhaps it's the forum registration).

(Unrelated, I know...) But,

(Unrelated, I know...) But, wow at this new site design, looks great! Damn though, I was so confused when I came on. I thought I went to the wrong site...

Looking good!

Nice new site GP. Looks very professionnal!

New look's great.

New look's great.

'sup?

Hey there everybody! How ya diggin' the new GP?

GTA IV

Polititions can learn a lot from him.

I like the shiny new GP, it

I like the shiny new GP, it will take a bit to get totally use dot it though. Anyway the Craig Ferguson bit was hilarious. Still is is a bit sad that the humour shows provide a better analysis of the issues that the actual news networks.

Huh...my name didn't show on

Huh...my name didn't show on that last post...This is Grizzam by the way.

STYLISH NEW LOOK, EH?

STYLISH NEW LOOK, EH?

Quite hilarious. Always loved this guy on The Drew Carey Show. Guys like him deserve more media attention than hypocritical fearmongers like Jack Thompson.

Is there another link because the blocks at work won't let me get into Kotaku?

I am now officially a fan.

Bonus points for the accent!

LOL that was hilarious and he made great points on parenting. :P

Hehe yes the mention of parenting was my favourite bit

"Screw you Dad, i'm going to church!" XD

Amazing how a Scottish wanker knows more about parenting and real issues than our own goverment.

If there is ever an open floor day in Congress, would somebody please recommend that the two Congressmen sponsoring the Truth in Videogames Ratings bill watch this clip while being smacked in the face with a halibut.

Stick an a hoop kids!

I think that this guy got a lot of new fans from that.

Nice. Now if only I could just watch his monologues, and skip the rest of the show. I really don't care about what celebrity's doing what. :)
-- If your wiimote goes snicker-snack, check your wrist-strap...

That is one of the most hilarious thing I have seen all year.

Very funny, but I noticed he was doing the old person thing of putting "the" in front of things that should not have them, "The Google", "The Grand Theft Auto", "The video games", etc.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to the work

Yeah! I always did like Ferguson's monologues. He fully admits when he doesn't get what the fuss is about and just how funny an outsider can find things.

The fact he's a recovering addict is also quite inspirational.

@Void:

I thought he was making a reference to how Dubya called it "The google."

"Old person" you say?....Bush...is an old person...

@Jabrwock
That's what TiVo is for.

@LightWarrior

Alright, old people and stupid people both do it.

I got this fun visual of him typing "The Grand Theft Auto" into Google though.

@LightWarrior

Bush…is an old person…

No shit. Part of why he's old is the result of all the things he has to do as President.

@Void

I got this fun visual of him typing “The Grand Theft Auto” into Google though.

Cute.

Craig was right when he said that teens will find a way to get what they want.

Cigarettes: Get someone else to buy them or steal them from their parents.
Alcohol: Steal it from their parents' liquor cabinet
Games: Use fake IDs or get their dumbass parents to buy it for them since they'll ignore the ESRB rating

I got a good laugh out of the parenting bit. Never watched his show, but I thought he was great on the Drew Carey Show

very funny from a nAErd perspective.

Too bad I can´t watch this guy in Mexico. I don´t know why is so easy for these guys to accept kids or teenagers can get porn or alcohol or cigarrettes, meanwhile, there is many more people obsessed with morality and chastity and God knows what more.

Void Munashii Says:
"... I noticed he was doing the old person thing of putting “the” in front of things that should not have them, “The Google”, “The Grand Theft Auto”, “The video games”, etc."

I'm pretty sure that was intentional.

Ken Says:
"Use fake IDs or get their dumbass parents to buy it for them since they’ll ignore the ESRB rating "

If I ignore the ESRB rating when buying a mature-themed game for my daughter why does that make me a dumbass? What if I just don't buy the notion that pixellated violence on a TV screen turns my daughter into a psychopath?

The dumbasses are those who want the ESRB warning but who don't pay attention to it when buying their kids games, and who later ask angrily for their money back (as if it's the salesperson's fault) when they realise the game they bought for their kid is GTA IV.

@Ian Cooper

I'm pretty sure that's what Ken meant.

Then it's what he should have said. ;)

that was so sweet

Haha, best thing I've seen in a while. The truth is so funny.

awesome, this guy is very funny!!

Michael ChandraSo really the guy's own words strike me as "wah! How dare you disagree with me!" behaviour, which is the sort of childish attitude I am unfortunately not surprised by.10/20/2014 - 2:17pm
Michael ChandraCorrect AE, but then again the owner's own words are about "wishes", not about an order. No "we told him not to", but going against his wishes.10/20/2014 - 2:16pm

Andrew EisenMichael Chandra - Unless I overlooked it, we haven't seen how the directive to not talk about whatever he wasn't supposed to talk about was phrased so it’s hard to say if it could have been misconstrued as a suggestion or not.10/20/2014 - 12:35pm
Andrew EisenHey, the second to last link is the relevant one! He actually did say "let them suffer." Although, he didn't say it to the other person he was bickering with.10/20/2014 - 12:29pm
