A researcher at England's University of Essex says that there is little evidence to suggest that video games are harmful. Patrick Kierkegaard, writing in the current International Journal of Liability and Scientific Enquiry, adds that, in his view, games do not lead to aggression.
He also suggests that previous studies linking games and aggression are biased.
As reported by Science Daily:
Kierkegaard explains... there is no obvious link between real-world violence statistics and the advent of video games. If anything, the effect seems to be the exact opposite and one might argue that video game usage has reduced real violence.
As others have done, Kierkegaard cites declines in US juvenile crime at the same time that video game sales are increasing:
Violent crime, particularly among the young, has decreased dramatically since the early 1990s. With millions of sales of violent games, the world should be seeing an epidemic of violence. Instead, violence has declined.
Kierkegaard said that the inherent bias found in many studies indicates a need for more details research on video games and their effects on youthful players.

Okay, please tell me that article was a joke. A correlation between violent Bible passages and aggression? That's insane. Look, regardless of what the "facts" say, it's almost common knowledge that if a child experiences an act of violence in a video game that they do not see in their home...clearly they are learning violence.

He is childish and abusive, and I dont know if this is dennis' reasoning, but the way I see it, I can deal with some internet troll abuse, (I think we are all used to it) in exchange for the oppurtunity to argue with him.

Hey maybe we could program a special sub-site of GP just for him, a Troll Trap. I was wondering, as I sometimes do, after looking at some of those crime statistics and what not...do those take into account something like repeat offenders? What I mean is, the report says something like youth crime is up 3% or 1.6% or whatever the amount may be, but do they count one person or the same group of people commiting multiple crimes or are they all individual acts? Maybe it's just me but I would think counting multiple crimes from the same person could have a significant impact on those figures. Kind of a "one bad apple spoils the batch" type of scenario.
