CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

June 6, 2008

We gather that CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is not a big gamer.

First clue?

Cooper mispronounced Nintendo's popular Wii as "the Why." The faux pas occurred on Wednesday night as cohost Erica Hill surprised the anchor with a Wii and Wii Fit Balance Board.

For a guy with such a hip image, Cooper came across like someone's grandpa:

It's like one of those new-fangled toys the kids play with, the Why-ee... I don't know from the video games. The kids all love the Wii. The Why...

I don't even know what one would do with that thing (the Balance Board)... I'm so not going to step on that thing and do this. No... I can, but I won't... I don't understand what is happening (while watching the step exercise on Wii Fit)... Why would you want to do this? ...what am I doing, I don't understand... This is a workout?

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

OH, Cooper trying so hard to look hip. First you CLAIM GTA IV has raping and now trying to say that the wii ,oh sorry, the Why-ee is not fit for kids.... Your like Thompson that got smart but left all the crazy in...

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Sorry I got confusse between Beck and Cooper.....

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

I was going to say, at least he's not willfully and maliciously ignorant like Beck is.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Actually, grandpa probably would have picked up on it in no time.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Why would you want to use the Why? Why, the Why is what we call the Wii and don't know why you call the Why after we said Wii and not Why. Why get a Why at all? Why not? Here's one reason why: Why Fit and Why Sports will weed out those wide waists. We have fun with the why so why don't you take the Why and give it a whirl and see why we're so crazy about the GODDAMNED WII YOU DENSE ASS.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

I feel your pain Anderson.

I think your show sucks and you're a sensationalist douche.. but on this one.. I hear ya man.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

I'll bet you the price of Wii Fit that if I put it in front of my Non-gamer parents they will totally get it.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

I still remember when he was a part of the awful "news" program Channel One. Not much has changed other than his hair color, he was a major doofus back then too. Though for some reason he and Lisa Ling are the only two I can recall ever going on to do anything more than it. Is Channel One still even around?

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Sadly, yes.  They still watch it in the middle school around where I live.  But, man, the last time I saw that was a few months after Cooper left to just start producing and even as a middle school kid I knew that it SUCKED!

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

My friends and I had a running joke about Anderson Cooper and random explosions or guerilla fighter attacks in those days.  He was always in the middle of some fighting going on somewhere reporting and shit would just be blowing up around him.

Honestly, I'd say probably having done all those reports strangled his inner child.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Ahahaha!

That's was amusing :p.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Ummm, what?  Anderson Cooper is supposed to be hip?  You seen his hair for the last 10 years?  He may be in good shape, but not exactly young.  Doubt he has had much time for video games either.   When he isn't on location, he on like every CNN program there is.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

O_O He's 41 years old. I remember looking that up a few years ago and being a little surprised at how old he was then. I thought he was in his early 20s at most back when he was doing Channel One, even before he left. But I guess it's not really that far off, he's just a square.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

The poor guy went gray very early.  Wasn't his stuff on Channel One freelance that they decided to pick up?  Did he actually work for them?

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

So much phail it's not even funny...

"Oh, oh, what's going on?  Who are all you people?  Where's my brain medicine??"

(Yes, it was a cheap shot, but it felt oh so good.)

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

He sounds like he is suffering a mentalbreak down. "Genration gap hittting limits. Does not compute this feeling. Must shut down. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

I have to wonder if Cooper is suffering some learning disorder because he constantly jumps between useing "wii" and "why". It's like he is suffering a pong match inside his brain. I hope he does not spaz out and suffer a seizure trying to cope with the wii.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Personally I like Anderson Cooper (though I wish he would just come out already). However, he is the squarest person in the world when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Honestly, Andy, you go to the gym like four times a week at least. You won't break the Wii Fit, and it won't break you.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

He was confused by the lack of attention he was getting while working out on the Wii.  He's used to being hit on or hitting on others while he's "working out".

He came off as an incompetent boob in that video.  Everyone I know at my work place from age 65 on down loves their Wii and thinks fit is an excellent addition for the Wii.

sour grapes

"I'm so not going to step on that thing and do this. No... I can, but I won't... " = I can do it but I dun wanna.

I believe there was an Aesop's fable about how food unavailable to you is nasty (like, obviously!).

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Anderson Cooper Fail

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Fuck it! We'll do it live

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

LOL

Cooper I love ya, but my 92-year-old Grandfather caught on quicker to the Wii than you.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

"Why ?" was the first thing that come to my mind when the Big N changed the name "Revolution" into Wii.

18 million sold later, I know why. (Still don't own one)

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Just shameful when someone as talented and smart as Erica Hill has to play second to someone like Anderson Cooper :(

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

"I don't understand this thing and I don't like it therefor no one else in the world should".

God I hate Americans sometimes.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Unfortunately we have high profile morons.  Mr. Cooper and JT are just to name a few.

I'm sure everyone in their respective countries has their idiots with a voice *cough*Vaz*cough*

Please don't generalize the entire American population on our morons, however if you'd like to adopt one from the country, I, for one won't stop you.

What did he do besides this?

What has Anderson Cooper done besides this? Don't get me wrong, I prefer Wolf Blitzer (and Larry King, for an old ass man, he's still pretty together), but shit, all he did was mispronounce the Wii. Yes it was quite an embarrassment, but hot damn, he still can't be compared to full blown schizzos like Jack Thompson or the assholes on CNN Prime News. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what people are pissed about? Is it Anderson himself, or just the fact that old people are oblivious to the workings of videogames? Can someone kindly explain this to me?

-GRIZZAM PRIME(c)is property of the U.S. Marine Corp. Wetworks Dept., and also The Incredible Hulk-GRIZZAM PRIME is not to be associated with GRIZZAM 512 or any other GRIZZAM entity under penalty of law, so sayith ZARATHOS.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Meh, we have far worse morons than Vaz here in the UK. He's an idiot about video games sure, but I've seen him discussing other areas and he's probably a nicer guy than most politicians ^^

Now Nick Griffin, HE'S a moron.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Don't generalize the entire population by an old white guy. (It makes you sound a bit like an asshole)

We cannot imagine your tone being either displayed as sarcasm (unless you make it painfully obvious) or your proper judgement on Americans.

But I really hate old people who just DON'T GET IT!!!

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

Yeah, I saw the Why-ee thing a while back. I'm surprised it didn't get reprted on sooner. Regardless, I honestly don't care whether or not he can pronounce Wii, he's still one of the only real reporters left in this country.

Re: CNN's Anderson Cooper Gets a Why... Oh, Wait, That's a Wii

So, Anderson Cooper is an idiot?

Here are we -- and yonder yawns the universe.

Valdearg: They beat the parliamentary trick. The senate bill is officially law, pending the President's signature. Now they vote on the fixes to that bill, in the next 15 minutes or so.
