Who else is tired of hearing about JT? I know many people are enjoying the irony of this sitaution, but personally, I've had my fill of ol' Jack. Guess I better suck it up though, as I tend to think the gaming media will be covering his shannigans for some time...

I'm personally hoping this will stop once he becomes simply another pair of flailing gums, but I unfortunately suspect you're right, everyone loves a show, particularly the press, and whilst Jack can't lawyer for toffee, he can put on a show while not doing it.

I'd say it was about four months ago? EZK was actually the first person to be given the task of comment moderation, and I want to say (s)he (no assumptions!) is compensated for the time used to that end.
It was definately since the redesign.

Well, Quicktime sucks overall so I looked at the source of the page and sure enough, the file is actually an MP3 with a full link to it. Because it is hosted by them, I'm gonna tell everyone that asks to go to the web-page, and look at the source themselves so the DBR will get the hit. Thompson is banking on that forged oath getting Tunis thrown off the case and having her rulings nullified, and banking that it'll get him off the hook. Same reason he kept trying to have other judges thrown off cases, he wants to keep recycling them until he gets one to rule in his favor.

The reason people are "obsessed" with Thompson is largely because they are sane individuals who find it hard to believe that a man can conduct himself as he does on a day-to-day basis and not face any judgement. That's half the reason I follow the stories at least. A lot of people actually agree with Thompson's position, in that children should not be exposed to content without a mitigating factor... like a parent. What they are against is monstering up games as some kind of pornographic medium to children that should be monitored by Big Brother, which is Thompson's solution.
And a lot of people, again, monitor him because of how he conducts himself. I personally want him disbarred. I want to know that a man cannot harass people the way he does, write the things he does and act as if how they conduct themselves in a professional venue to not have consequences. Yes, I know life is not fair... But it always makes me smile when karma balances itself back out.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Thompson is a nobody, everyone knows that. As someone else pointed out long ago, he's just the crazy old man yelling at the kids from his porch - except now his porch is connected to the internet.
We all want him disbarred because he deserves to be - what he believes in is completely irrelevant. And we're all hoping to see it happen because that gives hope that maybe, somehow, justice will come to the important people in the world, too (insert your favorite lying politician here)! But if some crazy old lunatic like Jackie can't get his just desserts, we're screwed.

Honestly, reading the transcripts is one thing, but hearing the tone in the voices just adds a whole new perspective.

Adrian - I hear you. But I have to say that, currently, Thompson's potential disbarment is the biggest single issue out there. Just as in late April-early May GP was wall-to-wall GTA IV stories. When Manhunt 2 or the Byron Report were the major things, we were there. This is an important issue to a lot of our readers and, believe me, I pass on many, many potential JT stories to bring readers the ones that are most relevant.

There still are. There are periods where Thompson's not in the news at all. He's just big right now because this recommendation of disbarment is a very long awaited moment.
When the disbarment is approved by SCOFLA (and has anyone else noticed that that abbreviation is close to the word "scofflaw"?) and becomes official, that will be pretty huge too, despite Jack's delusion of a civil rights suit making it all go away.

As mentioned each and every single time someone has made a sentiment like yours on this article, as much as we dislike Jack Thompson, he is very relevant to both Games and Politics. Plus, Jack had made it somewhat personal with regards to GamePolitics.com before, and the ECA, so as such, his little craziness ends up being reported here... GP also does many other articles, and as it is a news blog site, where Dennis has creative authority over it, and people are still streaming in to read GP... I'd say he does a good job with it all, and there apparently are a lot of people who *are* interested in the Jack Thompson case... I'd almost say, based on the heavy volume GP has gotten with regards to it, that a good magority of GP readers are interested in the Jack Thompson case...
