Oh wow...and just when you think good old John Bruce can't toss another surprise on us. What will his campaign slogan be? "I have made a mockery of justice, and my own legal career....Why not give me the chance to destroy a political by acting like a complete buffoon! I am counting on you!" Seriously, who would vote for a right wing hardcore nut-job, who is on the verge of getting his license removed because of 27 counts of misconduct...

What is he going to do now? "I am Jack Thompson, Politcian. Judge Dava Tunis, now that I am higher up than you...throw you off the bench, and reinstate me! Jack for the win! You pixelantes looooooose! Bwaha" ...okay seriously, I know it can't happy, but funny thought.

Then again...he has the prerequisites for most politicians. He is a loud mouthed windbag, who doesn't have a shread of honesty or decency :P  Politics would be perfect for him!

So he is going to be doing something about immigration??? I thought he would of jumped on the ban games bandwagon and started to draft up legislation to ban ALL games from Florida once he goes into politics.

It would make a great headline: Disbarred Attorney Runs for the Florida Legislature.

It's a shame we don't hold legislators to a higher standard than we do. These are the people who make the laws that bind us. Legislatures need fewer idiots, not more of them.

It's probably all just a face-saving tactic. When the bar take away his license he can turn around and say "Ner ner ner ner, I don't need your stupid license anymore; I'm a politician!"

Lots of video game restriction laws have been sponsored and have gotten through the legislature, they have no problem with that. The problem for them is, they all get ruled unconstitutional. It's happened with every law that Jack has helped write or draft. The only difference it would make if he were doing the sponsoring himself is that he could no longer bow out quietly when the law fails and lay the blame for the failure at the feet of the sponsors. He would also be directly responsible when people eventually start getting very angry at the complete waste of taxpayer money these laws represent.

I hope he does run. Just so his opponent can drag up all the dirt on JT from his disbarrment, including lying, making false statements with reckless disregard to the truth. They can actually truthfully claim he is a proven liar (unlike other politicians who at least get away with it)

In all seriousness, he has WAY too much dirt on him to successfully win an election.  His statements made on the record and through email, letter, fax, court docs, and interviews chronicle his true colors.  An opposing politician would only need to do an afternoon's work to have PLENTY of ammo to demonstrate to voters why NOT to vote for him.  And lets not forget his stunning legal career coming to a dramatic, dirty, end.

If he were elected to any public office, I have little doubt he would find a way to get himself into ethics troubles.  The man is unable to behave in a manner in which one keeps a job- public or private.

You would think he would have been more interested in caring for his wife...though I still have my doubts she is or every was sick...

Even though I know he has never really made good on any of the threats and declarations he's made over the years, in the back of my head I still worry that maybe, just maybe, he'll surprise us all and his next move just might be the one he finally makes good on.  That's probably because I still remember the days when he went after 2 Live Crew, Ice-T and Howard Stern and he was effective or semi-effective in those efforts and wielded a bit more influence.

Nowadays, though, I'm not so sure anymore.  All the threats he's made against Dennis, GP, Take 2 et al (as well as me personally) have never amounted to anything.  His "little surprise" at his disciplinary hearing never materialized.  And his defiant attitude and declarations that he'll "win" against the Florida Bar seem more like puffery at this point.

Personally, I don't see how a disbarred attorney could stand a snowball's chance in hell of running for political office, let alone successfully.  If and when Jack's disbarred, I'm sure it'll make major headlines in the Miami area by virtue of who he is.  Everyone will know about it.  I've often compared disbarred lawyers to defrocked priests; no one would want to have anything to do with them.  Jack will be a pariah to just about everyone, his disbarrment being common knowledge and as such would have no legitimacy to stand on.

So in summary, Jack's chances of mounting any kind of political campaign would be, as he has said, slim to none.  And slim just left town.

Still, there's that nagging feeling in the back of my mind...

What state would want a legislator who'll most likely be disbarred on 27 counts of misconduct. For one thing, It'd be too easy for the cndidates to find facts against him. I mean, they could just look at GP and find all they needed.  Or, in some truly bizarre twist of fate, Jack wins a seat on the legislature, I wonder about his immigration stance. Hmm...

What the audit actually says is that of kids 12 to 15, 24% strongly agree with the statement "violence in games can have more impact on people's behavior than violence in TV or on film" and 32% strongly agree with the statement "violent games can affect people's behavior outside the game."

See?  UK kids are not saying they think violent video game make you more violent or aggressive.  That wasn't even the question asked.  Hell, the word "aggressive" doesn't even appear anywhere in the report's 115 pages.

Oh, and "overwhelming majority"?  54% strongly or slightly agreed with the first question (hardly an overwhelming majority) and 67% strongly or slightly agreed with the second (closer but still not what I'd deem an overwhelming majority).

Oh well, for what it's worth, I believe Thompson would be just as effective a legislator as he is a lawyer.

Hasn't he already demolished his own chances at being elected with his recent problems with the Florida Bar? I can't imagine anyone being stupid enough to vote for him, especially after how many enemies he's made in the court systems. Wouldn't even have to resort to mudslinging, just talk about what he's actually done. Even if he did succeed, he wouldn't be able to accomplish anything, again, because of how many enemies he's made.

If he does try and run for a political post, it will be time for everyone to get the word out of his behaviour to the voters.

Normally I don't like political mud slinging campaigns, but with his colorful past(and present) I would sooo look forward to this one!

I live in Florida and we cannot vote to save our lives. Every election, something happens that makes the votes screwey. So, I get the feeling that Jack could possibly win. But, I swear, if Jack does get elected, I am moving to New Hampshire earlier than planned. Not because I believe suddenly he'll be able to impose his morals with no resistance, but because he'll be able to try.

Well, we got to look at the good in everything....  When speaking about Thompson, you got to look at his consistency.  He'll fail and fail at something until he can't fail no more.  He's failed at being a lawyer until he is no longer one...  He didn't fail THAT bad at a politician, so that's his new career path to burn to smithereens!!!   Next stop, retail!

Good god, just reading the synopsis at the radio show's website makes me vomit in my mouth.  I'm convinced the sun down in South Florida has messed up a load of minds down there.  ANY licensed attorney with half a brain can recognize that JT so deserves to be disbarred that it's hardly up for any discussion.  All one has to do is follow the links the radio show supplies here and there to find out what kind of people you are dealing with; right-wing conspiracy theory nutbags.  Not much different than the left-wing liberal "vast right-wing conspiracy" nutbags, only the former thinks that GOD is on their side, which makes them frankly more dangerous.  You can't reason with a fanatic.

He won't run - He's just blowing smoke.  I know it's kind of vogue to hate Jack Thompson in gamer culture right now, however, I don't think he's so completely divorced from reality that he doesn't understand what running for high office would be like.  More to the point, who would finance him?  Would you contribute to the thompson campaign?  Not fricking me. I would imagine only pretty hardcore conservative christians would touch him, and the fact that even NIMF dissaovwed him, well,  where's he gonna get the money to run?

Politics doesn't quite add up.  I tell you, I do see some activism in his future, but more like the PAC kind.  I see him forming his own or joining some sort of activist group; and working his ends that way.  That way all he has to do is find some gullible/misinformed people, and that's not terribly hard to do.
