We've often wondered why game-hatin' Florida attorney Jack Thompson didn't get his own website where he could push his opinions and his frequent URGENT! press releases to his heart's content.
It appears that he soon will.
On Friday Thompson, who is expected to be permanently disbarred in the near future, circulated a press release touting www.copycatviolence.com, a website designed, he says, to:
...help victims as well as alleged criminals prove the causal link between violent entertainment and specific acts of violence.
Claiming that the site, which is currently in parked status at GoDaddy, will be online "soon," Thompson promises:
...a host of resources available to help others prove, in civil and criminal courtrooms as well as in legislatures, the fact that violent entertainment, particularly adult-rated entertainment marketed and sold to children, leads to violent criminal acts.
This inescapable causal link between violent entertainment and acts of aggression has already been proven by various healthcare providers, including the American Psychological Association, but no one to date has provided comprehensive resources to pin the tail on the entertainment industry’s reckless practices.
GP: We're wondering if the new website signals a move on Thompson's part to market himself as a so-called expert witness in "violent media made me do it" defense cases...

Remember, kids- in JT's world nobody is responsible for their own actions! Although I don't condone it, JT has made so many enemies of tech-savy people that I predict constand Denial of Service attacks.

He's had several sites in the past. All of them went down after a short time. All of them badly designed.
His last announced site (something about david and goliath, but memory isn't what it used to be, too many late nights and not enough coffee right now.) It didn't even get beyond him registering the domain. Nothing was ever put up there.
His interweb skillz, they are not the l33t.
Not because it gives JT a platform to address the world, but because it collects all his quackery in one place. That way it's easier for people to mass debunk his wild theories. Of course, I highly doubt he'll allow comments on his site (even constructive ones) and I've no doubt he'll have a "Feedback" page that will contain all the vitriolic emails and messages he gets from retarded gamers who want him to die/want to inflict bodily harm on him etc.
With his ramblings down in one place gamers and sites like this can at least pull his arguments apart one paragraph after another. Sadly I doubt he'll include positive game articles, the site will likely focus on only the worst cases and case studies. Perhaps a mirror site needs to be setup to serve as a platform to debunk the dross he'll post.
You're giving Jack too much credit. At best, he'll put up a single static page of text, that looks like the 1994 internet. More likely, it will just be an ad page like jackandgoliath.com. Followthrough was never Thompson's strong suit.

I am still kind of wondering how Grand Theft Auto 4 is marketed toward children. I mean I have seen the ads, the video trailers, the website, and so on and it is clearly marked as a M rated game and geared for adults. I just don't see how anyone with an average IQ can see this game being for kids. GTA3 wasn't marketed towards kids. GTA VC or SA weren't marketed for kids. GTA4 is not marketed for kids. So who is JT protecting? Mature rated games are all clearly marked for not being for kids. If parents and clerks get these games or sell them to kids then that is the fault of parents and store clerks, not the game developers and publishers.

If the site has an interactive aspect (blog, forum, etc), ANY opposing views will be censored entirely OR there will only be a couple allowed just to APPEAR fair OR ALL real opposing views will be banned while FAKE opposing views will be posted by him, or someone associated with him, that will not read as any significant opposition (weak "arguments") or even FAKE trolls to make it appear that the only opposition is by unintelligent individuals.

You have no reason to worry. Within minutes of his site being posted it will have one of the following happen to it:
1) Continuous DDoS attack.
2) All of his views will be replaced with the correct views by any number of gamers that hack.
3) His site will be altered to meta-redirect to a rick-roll.
4) His site will be altered to contain as much gay-porn as is possible to fit on one page.
5) His site will be altered to become one giant bel-air.
Hopefully not. The fact is, it will be HIS site, so he can do with it what he wants.
HOWEVER, if his site ends up as described, and censorship prevails, then his opposition can scream "hypocrisy" in that he's complained about being censored for so many years. He can't have it both ways.
Even if it is interactive, I doubt I'll waste my time attempting to contribute. At least not initially. I'll wait to hear from others who've tried and then get a feel for what to expect.
But then, it's equally likely he'll FAKE these events and claim they were real attempts to violate his Freedom Of Speech. Don't get me wrong. He wants to waste his 2 megs of space in the 'net, let him. I just think trying to get a foothold for your "cause" in what is essentially enemy territory is a fairly unrealistic goal. And I honestly think he'd be better off paying for therapy for his paranoid delusions than he would for a website. But hey, you know what? I wish him luck, because he's going to need it.

I'm not sure why Jack's bothering with this. Like Benji said, he's obviously trying to sponge money from people hoping to make a return in court settlements. Doesn't he realise that ANYONE who even considers donating money to this "organization" is going to do a background check on Thompson and his cause? One Google search for "Jack Thompson" throws up numerous reasons for why you'd be more likely to see a return in your investment if you were to flush it down the toilet rather than give it to Jack.

Not only for journalism reasons, but also because JT's website is not as old as GP or Wikipedia. Google places higher link authority for domains that have existed for a longer time.
Also, it's not too hard to play the Google search engine in a way to put the website in hilarious search results. For instance, it happened before with George W. Bush's biography page linking from searches of "Miserable failure". Keyword spamming and hiding is one of many ways to get your website to the top, whether in a good or bad light.
One Google search for "Jack Thompson" throws up numerous reasons for why you'd be more likely to see a return in your investment if you were to flush it down the toilet rather than give it to Jack.

At worst, a study may have found a corellation, however, none of the studies found causation. In fact, it is very hard for a study to definitively find causation, there are too many variables. Of course he will hide the studies that prove him wrong.

How is he going to find a web designer for this? Most tech-savvy people are younger, and are likely to play videogames. It would be HUGELY hypocritical for him to hire a "murderer in training" to design this site.
I find it silly for him to announce that he reserved a domain name. Usually, people make announcements when the site is launched...or at least have the domain resolve to SOMETHING like a "coming soon" message.

How many people have to come out and refute the "direct causal link" in the APA study before Thompson realizes he's wrong. I mean, for most people a member of the APA flat out telling him that's not true would be enough, but this is JT we're dealing with.
I hope his website will have some sort of comment features so that people can argue opposing viewpoints, like they can here and on any other gaming site, but I'm not holding my breath. Even if there is such a function I'm sure it'll be regulated to keep out anything not positive towards him. Something I hope happens since it would make JT a hypocrite yet again.

Third was http://www.jackthompson.org/ which has independant news about him, linking to Gamepolitics and Kotaku. That site is the perfect nail in his coffin for ANYONE who googles his name. Not to mention the Wikipedia article has plenty of information about the disbarment case.
