Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

August 15, 2008

Do you think Jack Thompson's act is a recent development?

No way.

Thompson has been waging his unique form of culture crusade for a long time. At least two decades, in fact, as demonstrated by this 1988 official investigative report from Deputy State Attorney Marshall King Hall to then Florida Governor Bob Martinez.

This one is a classic, featuring Thompson, Janet Reno, a shock radio jock and a mysterious phone phreak named "Fruitcake."

GP: Since we're publishing on a light schedule due to GP's U.K. visit, this seems like a good point at which to share this with GamePolitics readers.

c-c-c-combo-breaker! Wait....

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

And they are JUST now getting to sanctioning him.

And even back then, he couldn't take a picture without looking like a douche

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Not only has he been doing it for years, but managed to prove utterly incapable of learning from experience, as his recent antics have proved, he's actually got worse at it, not better.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. This should officially qualify JT for mental disability. He's seriously retarded, and I mean that in a medical way. Jack, you are a sad, strange little man. And you have my pity.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

He's not retarded, just insane. I advise that you actually look up what retarded means.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I don't think he's programmed to learn. He just does the same thing over and over again with anything that you throw at him.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Heh, nothings changed.

How you enjoying the UK? Having fun with our weather?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

7. Mr. Thompson filed a criminal complaint with the Miami Beach Police Department on September 8, 1988, alleging that Ms. Janet Reno had committed a battery against his person at a local elementary school.

Superimposed Janet Reno and Jack Thompson on Mortal Kombat footage in 5, 4, 3...

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

You know what's funny about that? The alleged "battery" was just a hand laying on his shoulder.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

"It must've hurt, touched by a girl who looks like Lurch."  Ah, Sarcastic Gamer and that video.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I wonder what Thompson's gonna do when he sees this....Oh, that's right. He's gonna try and sue Dennis. Unsuccessfully...We'll just have to sit by and wait...Yep...

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

The consistency of Thompson's delusions are honestly frightening.  His bogus ideas are irritating and dangerous, but I'm starting to suspect some sort of mental illness might be involved.

Is there any way Jack can get some help?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Usually those with Narcissistic personality disorder are beyond help as they fimly beleive that they don't need it and everyone else does.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

This isn't news.  Now you are just provoking him Dennis...

Although that is a funny picture!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

What's he gonna do, sue Dennis?

LMAO. Though we've heard alot about these old stories of his, it's nice to finally get some more details.

But yeah, his career didn't end after two decades of this crap? WTFF, Florida?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Oh that wacky Jack, will he never learn

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Clearly, Janet Reno was being blackmailed by Neil Rogers, who knew that she was a homosexual because he is also a homosexual and they all attend meetings together where they discuss how best to destroy the institution of the American family.  Also, gay people are all pedophiles.

Also clearly, Governor Martinez, State Attorneys Hall and D'Allesandro, Commissioner Valdez, the Coral Gable Police Department, Southern Bell Telephone Company, the principal, librarian, and two teachers from North Beach Elementary, and Sgt. Yaro were all bribed by Neil Rogers, and possibly a mysterious third party named Fruitcake, whose real name may be Mr. Azi Schwartz or Mr. Azi Dubisky, to cover up the vast conspiracy that Jack unearthed.  It is probable that they did not fill out their loyalty oaths correctly; somebody really should investigate that.

My favorite part:

"It was also clear that Mr. Thompson appears to have an obsessional hatred of Mr. Neil Rogers and his radio show.  Mr. Thompson infers crimes and deviant sexual practices where others do not perceive them."

But that is neither here nor there.  The biggest bombshell of all is that GP is clearly in contact with Mr. Schwartz or Dubisky, and has used that connection for the nefarious purpose of obtaining this secret document from the former governor.  This clearly occurred at one of the monthly meetings of the International Coalition of Homosexuals, Radio Hosts, Video Game Publishers, and Every Single Judge in Florida and Alabama.

This conspiracy runs DEEP.

"Once again, the perceptions of Mr. Thompson are not in harmony with the facts of the situation."

This is probably the most elegant statement on Jack's state of mind I have ever seen. It should be his motto or something.

"Once again, the perceptions of Mr. Thompson are not in harmony with the facts of the situation."

Definitely the money quote!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

We're beyond morons, Jack?  Last I checked, I wasn't about to lose my job.  Maybe you should ask yourself this: How stupid does a person have to be to get fired when he's practically self-employed?

By the way, you were the inspiration for my signature.

"There is no sin except stupidity." - Oscar Wilde

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
@ jack 'inbred fred phelps clone' thompson; ive seen nothing but a disgusting, malicious stupidity from all of you so-called moral crusaders or culture warriors, whatever you corpse-raping sh*ts call yourselves. theres nothing at all cultured or moral about you lying through your asshole about games, movies, novels or music suppodesly being the direct cause of every violent event in history. let me tell you, its not the game developers encouraging bullying or child abuse, its not the writers masturbating to school shootings, its not the musicians telling grieving families that their losses were some kind of divine punishment... IT'S ALL YOU. to you self-claimed 'protectors of the children' the columbine and v-tech massacres were fantasies come true. of course, youre not going to admit this - you barely have enough brain matter to keep your black hearts going, let alone come up with an explanation/apology for your terror tactics. permanent disbarment is being way too merciful on retarded, massacre-chasing subhumans like you mr thompson.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Just leave the old fart to his slow demise.

I think that dennis should start a cowndown to the disbarment day.  Is there an official date set?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

We should see if we can ban Jack Thompson from the media, since he trains kids to be douche bags.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Ignoring the Thompson trainwreck, if you're coming anywhere near Southampton during your UK tour Dennis and have a free hour or so I would be happy to buy you a beer.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson ROFLs my waffles.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Whoever has moderated Thompson's unrelated and contemptible posts (good call, incidently), could you also remove the replies? These posts look disproportionate out of context, to someone who hasn't seen Thompson sullying a man's tragic death with lies and delusional self-glorification.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Or just leave his BS in place? I would like to know what is going on.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Or maybe put them on a seperate link where we can see what he said IF we choose to? Could that be a possible solution?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

*nods* that would be ideal.

Or some way to look at the revision history of the thread, so bad stuff can get modded out for people just getting in, but historical stuff is not lost.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I agree it would be nice if it could be left in place, but then I suppose GP would just end up as a repository for the reams and reams of rubbish Jack likes to write. It's a close call...

Gift.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I've been noticing that on a past few articles, and it's really confusing.

Dennis, or EZK, why not just leave the actual posts there, just delete everything in it and put your own statement in its place. "Deleted for excessive douchebaggery" or something.

Sorry, i was trying to stay serious in the matter, but i couldn't resist that last comment.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Nice find GP, this will keep me in a good mood all day.

The failure of our government to not require an environmental change for Mr. Thompson to a community for the mentally ill is bothersome.  Instead tax money was wasted by this lunitic which could have gotten him on the medication/psychological help he obviously needs.  If they would have done this in 1988, they may have save millions in tax money, endless hours of dispute, and a long list of other things that Mr. Thompson has wasted since the late 80s, including 20 years of his own life.

I urge someone to do a grand investigations on Mr. Thompson's psychological state to find the best help for him.  Just make sure of one thing after everything is done though, Mr. Thompson is picking up the tab, because he has to have found a way to make money off of all of this stuff, or else he wouldn't have been able to do it.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
dang it, sorry for the typo's guys... my bad
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I ahve read that report and the behvior of Mr. Thompson, if he actually did these deeds, is absolutely abhorent.  This shows a complete lack of professionalism and a total disregard for basic courtesy.  Certainly you may disagree with someone, disagree with their views and choices, but to actually to do these acts and from what I have read from other reports about Mr. Thompson the man acts like a complete juvenile.

I myself am a very old gamer.  Started back in the 1970's, took a break after the crash of 1983, then on and off again since, but know going full swing.  Video Gaming is a hobby, Mr. Thompson.  It is no more ineherently hurtful or evil than reading a good book, watching a movie or play, or rolling d20 over pretzels and dip.  Will there be those who take it too far?  Yes, there will be.  May it be that man in Thailand, the Virgina Tech guy, or even yourself.  Everyone has the potential to take things too far, to be too obsessive.  Before casting any further judgment on others, Mr. Thompson, take a good long look at your own obsessions and see where they have gotten you.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Learned about it on Wikapedia, I just didn't see the court records about it and the fruitcake comment

Man, no matter how old he is, he always looks like he went into the ugly forest and hit every tree before coming out

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

During his Reno campaign, he looked like he was wearing a fluffy malteser on his head.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I have to raise the point that he is becoming ever more violent in his postings, it started with simple trolling, juvenile insults and gross incompetence, it has raised to threats of going to hell, now he has taken it so far to suggest the death sentence for gamers AND revelling in the deaths of others, I really think he is becoming a threat, how long until he starts to act on his threats and insane ramblings? I mean he is acting far crazier than any of us, the people he claims are murderers in waiting etc, it isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination to see the man finally taking action on his threats, this man is beginning to actually frighten me and I think that he is now openly voicing his intentions to actually go out and do something terrible, I think we have sufficient cause to have this man locked up for what he is saying, cos right now there is no telling if saying will become doing some time down the line!

Your soul is a tasty refreshing treat to ones such as I

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I agree with you. As I remember it, peopel such as the Oklahoma City Bombe,r Jeffry Dahmer, Kelbold and Harris, and even Adolf Hitler expressed such disdain toward certain people and cultures, and look what happened.

After disbarment, I won't be surprised if we hear of a Gametstop or Walmart shooting,.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

it might be more beneficial for Thompson to just snap and try to kill someone.  then we'll all blame the mental breakdown instead of the asshole.

Here are we -- and yonder yawns the universe.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I thought about that, but the more I think about it the more I realize that somehow people will blame his exposure to video games for his insanity and completely ignore the fact that he's a douche.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

That is something that I would really hate to see. It could be likely judging as how he thinks that so many people are involved in a conspiracy against him. If his disbarment goes through and he exausts all appeals, I would be afraid.

You honestly think he would be anymore competent as a hitman than he is a lawyer?  You're giving him too much credit.  If he did snap he would most likely be running up to people pointing two fingers and shouting 'Bang', afterall, Jack works for the Lord and doesn't need no gun...

No, he didn't.  He suggested all truck drivers are women, who are lesbians.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

As I don't live in the US Jack Thompson only really registered in my conciousness fairly recently. I've spent some time reading about events he's been involved in as I believe it's fair to understand where both sides are coming from when expressing their personal points of view and some of the comments made against him are really more detrimental to the commentors standpoint than Jack's.

I think the below (from Wikipedia relating to a 1990 case)  really sums up everything I needed to know:

"In sending documents to opponents, Thompson would frequently attach a photocopy of his driver's license, with a photo of Batman pasted over his own, just to make sure they knew who they were dealing with. Thompson said, "I have sent my opponents pictures of Batman to remind them I'm playing the role of Batman. Just like Bruce Wayne helped the police in the movie, I have had to assist the sheriff of Broward County." He also wore a Batman wristwatch."

Really the wristwatch is a nice touch .

As anyone who's ever read Batman knows, it's a thin line between Batman and those he puts in Arkham Asylum, that line just got thinner.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

In the Dark Knight movie there are some guys dressing up like Batman that get beat up and the real Batman tells them to stop imitating him.  I wonder if there's a lesson for Jacko in that film...

Hey, did anyone happen to notice that the warden guy on the criminals' boat holding the detonator in Dark Knight (near the end) happened to look alot like Thompson?...In fact, he was thinking about blowing up the other boat...Just a thought...

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

The question is: Was it of the Batman from the 60's TV series? Or the Frank Miller Batman?

If it's the former... don't even get me started on gay jokes that can be infered from that. If it's the latter, then JT is a hypocrite (old news I know) because those were quite dark and violent.

Either way, a grown man who goes around thinking that he's Batman normally gets locked up for it.

"Either way, a grown man who goes around thinking that he's Batman normally gets locked up for it."

Well, his middle name *is* Bruce....

Suddenly I feel unsafe.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

This nut would go away if people would quit giving him press.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I have to agree.  On the other hand he's just plain fun to talk about.

Dennis, you know what would be so perfect?  If on the day of his official disbarrment, you didn't post a thing.  Leave him checking the site every 10 seconds for mention of his name, but you make it like it doesn't even matter, and that he never existed.  I realize you have a responsibility to report, but leaving him hanging like that would just be super wicked awesome.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Yeah, but then GP would be hurting it's readership in order to tease JT, and that isn't good.  JT should never be a reason to make other people's lives difficult ^_^

Now.. if GP got someone to put a filter in place so the site behaved differntly based of IP address and removed JT stories only against JT's IP address.. now THAT would be funny.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

A friend of mine directed me to this article, and, well, it speaks for itself.  True, if Dennis makes no mention of good old Jack's disbarment we lose out on the report, but there's a way we can all have a laugh at him and STILL infuriate him by refusing to make any mention of the disbarment.  All credit for this to MDF, who directed me here, by the way.

The plan is this:

On the big day, not only do we have a complete lack of acknowledgement for him, but only one item.  It deserves its own line.

NO NEWS TO BE FOUND FOR GAMERS ON THE QUIETEST DAY FOR DECADES.

Maybe a few days later, a casual mention of the event stuck at the end of another artticle, as in: we have recently discovered that the infamous Jack Thompson has finally been disbarred.

Be cruel to him just because we can, ne?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
You're kidding right? Guys like this don't go away whither you give them press or not, the only thing that does is make his voice the only one thats heard, and we really don't want that.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

No; if people stop giving giving him press, he'll probably just figure out a way to barge into the mainstream media anyway. He probably considers himself more important than ANYTHING ELSE AT ALL in the news...

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

No, he won't. He won't ever go away unless he is arrested and thrown in jail for a long time.

A wise man once said (I can't remember who said this, though): "For evil men to win, all it takes is for good men to do nothing." Remember that the next time you think someone like Jack just needs to be ignored to go away.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

funniest thing I'll see today even if Jack scare me a bit. Maybe hes trying to annoy people enough so they'll pay for his therapy?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

If you want to see something really funny from Jacko check out the videos on this website: http://www.apfn.net/messageboard/11-30-00/mbs.cgi.3879.html

In the video Jacko says that all the women in the Bill Clinton administration are wiccan witches and lesbians and says that if Janet Reno isn’t literally the antichrist, she is close to it.

I originally blogged about this video back in 2005 http://popularculturegaming.com/?p=147 and I'll just copy what I wrote about it then:

The videos are hosted on the American Patriot Friends Network website and while there’s no evidence that Thompson endorses or ever had anything to do with that site, it is a very interesting site. If you look around, you can find out the “truth” about the World Trade Center and 9/11, http://www.apfn.org/apfn/WTC_STF.htm  AIDS is a manufactured virus http://www.apfn.org/apfn/aids.htm , and that the United States is secretly still a British colony http://www.apfn.org/apfn/bcolony.htm

Again, I have no evidence that Jack Thompson has anything to do with this website. However, it is interesting to know that Jack’s talk about Janet Reno was given at the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. I’d never heard of the place, so I did a search for Indianapolis Baptist Temple and it seems like the temple has a pretty colorful history of its own. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapolis_Baptist_Temple

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
Jack Thompson... A man who is really...really thinking he is doing the right thing, but in the end he is just making himself more worse... If you are going to fight for what you believe in is right, then at least think about what you are doing first before calling everyone bad names and saying they are going to hell. that really says allot about what this sort of person is. And in the end, it only makes America look like a really unfriendly country to those who are different. I would rather live in Canada where at least they laws aknowlage people who are different. Sadly, there are so many people from an age where being Jack Thompson is normal, just look at FOXNews, they are all people like Jack Thompson there. Also on the CNN ("Glenn Beck") for example. And also in the US, UK and also the Australian Governments... Of course not everyone shares those view points, But it is really funny to feel that this conservative thinking that "I believe in GOD, therefore I am ALWAYS right" thinking is really nothing more than a belief that discriminates those who are different from those who are cinsiderd in society as normal. Even Christians were discriminated in the days of the Bible because back then where they lived was Governed by Romans. But it is little wonder why it is the case these days that the people who judge others these days were the same people who were judged by those who were in power in the past. I think we all have had enough of Jack Thompson and perhaps it is better we don't talk about him the more we talk about him, the more he gets off on it. GamePolitics I know has always been like Media Watch, a site that watches closely on what is happening in the world of Politics and Videogames, but I think it is best that we all stop talking about Jack because since he is so obsessed with us, it is better we all ignore him. That is just my opinion though... TBoneTony

That petition won't even be filed, because "sweetie" needs a real lawyer to sign off on these.  This post is no different than his impotent little empty threats he likes to throw out.

Lets not forget his RICO suit against the ESA and the whole slew of other non-starts.  Oh, and his claim that the bar was going to apologize to him last week after what happened in Thailand (on the JAAblog).

I think its cute how he thinks the loyalty oath issue is still relevant.

By the way, what ever happened to your "slam dunk" proof that the bar is in kahoots with the secret Gay Agenda?

please dont use the word "sweetie" after jt started calling dennis that ive had a bad case of the creeps lol (i can only imagine how dennis feels!!)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I think that after Jack gets disbarred, he should start his own videogame company that only makes games that are rated E for Everyone, and contain no violence whatsoever and nothing even remotely provocative. Then, after his company goes bankrupt from not selling any games, maybe he will understand why other game companies make the types of games they do.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

way to be ignorant.  violence doesn't make a game good and the lack of violence doesn't make a game bad.

Here are we -- and yonder yawns the universe.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Still, with the games Thompson wants to see made, his company would tank fast.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Violence doesn't make a game good, it's true, but the thing is that jt will see violence in just about everything.  He could probably find something objectionable in TETRIS.  'Nuff said.

No. Really, no. Leave that for someplace more dedicated to comedy, like Kotaku or destructoid, i dunno.

Doing so here would just feed Thompson's "OMG, you're obsessed with me, get help lololol."

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Which is odd because JACK'S the obsessed one. It wouldn't shock me if he got disbarred and spent all his time here trying to convince us he's still a lawyer.

Of course he'd be required to sign all his posts "Jack Thompson, disbarred and you're not"

---You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
I realize the irony of the matter, yes. Doesn't change that it'd still be hypocritical of HIS claims.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

No, I think he'll continue to represent himself as a lawyer, after his disbarment, and he'll continue to seek out new clients and try to shoehorn himself into other people's trials.

i wish him the best of luck and suggest he doesnt drop the soap flasely claiming to be a active lawyer is a crime

True, but it won't stop him.  He'll claim the bar is part of the conspiracy, or pull out that old loyalty oath chestnut again.  It won't keep him out of jail, but I can pretty much guarantee it's what he'll do.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I thought this guy was getting disbarred this month. Or is it next month? When will we be done with him?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Early next month, I believe. The deadline for Judge Tunis to send in her final report was, I think, September 5th, so the Bar could make their final decision any time around then. Until then, we'll just have to be patient and diligent, taking JT's attacks as we wait for a conclusion.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Well it is in September apparently, but my birthday is on the 31st of this month, so I guess it will have to make a late birthday present... like Saints row 2, Fable 2, Gears of war 2, Fallout 3 and so on...

Your soul is a tasty refreshing treat to ones such as I

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Like many here I had heard of the stories.  In time long long ago before jackie was fixated on video games (and gamers).  Well he was still a putz.  Mind you young people do stupid things but it is normal and expected to outgrow such.  Not jackie, no no he has them right where he wants them afterall.  Following that reasoning the whole world should be in his hands by now.

Pity.   Seek professional help jack.  Personally I would not care if you walked off a pier but the needs of society and their need to be protected from such as you push me to suggest it.

Strange that nothing in the .pdf spoke of his being the right hand of God to smite the sinful (or did I miss it?) maybe he was evolved later?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
Sorry Thompson, I actually do have a life, and mine involves things other than breaking peoples fax machines with 100+ angry, non-sensical messages.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Say, how many times has he been banned today? I noticed his username keeps changing and figured he was repeatign history, again

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

He's not being banned. He is just being an idiot and trying to beat the spam filter.

For some reason, I am immediately reminded of the "heist" scene in the movie Half Baked.

"I'm not responcabel fer my comuter's spleling errnors." -- Xlorep DarkHelm

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

To understand how Thompson's legal career died, you have to understand who Thompson the lawyer was.

You see Thompson graduated from a bitch of a school, and he was always ashamed of this. Then he was introduced to Vanderbilt, a top ranked law school, so he enrolled. He became good, damn good. But then he came up against Janet Reno. He was like, I can beat her, she's a lesbo. So Thompson faced Reno. And he lost. He was like that's it. He started filing lawsuits left and right and acting unprofessional constantly. Finally the Florida Bar took away his liscense and his career ended. Wow.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

A brilliant summary. You get a gold star!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Actually, his epic failures started in 1975, when he failed to be hired for a job as an assistant State's attorney in Dade county

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I'm reminded of an excerpt from an ettiquette book I read in one of my Bathroom Readers... this isn't a direct quote, but...

"Do not look down your nose at the wait staff.  It gives the impression that you were once a servant yourself and are putting on airs about your station."  Or something like that.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
Wow! Three posts in one article to tell us WE are obsessed with the site? He's totally off the rails now.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

@ Adam and Pominator:

There is no set date for Jack Thompson's disbarrment. Judge Dava Tunis has finished her report and the Supreme Court will decide when they're good and ready. It could be tomorrow, it could be next year. Although I can't see the Supreme Court wanting Jack to be part of their organization for a second longer than they have to. I imagine they want to cut this turd off now. (Sorry for the toilet mouth but it seemed like the most appropriate metaphor for Jack)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I'm still waiting on this so called 'victory' that you claim to have Jacky boy... To be honest it's baseless as well as your professional career which is coming to an end... Rumpole is going to beat you senseless, you attacked Tunis and she is still standing... Take 2 are still standing so why does it matter now because you are getting desperate and ignorance is not bliss twatface... you are going to be disgraced, mocked and set an example.

Oh and btw I still think your gay... observe that you should be: Jack Thompson Secretly Gay and your not. :D

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

"Once again, the perceptions of Mr. Thompson are not in harmony with the facts of the stiuation."

This should be included in ever article ever written about Jack Thompson.  Ever.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

"[the harassing phone calls] involved the sending of unsolicited pizzas to his home, the making of medical appointments in his name with a PROCTOLOGIST, etc"

BUAHAHAHHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

#5 was a good one, it just proves he does the same smear tactics that he accuse the media/porn companies of...

#.... Battery against him by Janet Reno while at an elementary school?  And Jack probably knows as much about the electoral process as he does about the law...  Wait a minute, SO THAT HE WHERE HE PRESENTED THAT "UR A EVIL HOMO" LETTER!!!

"Further, [witnesses] were disturbed by the tactic of Mr. Thopson presenting such an odious letter at an elementary school."

They would probably be even more disturbed by his long history of such similar acts....

Loved the part about "I'm a lawyer, I know how you should do your job Sgt. Yaro."  Yeah right, and all lawyers know lightly touching someone on the shoulder is "battery".....

"No criminal battery took place and Mr. Thompson did this as a political ploy."

And we all know how well that worked out for him...

#8 Again with the pedophile accusations of Mr. Neil Rogers.  Given what the said earlier, they probably knew it was a lie even if they had to investigate it.

#9, hmmm, "we sent it to appropriate people with jurisdiction" seems to be their way of saying "not our department, even though it is probably another load of BS."

"It was also clear that Mr. Thompson appears to have an obsessional hatred of Mr. Neil Rogers and his radio show."

It also notes that these complaints are probably due to Jack's civil lawsuit against the same radio station...

"Through our investigation, we have determined there is no credible evicence to support the allegations made by Mr Thopsom."

And that still holds true up to --and well beyond-- this day.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

It's sad that an individual so obviously insane, and in need of psychiatric treatment could go for so long with help.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

The Florida Court should have sentenced him to psychotherapy. An Anti-Narcissism support group, medication, something! This guy needs help!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson, compelling evidence that we evolved from Monkeys....

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

dont insult monkeys!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

LOL You're right, at least when monkeys start throwing poop around, they actually tend to hit their target ;)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

And Jack doesn't seem to have advanced that far. Give the rest of us a little credit.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

It seems obvious to me that the man has finally snapped. Any further filings are just going to go as evidence against him.

I wish he'd just get on Wordpress.com and set up his own blog. It wouldn't even need comments enabled, the material alone would net him so many AdSense $, he could form a new living.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

For some reason, the following keeps playing over and over in my head:

"My name is Jack Thompson. I used to be an attorney, until..."

*Ring* "You've been disbarred. You can't practice law anymore."

*Whistle*

"When you're disbarred, you've got nothing. No cash, no reputation, no clients, you're stuck in whatever city you can't afford to leave. You do whatever works comes your way (shot of a Gamestop blowing up) you rely on anyone who's still talking to you (Shot of... an empty room) Bottom line: until you get your revenge on the Florida Bar... you've got nothing to do all day."

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Burn Notice is a great show.

Here are we -- and yonder yawns the universe.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Love the show, but now I have that playing in my head when I watch it on DVR...Damnit!! Where's the clip of Anwar in a swimsuit STAT!!!

Hunting the shadows of the troubled dreams.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Exactly why is JT going after Rumpole?  i've lost track of all the people he was supposedly going to "destroy".

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

May have something to do with the "Barnaby Min" posting (who knows if it was really Barnaby Min, but Jack's convinced it was) at justicebuilding during Jack's hearing which Jack claims is proof that Rumpole works for the Bar in putting out the Bar's libel on his blog against those the Bar targets for unfair discipline. Therefore, Jack concludes, Rumpole is a criminal conspirator with the Bar nd should be disbarred, blah, blah, blah, blah. Same ol' same ol'.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Definition of insanity: Trying the same thing the same way and expecting different results.

John...no, Mr. Thompson, Sir, please just....go away.

You think too much in terms of False Dicotomies and blame the majority for the actions of the super-rare, psycotic minority.

In the first case, you see things in terms of "All Gamers" and "Not Gamers" You make the assertion that all Gamers are violent and stupid. Even a casual gamer to you is a timebomb of violence trained by a bunch of pixels to kill outside of countless books, music, television, film and even passages in the Bible on the subject. WIth the many exceptions to the rules including Buddhist gamers (And aspiring philosophers such as myself) who like to go through violent games without killing anybody if possible like in MGS.  You fail to see that not all gamers are the same and that your Dictomy is false.

The second thing is that you blame the majority of gamers for the actions of the smallest minority, psycotics. Violent mental illness is exceedly rare and not every single game player could possibly spontaneously contract rare violent mental illness by playing a video game. Every killer you accuse of being caused by games was a psycotic long before they picked up a game.

Also, you seem to believe that Violent games is marketed towards children. If they were marketed towards children, the commercials would show children playing with them like any toy. None of the games you protest have done so. Games targeted towards children would also use jingles for children to easily remember, this is also not the case. Games are advirtised more like Big-Budget movies when they are advirtised. Even Bully, rated T for Teen, has no Blood in it and the game itself is about a boy rebelling against a corrupt system.

It does not matter to me how many times you come onto GP and post court filings, you will be nothing more than a Bully yourself in the eyes of Gamers as long as you behave innappropriately, disrespect this community and make false accusations and assertions towards people like myself who play games for the same purposes: To have Fun. To make ourselves and the people we play with happy. and To escape this world into another one, a world we can control, a world without people like you in it.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

*clapping happily*

Bravo!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

your definition of insanity is mostly right

UNTIL you work with computers, then thats the only way to keep your sanity.

in any case JT is most certainly kookoo and i really feel pitty for him (in an Ain Rand kind of way, read the fountainhead if you wanna understand).

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
How come he doesn't sign "Jack Thompson, att"- OH! The disbarment. Yeah. That thing.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Am I the only one here who thinks that Young Jack looks a bit like Luke Wilson?  I guess we know who'd play him if a movie were made about his life.  Pretty fitting since it'd have to be a comedy (well, if you don't count the bound-to-be-tragic ending).

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I was thinking more of those 80s movie villains. Pretty fitting giving how often he fails.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
Somebody find a pool for him to get thrown into while hair metal plays!
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Or like the comedian Nick Griffin. They both look a little crazy ('cept JT's more so).

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

This isn't news, GP is just trying to provoke him now.

Obviously

Nowhere is there anything stated that www.gamepolitics.com is exclusively a news website.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

And as you can see from Jacko's numerous postings, it worked.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

1. This ain't your site. It's a blog.
2. Nowhere does it say that this site is SPECIFICALLY just for news.
3. Anything with Jack Thompson's name on it provokes him.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

You think this is funny?  What until you see what I am about to send to the Florida Supreme Court.  You'll change your diapers, you GTA addicts. Jack Thompson

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I haven't played GTA in over a month. In the machien I have San Andreas on is packedi n a box for when my family moves.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I've never even played GTA...more of an RPG fan myself...

So, Jack, until you show us responses to these filings, I'm officially calling a big bull$hit on you.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

you think all gamers are GTA addicts? (for the record, I sold my copy of Vice City because I rarely played it)
Better check on your son then, as he's probably playing your copy of GTA IV. (You said in a Rolling Stone interview that he has an Xbox360, you should've grabbed the PS3 version to keep him from playing it.)

岩「…Ace beats Jack」

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

His son has a 360?  That's the weirdest thing I have heard in a long time.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

yep. and from the same interview, a Sony PSP as well

Smilies? Tom Jackson? Dennis, EZK verdict please? Faker or real deal?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I don't even own any of the GTA series Eintstein.

And yes, I'm looking forward to having a good laugh at your next attempt to save your lying, violent, corrupt hide :)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Yeah I'm really scared. It's not like we've seen years worth of motions, filings and subpoenas (and at your rate that's litterally hundreds of them) being dismissed at the first consideration or being failed to be filed at all.

No, seriously, Thompson. Think for one second. How many of these threats have you made? How many were succesful? Does your mental illness really prevent you from even asking yourself these questions?

Sometimes I wonder if you're manipulative or just retarded, and things like that make me lean towards the latter. Using tactics like that with clueless housewives, pushover executives or people who don't know better, would be repugnant but at least would make some sense. But here? Who do you think you're fooling? I'm serious. This is a sincere question.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Oh. I stand corrected. It appears that this was not in fact a threat, but you actually meant "You think this is funny? The next one will be so funny it will make you pee your pants!" I must admit that this further glimpse into your gay porn obsession was pretty damn hilarious. Well done.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack,

Whatever you send to the Florida Supreme Court won't get read unless you have another lawyer sign it, so it really won't matter.

Classic Jack Thompson Just As Weird As Modern Jack Thompson

What, you're going to send them bestiality porn?

Go change your Depends, old man.

Practice what you preach, worthless turd: Grow up and get a life.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

There is no doubt in my mind that what you're about to send to the Florida Supreme Court will, in fact, be funnier yet.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I completely agree.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

What JT says:

"You evil gamers!  Just you WAIT till you see [insert random legal-ish filing empty threat here] that will show up NEXT TUESDAY!"

What I hear:

"Mmmmmmmmm! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, mmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMM!!"

C'mon Jack. For once in your tiny little life, tell us something that we WON'T laugh at, okay?  At least make it somewhat believable.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

AH-HA! Fake! Jack NEVER uses emoticons! You've been exposed!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

More gay porn? More picture-books? I give up...what?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack, when has something you sent to a court outside an actual case ever changed anything?

The answer:  never.  Your "bombshells" have all fizzled, and your aggressive attitude has backfired.  Prepare to reap what you have sown - disbarrment style!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I've been gaming for about ten years (not that long, I know, people), and I haven't even TOUCHED a GTA game ONCE.  Get your world view straightened out, jacky boy.  Oh, and by the way, you're really starting to struggle for names that let us know who you are and haven't been blocked yet, aren't you?

And for your personal hitlist, and since I'm not scared of you:

Vin Shankar, Bristol, UK. lh7a7c0rqc[nospam]@sxipper.net

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack must have a lot of extra time on his hands to leave so many postings. Are you board Jack, or are you just trying to salvage what little dignity you have left? All I'll be able to say when you do get disbarred is "Finally, justice is served".

You're losing!

So, Jacky Boy, how does it feel to be up against the ropes while getting hammered away by the gaming nation while you're trying to swing wildly, looking for a lucky punch that will knock us out? Sorry Jack, the lucky punch is not coming, and the ref is gonna stop this fight. You're losing, Jack, so do yourself a favor and keep your mouth shut. Maybe you'll be able to leave with some dignity.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Is it just me, or does that picture remind you of a young Hugh Jackman?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I think it's just you. Hugh Jackman (at any age) looks a hell of a sight better than JT will, ever.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Practically ANYTHING looks better than JT.  If it doesn't, 10 minutes in photoshop and it will.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Please can someone help me out, with something to do with Crazy JT's history! I may have asked this before, but has he promised to go on a shooting spree against "sinners and non belivers" before. I swear he has!

So thanks if you can help me out!

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Guys, it's not him.  He's got bigger problems wouldn't you say?  Besides, last time I checked even Jack-of-the-hill-people knows full well that SCOFLA won't listen. I suspect if that were him he'd be threatening to take us to federal court.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I think you put far too much trust in Jack's powers of reason. If you've read some of the stuff at Jaablog, where he hasn't been banned, then you'll see that reason and Jack parted ways quite a while ago, with no forwarding address.

And I too have never played GTA. It's not my bag, man (to put it in lingo Jack can understand). And I actually haven't played a game in far too long; work, RL, and sleep tend to get in the way when you're busy.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

yeahi recently started checking out that blog, umm can anyone tell me wh he felt the need to talk about himself on the isaac hayes death post?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Doesn't surprise me. He just hates in when dead people get any amount of attention more than he does. (ie Hurricane Katrina: "I'm over here while this hack is talking about Katrina..." something like that)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Can I just say how funny Jack is?

Back before this year, he pissed me off and I hated him, but now every time I hear about him or see him post, I get a great kick out of it.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson reminds me of those people who attack peadatricians for abusing kids.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson
Nice try there Jackie boy, but I've only played GTA once due to curiosity and haven't touched it sinc. I'd hardly consider myself an addict of games, least of all GTA.
Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack... Jack... Jack...

Give it a rest will you?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

No.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

.....No?....No....Jack?....Maybe....

.........You know what?....Yes. Yes, you should.

I think rest would be good for you, Mr. Thompson. A nice long rest. Maybe it'll help clear your head so you can think about the things that should really matter to you...Like your sickly wife and only son...

Love them and cherish them, please, before they find out about your disbarment and insanity, and (most likely) leave.

Then you'll be all alone. Noone will want you, noone will want to put up with you.

All you'll have is you, yourself, and...well...you.

Then you'll be nothing but a sad little man with a lawyer's suit and briefcase and no license.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

By the way, I'm just wondering if Dava Tunis knows about this?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Dear Mr. Jack Thompson:

Thank you for sending us today, August 17, your Whistleblower complaint against ECA, the parent of GamePolitics.com.  We shall let you know the result of your challenge to its tax-exempt 501(c)(4) status as a result of ECA's targeting of you.

Sincerely, The Tax Man, IRS

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Obviously a joke. Thompson can't get the attention of ANY federal organization, and if he did, why would they post their reply here?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

You can tell this is fake because it uses the word "whistleblower" and it's signed "The Tax Man".  Think we'll get to fight him in Mega Man 10?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Actually, it's fake because it uses the phrase "we shall let you know the result" in what's supposed to be a letter by a government agency.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

You know... in trying to think of this as a real letter, I picture it being written in crayon.  And it makes me snicker-fit.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

'Sincerely, The Tax Man, IRS'

Er.... Yeah...

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Just a thought, but if the IP of this poster is Thompson, isn't it illegal to falsify communications from a Government body? Even if it's done incredibly badly?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Though, thinking about it, this attempt is so bad that it could almost be considered an unintentional parody of the IRS.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Um... guys. It's blatently obvious this is fake. People have been making fake letters like this for years.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Hence the reply to my own post.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

OK this is obviously a fake.

The IRS only uses proper names in correspondence.  Hence they would address JT has John B. Thompson not Jack Thompson.

BTW Jack, before you go sending in "anonymous" tips to the IRS let me let you on a little secret about IRS standard operating procedures.  If you turn a company or an individual in for any sort of tax wrong-doing the IRS may audit that entity...  ONLY after they audit YOU first.

So go ahead JT fire away at the IRS.  Spam their fax machines.  Show them the type of lawyer you are!  In turn they will give you all the attention you rightfully deserve.

-Loudspeaker
"Volume helps to get a point across but sharp teeth are better."

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Of courese it's fake!  You're MEANT to know it's fake.  This is what people call a "bad joke".  That's what I see in it, anyway.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

wow... he becomes more and more delusional by the day!

Your soul is a tasty refreshing treat to ones such as I

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson is the man that gamers love to hate.  I for one see his antics as being unprofessional, but do I hate him?  Nope.  Just because I disagree with him on so many levels does not mean I don't think he has to right to state what he has to say.  He could use a bit more ettiquet in my humble opinion, and so a bit more professionalism in the courts, but ultimately he does have the right to say what he wants to say.  FIrst Amendment is a double edge sword.  Just as much as Take 2 and Rock Starhas the right to make games and sell games as they wish, Jack has the right to object to such.

When a game company makes a game I don't particularly like I just don't buy it.  Best way to combat businesses who makes "questionable" goods is not to do business with them.  Get enough like minded individuals and you can create a boycott.  Personally I thikn that Jack, and people like him, should just mind their own lives.  Live their life as they choose and let other people live their lives as they choose.

Why can't people just leave each other alone?

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I don't think most of the community 'hate' him, at least, not in the 'I wish you a slow and painful death' way that Thompson hates us. They just get frustrated at the lies he spouts, and more frustrated at the foolish news outlets that don't bother to check their facts before printing them.

Really, the problem isn't Thompson, it's those News outlets, if people spent 5 minutes actually making sure the story was factual before publishing it, Thompson would get no air-time whatsoever, but he relies on news outlets like Fox News and the Daily Fail, because they have no respect for facts whatsoever.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Daily Fail?

I mostly get my news off of the BBC.  If you want good unbias news on the US, BBC is probably the best bet.  Never really bothered with Fox News since I don't particularly like their programming.  Then again I haven't turned on my television for about 4 years now.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

(snort) - I think I've seen the future!

If Jack gets disbarred he's gonna start rotating out which government agency he complains to until they all ban him.  Makes sense if you think about it - he started out with the florida courts, then DOJ, now the IRS.  When they stop listening he's gonna make his way down the line to the FCC, ASPCA, and EPA.

(snicker)

I don't actually believe that IRS complaint letter is real, although I admit, there's an outside chance it could be. Thing is,  if he REALLY wants to screw with your IRS , I say, you know what,  go crazy...really.  Call attention to yourself.  Seriously.  To the rest of us human beings that still have working brains,  we'll stay the heck out of the way.  If there's only two agencies in the country that you do not want to piss off,  It's DOJ and the IRS.  If they get angry, they will MESS YOU UPAnd they will not take 20 years to do it!  So, I gladly say, on the off chance that was the real jack and he actually did complain to the IRS.  Enjoy, you kick that hornet's nest, see what comes out.  (*ducks and covers*)

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

The Daily Fail is the more commonly known name of the Daily Mail, due to it's ongoing homophobic attacks, racism and stereotyping. Jack'd love it.

Yeah, the BBC is a good source for unbiased news, but like you, I don't really watch TV any more, at least on the Internet you can search around and get several points of view on something, not simply get one forced upon you.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Actually, the issue at hand isn't that his opinions differ from so many gamers. It's quite a bit more than unprofessionalism as well. His behavior is often harrassing and aggressive to the point where many individuals he attacks are caused actual distress. He has every right to speak freely, but he routinely crosses the line into making threats, spurious requests to law enforcement to take action against people with whom he disagrees and fraudulent claims misrepresenting himself, his clients, his opponents and even those he would name as so-called allies. Unethical is clearly a stronger word than merely unprofessional. A lawyer who wears a t-shirt to court is unprofessional. A lawyer that perpetrates a fraud on the court and knowingly ignores the rules of his profession and the state is in violation of his ethical duties. In short, the problem is that he is a lawyer...a profession where speech is more than just grandstanding on television...it is a carefully circumscribed responsibility that he has abused frequently in his obsessive desire for the recognition of his singular goals.

The First Amendment allows for reasonable discourse. Free speech is meant to protect an opposing viewpoint and open dialog between differing parties, not for someone to continually use his position as a lawyer, with all the powers and tools integral to the job, to bludgeon, shout down and curtail the speech and opinions of others.

I don't hate the man since I don't know him, but honestly I hate his actions cloaking himself in the First Amendment while trying to take those same precious rights away from others.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I haven't had much exposure to this Jack Thompson person to be honest.  I see snippets from his ranting about the GTA series but that is about it.  If the provided link from the article is the norm of this lawyer's behavior then yes, I agree, that is unethical behavior.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Sorry, but that was me.  Forgot to place the name.  As I said, I am not overly familiar with the man.  I have just gotten back into video gaming with a decent PC and XBox 360 after skipping a generation or two.  If a person can show me an unbiased accounting of Thompson's behavior it would be much appreciated.

You can read the report of Judge Dava Tunis - the referee at Jacks disciplinary hearing. Its official court document. It was linked here some time ago.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Is there ANYTHING Jack does to his opponents that does not involve legal action? I mean, he's a lawyer and all, but geez, every solution doesn't require a hammer for a carpenter.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

Thanks guys.  I read through some of the quotes, and obviously taken out of context, but he compares a game to a gun.  A game is not a gun.  It is an entertainment medium much like a movie, music, or television program.  A gun is a tool.  In either case if the game or gun was used or motivated someone to kill a person I don't see how the game or gun is to blame.  It is the person who did the deed.

Jack Thompson seems not to believe in free will, from what I have gathered so far, and personal accountability.  Also he keeps refering to God.  He does know that not everyone shares in the Christian beliefs and that law should taken account in that so it would be fair and balanced for all people of all beliefs.  Also I found his statements about Islam repugnant.  He does know that the God of Islam is the same God of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, right?

I must do a little more research before I come to any final conclusions.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

A surprisingly large number of people don't realise that the god(s) of all the Abrahammic faiths are one and the same, at least if you go back far enough.  Not that that's any excuse.  Neither gun nor game is to blame, but thompson doesn't exactly hate games, he just thinks that without themhtere would be less of [insert crime here].  In that respect, he's a bit like governments that ban guns, eg UK.  The thing is, he really doesn't seem to get what you said.  I will therefore repeat it. A GAME IS NOT A GUN.  And anyway, there are legitimate and morally defensible uses even for a gun.  Just not very many of them.

Correction to what I just said.  JT appears not to think that a game is the same as a gun, but that it is "just like a gun, only MORE SO".  After all, you don't see him going after a massive proportion of the US public because they own firearms, do you?  Not only that, but there's a wide variety of games and guns (bigger of games, in some ways), and some are much worse than others.  People say Jacky-boy-John B T needs medical help.  All he really needs is to GET A CLUE.

Sorry for going on and on about games and guns, but I saw a useful example/metaphor so I used it.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I also find it ridiculous that anyone should try to use religious beliefs in that sort of a way.  Since anyone can make up their own religion if they want to (I did it a few years ago, still working on it), you could justify anything at all for religious reasons.  It's quite possible that JT doesn't even hold most of the core beliefs of Christianity, and simply uses them to justify his own twisted actions.  Then again, considering his comments about Islam, he's probably one of the worst kind of fundamentalist, that have twisted their religion beyond all semblance of what it was originally about.

Re: Funniest Thing You Will Read Today: Classic Jack Thompson

I'm all for freedom of ttnet vitamin speech and allowing rent a car game makers to put whatever they want in games, but there's one thing about this app that has me scratching my head.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from araç kiralama the previous article araba kiralama on this I gathered that players can use Google maps in-game to find the other (real-life?) dealers in their area.  If this is the case, has travesti anyone considered what's stopping someone from using this app to actually move drugs between hands for reals?

But majority araba kiralama of their outrage araç kiralama stems from what it could DO TO children, not the content itself.  Talk to one of these people and you'll find they don't think any books kiralık araba should be banned from children.  Mention American Psycho and they talk about kiralık araç the redeeming value of using imagination to construct a story.  Reading, no matter what the content, is largely viewed as a consequenceless activity for people of any age.  The reason why I mention American Psycho is because of the content itself.  Gaming never has and likely never will have any scenes where someone has sex with a severed head.  Not gonna happen.  Yet despite this, they'll fight tooth and nail to protect their children from two boys kissing in Bully but whatever they read is harmless... yeah.

The entire arguement is kiralık oto based upon a social normality inflicted by luddites who can't figure out the controls for Halo so it's frightening and terrifying and obviously the cause of youth violence on the rise even though, in reality, it's in decline (which is actually a HUGE suprise given minibüs kiralama the economies status).  In  a perfect world, we would have parents that actually parent.  The idea of sales restrictions on media on oto kiralama any form to accomidate parental unwillingness to get involved with their child's life is the real problem to me.  Here I am, 32 years old, and being held up at a self-scan rent a car needing to show ID before I can buy a $10 M rated game all because Soccer Momthra can't be bothered to look at the crap Billy Genericallystupidson does in his free time.  It's too hard for her, so I have to suffer?
