The campaign of Republican presidential contender John McCain has taken an oddly-worded, RPG-themed shot at supporters of Barack Obama who questioned a story the former P.O.W. told during a weekend forum at high-profile pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church.

During a presidential forum at Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church on Saturday, McCain told a story of a guard who wordlessly drew a cross in the dirt one Christmas, describing it as a moment that gave him strength.
Critics in the blogosphere said that McCain, who was released in 1973, had not mentioned the incident until shortly before his 2000 presidential bid... They also pointed to similarities between McCain’s account and a similar story in Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s The Gulag Archipelago, his account of life in the Soviet labor camp system.
McCain aide Michael Goldfarb, in a message posted on the campaign’s Web site Monday [wrote] “It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman's memory of war from the comfort of mom's basement, but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others...”

Not JT, but I'll go ahead and adress what you say.
1: The Al Queda do not produce games. They're the Al Queda. They produce BOMBS. Also, some people may want their kids to be able to kill the Al Queda should they launch an assault on the US (thought I'd throw that in since you were touching on that).
2:"Teach your kids to shoot hoops, not people". Sure. Good plan. We should not teach "our" kids to kill people. However, they will learn HOW to kill people no matter what. Hell, they could take their basketball knowledge and replace that ball with a heavy rock, and replace the hoop with a persons head. They could take their historical knowledge (ban history books!) and use it to hurt people. However, a person knowing how to commit acts of violence and comitting acts of violence are two different things. Martial arts training can teach kids HOW to whoop ass, but not TO whoop ass. Knowledge isn't the problem, it's the misuse of knowledge. Again, they will learn to kill and hurt people no matter what, so instead of trying to whipe out anything that they could learn it from, try taking away the need to use it.
3:The "Barrack 'Hussein' Obama" remark is just rediculous. His father was a Muslim through most of his life (Obama has always been Christian), and as such gave him a middle name of Muslim descent. That does not make him a member of a terror cell or an ally of the very dead Saddam Hussein. A middle name is not a proper indacator of allegiances.
4:"Murder simulators", as usual, is a very ill suited nickname. An interactive character is not a full blown simulation. For it to be a simulator, there would need to be weapon heft and over heating, reloading devices, and ellaborate "sensation suit" that would allow the player to register attacks through pain, and also full range of motion controlled through realistic physical motion. Not even the Wii (which you neglect to mention) comes close to this.

Granted, this remark was attributed to one of McCain's staffers, but it's still going to hurt him and lose any chances of getting the "Geek Vote" (however significant or insignificant that may be). It's at least going to turn away otherwise more open-minded people who, let's face it, do count D&D players and gamers among their ranks.
As for me personally, ok, Obama admitted the last video game he played was Pong. So he's not that much in touch with the current state of gaming today. But with this latest remark, it shows that Obama is slightly more in touch than McCain, whose people seem to have a bias if not an out-and-out prejudice against that type of thing. That said, I still like and would vote for Obama. McCain has expressed his stances on a lot of things that I disagree with, but this pretty much is the little butterfly that settles on top of all the heavy junk that's already piled-up that causes it to all come crashing down.

The point is not the D&D, the point is to accuse Obama's followers of the sins of McCain's followers. This is a Rove tactic from way back, accuse your opponent of what you have done. Then, when your opponent says the truth about you (in this case, that so many of McCain vocal supporters are Chicken Hawks) the press covers both stories equally.

That's why my house rules are all rule disputes will be handled at the END of the gaming night and appropriate changes made afterwards. Most of the time, rule lawyers are petty and just want that extra couple points of damage, as long as they win in the end and you powder them with flavor text, most of the complaints go away.

It's probably an honest mistake. Memory is weird: it's common for the mind to sort of 'misfile' stuff that a person has read in a book, recalling it as an actual memory of stuff that's happened to the person.

I'm still not voting for McCain, even though I did play D&D in high school many moons ago, and still respect the concept...doesn't mean I am voting for Obama, though, since BOTH McCain and Obama support their corporate masters (like the MPAA/RIAA) and NOT the needs of general US Citizens first.
