NY Post: EA & T2 Trash Talk Despite End to Hostile Bid

As GamePolitics reported yesterday, EA may have called a cease-fire in its hostile bid to absorb Take-Two Interactive. That development, however, does not mean that the two game publishers are ready to share a hug.
The New York Post reports on snarky (and anonymous) barbs traded between EA and T2:
"To say that EA blinked is a huge understatement," said one source close to the Take-Two camp. "They finally came to their senses and realized this wasn't going to be done their way."
A source close to EA countered by suggesting that the company was miffed that it had to make the first overture to Take-Two. The source added that EA officials don't want to negotiate with Take-Two's current management team.
The Post also reports that, while the FTC is expected to bless the proposed merger, it will insist that Take-Two spin off some of its sports franchises, so as not to give EA a complete monopoly on sports games:
Though a deal would combine two of the world's largest video-game publishers, the Federal Trade Commission is expected to give the go-ahead to a potential combination by Thursday on the condition that it divest one or more of its sports gaming franchises, with basketball or hockey being the most likely.

Andrew Eisen: Val - But they did get something and that's better than nothing. Also, the Freedom Concert site is clear that expenses are subtracted from the donated amount so while it’s not fraud (from what little I’ve seen) it is pretty crummy.

Finally, EA got the point.
If T2 is going to go ahead with the merger, they should still divest all of their sports titles in order to keep competition within the sports genre. If that can be done, then I won't mind the merger as much, no matter how much I hate EA. And I know EA is behind that KOTOR, MMO bull sh** regardless of what anybody says!! KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF BIOWARE YOU BASTARDS!!!!

Miffed they had to make the first overture? Take Two's their direct competitor, if EA wanted to buy them out, of course they'd have to make their first move. Competitors generally don't ask to be bought out by their rivals unless they're about to die, and Take Two's nowhere near death.

Interesting that the merger might require the spin-off of T2's sports franchises... honestly, given the turnaround by EA of late with regard to their publisher-developer relationships, that was my biggest issue with the potential merger.

Hey if you are reading this JT, why don't go after some other games other than GTA. Maybe because other games aren't that popular. Here's a tip, go after the Metal Gear Solid Series as it has playboy in it. Didn't you know that? a game that kids play has Playboy in it that you can look at in the game. (I just wanna see him attack MGS and see how the rabid MGS loyal respond to JT's attack on the great series.)

Please, don't try to get Thompson to latch onto MGS. The last time him and that series clashed was brief, yet horrible. Besides, I don't think his attacks on it would get him very far. I mean, yeah you can kill people in the game, but it encourages you to leave guards unharmed instead. Not to mention the fact that the major theme of the series is pacifism.

See what you guys did. You start mentioning JT and one of his minions will always manage to enter the room. Every project will have imperfections to some point if the leader is imperfect. Raising a child is a project and if you don't raise the child right that child will have problems in life. If you DO raise a child right and he or she decides to play GTA or Manhunt, Saints Row, Mortal Kombat ect..., that kid is NOT going to go outside and shoot someone or try to pull out someones spine because a GAME told them too. The problems start with the parents and always will. And I'm sick of all of this child garbage anyway. The average age range of gamers today is between the ages of 25 and 35 (I being 28) and the reason is because those children that everone keeps talking about started in the early 80's and are still gaming today. That's why they're so many "M" rated games out now, not because they're made for the children of today, but because they're made for the "children" of the late 70's and 80's.

EA and T2 need to either finalize this or give it up. This constant back-and-forth is just as bad as the presidential election.
