Utah's KSL-5 reports that a 27-year-old man who led state police on a 100 MPH chase before causing a fiery accident said that such risky driving had always worked for him in video games.
Daniel Savino survived the crash with just a bad case of road rash but now faces a laundry list of criminal charges:
As for motive, Savino told troopers this was his own video game adventure.
"I don't know whether he was trying to act out a scene in a video game or what he was trying to do, but he said it always worked for him in video games," Roden said.

"COME ON! What happened to the good ol' insanity defence??"
It didn't work. It's used in less than 1 percent of cases, and it works approximately 1% of the time when used. That's 0.01% of the time someone gets off by saying "The Devil made me do it". "Video games made me do it" will receive similar treatment eventually.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
That's what the forehead laser is there for - to protect the control medal!
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
I can just imagine...
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be—"
"GUYVERRRRRR!"
That would be so damn awesome.

I don't believe that guy

Flying always worked for Superman, so, hmmmm....
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
okay, I miss Road Rash for the sega just as much as the next guy and I own a motorbike, but there is no way in hell I'd be riding that fast with so many cars on the road.

What a stupid motorcyclist, and veryy lucky
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
And you have problems with my personal belief that everyone on earth is an idiot? Because I'm not seeing proof to the contrary.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
You know, I'm really curious about if he ever took a physics class, and if so, just how well he did in it.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
And before you say something Mr. Thompson, he was 27.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
That doesn't mean much, its pretty obvious from his rantings that hes not just trying to keep these games out of the hands of kids. He hates games like GTA and thinks no one should be able to make or play them.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Can we get a psych eval? Because if he thinks this works in real life because it works in a video game... I would imagine he has problems with the rest of reality as well.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
"I can fly like Superman! Weeeeeeee..." *thump*
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
It's been my experience that a lot of thigs work in video games, but few of them work out in real life. From the sound of this news story, this guy didn't even have a reason to racing around at 100 mph. And since he wasn't even smart enough to wear a shirt or helmet on his little adventure, I think the courts should have no problem proving that he's an idiot.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Saw this on the news late last night and I knew I'd be seeing it here in the morning.
I hope they rip this guy a new one in court. At the very least, the reporters covering the story last night seemed to think the notion as ridiculous as we all know it is.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
At least I feel that reporting itself was fair. It's not like they told any lies, or presented in a way that video games are corrupting the youth.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Yeah. They showed more concern for the mom and kids, then laid out basic facts, ran the video, then they mention video games in the light "whatever worked for him in video games didn't work in real life." You can't get much more balanced than that.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Yeah...., I still manage to heave every time Fox (Faux) news call themselves "fair and balanced".

The the driver of the morotcycle I say this:
*Clears Throat*
YOU MORON!!!
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
How about if I got in my minivan and begin throwing turtle shells and banana peels and blamed my actions on Mario Kart? *SARCASM*
People, stop with the blaming games defense. It didn't work then and it's not ever going to work.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
"but he said it always worked for him in video games,"
does anybody think perhaps this could just be a wise guy, who just said that as a sarcastic flippant comment?
I mean come on, somebody who does all that stuff is hardly an upstanding moral citizen with a great personality.
I just think if cops asked him 'what the hell were you thinking?' and THAT was his response, that i wouldnt take it as actual motive, id just think the guy didnt feel responsible or take it seriously, n was just avoiding answering the real question.
*sigh* cue JT on here any minute
oh i mean forgetting that fact hes 27, thats still a kid to JT
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. We've all said similar things to write off our own mistakes, and when you're busted with this much intensity there's not much more you can do than make a joke at your own expense.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Yeah definetely done that before,
I Remember one time my friend cut his hand in the kitchen , making a sandwich, and when somebody strangely asked 'why the heck did you not watch what you were doing' he was like , 'oh we were all out of salami, so y'know i had to eat something'
It was needless to say, a flippant comment making a joke at himself. Unfortunately nowadays the papers would write 'MAN CUTS OFF HAND TO EAT SELF IN CANNABALISTIC RITUAL' and quote him as saying that.
its so dumb!
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Hmm, now that you mention it, him being flippant is indeed a viable possiblity. An injured, pissed off person isn't going to be all that inclined to give a serious reasoned response. Particularly in response to someone asking him why he did what he did.

Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Ya know what -I- smell (if I COULD smell)?
Scam.
Copycating video games? Nope.
More like Copycatting the "blame game" excuse.
"Hey! Look! Other people are blaming bad behavior on video games! And, hey, look! Someone is even planning on putting up a website that will give me a How-To on blaming video games and other media! Cool! I don't have to be responsible for ANY of my actions!"
I could also see this as the actions of some supporters of Anti-video-game and Anti-media-we-don't-like to try to pad the so-called statistics justifying their false claims that video games are to blame.
While the second one is a pretty weird conspiracy theory (though I really wouldn't dismiss the actions of such sociopaths who tend to be the majority of such groups), I'd think the first one would be a greater possibility.

God, why can't they just lay off that excuse already!
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
That's probably because they want a scapegoat for their problems and they don't like video games and gamers very much.

Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Jack Thompson would blame world war 2 on Call of Duty if he could, lets not lend any fuel to his pathetic fire and just not talk about him here, as soon as he is mentioned his heart starts racing and he spends a few days putting together a load of bile which he thinks is the most witty comment ever and those words alone will take down the videogame industry (which we are all part of mind you) and then goes away convinced that he has destroyed our morale completely and totally.
Or making us feel threatened with falsified court reports, letters and other things making it sound like he is rubbing shoulders with higher ups, he is the equivalent of the man who rings his own phone when he is out with his mates and says, "what no CANCEL the stocks meeting! I have to go see the head of ford motor company in an hour!"
That's all that should be said of Thompson now, he is a pathetic old man with no existence outside of this website and his worthless attacks on the videogame industry. Right now all that seems to be keeping him going is his own hatred and unwavering belief that he is right, even when faced with enough evidence to put the prime minister away for incompetence were it he who was saying these things.
On the subject of the crash, I think it is a sad situation, people should not be acting like this in any situation, and to blame it on entertainment media is cowardly and wrong, but people will do what people will do.

Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
In other news I just signed a $10 million contract over the next three years with the Ottawa Senators. I showed them how good I was at NHL 08. It's been a few years since I've been on skates but that shouldn't matter.
Re: Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games
Y'all are a bunch of pansies! I'm an unstoppable force in the assassin world, cruising around in my kickass motorcycle (which I named Schpeltiger), busting through different locales, dressed up like a badass punk rocker otaku, and slicing a whole bunch of people up into tiny chunks with my Beam Katana, making them shoot blood out of their openings like blood-filled fire hydrants. When I kill enough, I gain superpowers that enable me to kill more guys in more gruesome-yet-awesome ways. And when the job is done, I get huge mounds of cash so I can buy more clothes, Beam Katanas, and a whole bunch of otaku crap.
All thanks to No More Heroes. I owe my life to Suda 51. Thanks, man; you're the best!

I'm now an ultra-powerul Super Ninja after playing Ninja Gaiden 2. I've also gained resistance to bullets, explosions, and can block nuclear explosions. I can summon fireballs, phoenixes, make blades out of wind, and create and control a miniature black hole. I'm pretty much unstoppable.
