Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

August 27, 2008

Kotaku reports that Microsoft and the Xbox 360 are waving the video game flag at this week's Democratic National Convention.

Denver-based Kotaku EIC Brian Crecente popped over to the DNC and discovered that Microsoft lobbyists had set up a booth featuring 360s running MLB2K8 during Tuesday's events at Coors Field. Exec Fred Humphries told Crecente:

Where better to talk about families and games then in the living room. We're here to highlight the family settings for the Xbox 360 and talk about ratings. Education is so important when it comes to the Xbox. We are here to tell people about Play Smart, Play Safe... We fully support parents talking to kids.

MS will be making a similar appearance at the upcoming Republican National Convention. As GamePolitics reported last week, Microsoft is partnering with Rock the Vote to help drive voter registration through Xbox Live.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Thanks good job;

Btw, I think Atari and Midway will drop out too, but mostly travesti because  these guys have done nothing travesti or little and need to start saving costs. and dizi izle

YES.

Now I don't have to get off my ass for the important shit anymore!

Whats next, ordering pizza from Xbox live?

Wait... I think that sounds like a good idea.

But I think voting should MAKE you get off your ass, and see outside or a second while you go vote. I mean, your picking the president of the United States of America for God's Sake... least you can do is drive down there and punch out a card.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

I'm all for freedom of ttnet vitamin speech and allowing rent a car game makers to put whatever they want in games, but there's one thing about this app that has me scratching my head.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from araç kiralama the previous article araba kiralama on this I gathered that players can use Google maps in-game to find the other (real-life?) dealers in their area.  If this is the case, has travesti anyone considered what's stopping someone from using this app to actually move drugs between hands for reals?

But majority araba kiralama of their outrage araç kiralama stems from what it could DO TO children, not the content itself.  Talk to one of these people and you'll find they don't think any books kiralık araba should be banned from children.  Mention American Psycho and they talk about kiralık araç the redeeming value of using imagination to construct a story.  Reading, no matter what the content, is largely viewed as a consequenceless activity for people of any age.  The reason why I mention American Psycho is because of the content itself.  Gaming never has and likely never will have any scenes where someone has sex with a severed head.  Not gonna happen.  Yet despite this, they'll fight tooth and nail to protect their children from two boys kissing in Bully but whatever they read is harmless... yeah.

The entire arguement is kiralık oto based upon a social normality inflicted by luddites who can't figure out the controls for Halo so it's frightening and terrifying and obviously the cause of youth violence on the rise even though, in reality, it's in decline (which is actually a HUGE suprise given minibüs kiralama the economies status).  In  a perfect world, we would have parents that actually parent.  The idea of sales restrictions on media on oto kiralama any form to accomidate parental unwillingness to get involved with their child's life is the real problem to me.  Here I am, 32 years old, and being held up at a self-scan rent a car needing to show ID before I can buy a $10 M rated game all because Soccer Momthra can't be bothered to look at the crap Billy Genericallystupidson does in his free time.  It's too hard for her, so I have to suffer?

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Show a whole veriaty of games from the XBOX 360. Show M rated games like GTA 4 and Halo 3 so these politicians will know what these Violent Videogames REALLY do and not just say that they are bad because they are violent. Show them the T rated games like Final Fantasy 13 and Infinate Undiscovery that allow people to experience RPGs that involve deep reading and turn based battles and adventure. Show them the E rated games, anythiing with those XBox Mii's and even some of the best RARE games like Banjo-Kazooie, Kameo and also Viva Pinata just so these politicians can understand the Videogames are for EVERYONE no matter how young or old you are. Ages 5 to 105 and all different ages and tastes and even highlight the Videogame rating systems like the ESRB and the Parental Controls are FAR MORE IMPORTANT than just elections. THIS is IMPORTANT for all parents who have been wanting to know more about Videogames but just can't find the right way to get to know them.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Nifty!  I hope they had a copy of Viva Pinata in there, I remember how much I enjoyed playing that at the 2006 GDC.  It's such a bright, colorful, friendly game.

I do agree that it is also important to show more violent yet story driven games.  Maybe they could run just some video of the latest GTA.  It would be great to have a monitor set up showing just the in game TV shows and commercials from the game, possibly with a little placard explaining that the game is meant as a parody of modern American culture (just for those who might not get it).

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Like easy facts that's easer to find than cheap gas this will go ignored.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Good to see at least someone trying to make an impact with politics in terms of gaming.  At least on the pro-gaming platform.  Wish Nintendo or Sony would do the same thing, though maybe being Japan-based companies has something to do with it.

And I agree with odc04r, it'd be nice if the ESA was doing something like this rather than gearing up to chase the pirates over imagined sales loss.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

This is definitely good to see.  Personally, I think they SHOULD show a game like GTAIV, Halo 3 etc.  Just to show how ridiculous any of the charges should be.

Hell Microsoft should offer a $20 million dollar donation to the first of the two campaigns (McCain or Obama) who can find the "rape" scene in GTA IV we've been hearing so much about.  You know THAT would get them playing.

Them putting in Halo 3 would be hilarious. I can just see them attempting to play it multiplayer, and chuckling at their own lack of skill due not have played any videogames except old arcade games. Would go a long way towards taking the wind out of the whole "The M rated games are the evil!"

the very few have...

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Best.  Idea.  Ever.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

No it should be a $21 million donation 7 million from Microsoft 7 from Rockstar and 7 from Sony.

But 20 million all form one person is fine too. It reminds me of the $1 million dollar psychich challenge (prove that you're a psychic using an agreed upon scientific study and you get a million dollars, it's been up for years and no one has claimed it).

Perhaps they'll complain that they changed the game for the convention.

Either way we HAVE to get Hillary to play, you just know she'll be there.

---------------------------------------------------- Debates are like merry go rounds. Two people take their positions then they go through the same points over and over and over again. Then when it's over they have the same positions they started in.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

I am in support of this...  Maybe $7 million from gamers as well to get them off of our back for at least 4 years if they can't find it too.  If they cut taxes in relation to less money being spent on wasted court time, we would get all of our money back, easily.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

I'm sure the ESA stand is just around the corner, if they can spare anyone from fighting those darn lootin' pirates.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Quick!  Someone switch in GTA4 and see how many politicians play it ;)

Sortableturnip's Law: As an online discussion of video game violence grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Jack Thompson approaches 1

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

You will see McCain on it if you change the characters and environment to Iran, then he will call it a great training program.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Lobbying at the Democratic Convention?! Never!

Seriously though, I like to see this kind of thing. Somebody has got to look out for the interest of video games not only as a business, but as a mode of expression. We've been finding more and more allies in both the republican and democratic sectors and hopefully that will continue. Good for them.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

At least a company with a vested large interest in gaming is finally attempting to educate the unwashed masses that is the US government.

Re: Xbox 360 at Democratic Convention

Now how about the uneducated masses across the US cant cant even figure out ESRB... (or are stupid enough to have a problem with Mass Effect...  [or worse the people who watch the news and never look into it themselves...  {~cough~Hillary Clinton Supporters~cough~}])
