Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

September 3, 2008

The real Berlin Wall came down in 1989, but Half-Life 2 owners can check out a virtual recreation thanks to an awesome-looking Berlin Wall map which has been posted on the Garry's Mod site.

An explanation accompanies the download:

The anticipated BerlinWall map has been released. The map offers singleplayer experience from the view of an East German citizen, dreaming of living in the West Germany. The gameplay in the map is non-linear, you can take many paths to west. Also, avoid making mistakes, they can be deadly, and remember to check everywhere for some sort of weapons.

The map works the best in Half-Life 2: Episode Two, but like common Source-based maps, it also works in Garry's Mod. Not offering the best gameplay experience in it, but works great for posing and comics.

GamePolitics reader Michael Jürges tipped us to the map. He writes in an e-mail to GP:

Although I haven't had the opportunity to play the map yet, the mapping seems, judging from the screenshots, pretty accurate (I'm German myself and I've been to this part of Berlin as well). Personally, I think this might be quite a good idea - reenacting historical settings and immerge oneself into this virtual environment can, perhaps, contribute to a better understanding about what the people who had to endure these challenges in order to escape from the East German regime felt like.

GP: This is something I'd love to check out, so I guess it's time to re-install HL2.

This is pretty incredible, I saw the actual wall come down in '89 and it was amazing. There are only markers left on the ground where the wall stood now, and they don't really convey what a landmark it used to be. In that regard a sim is an excellent tool for teaching and remembering the what a potent symbol the wall was of the East-West divide. (and oppression of course.)

Gift.

Spiff. I'll download it later.

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

Wow.  I am offended.  GP, you've uninstalled Half Life 2?  With hard drive space so cheap these days there's no reason not to keep HL2 installed.

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

I love real-world maps

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

Woah, that's fantastic.  I was 5 when the wall came down, but I don't remember seeing it on TV or anything.  This should be a multiplayer co-op map so that gamers can get together and recreate the tearing-down -- and Valve provides the crowbars. ;D

Noob question. I downloaded the map and extracted it into the correct directory, but am unsure on how to start it. Someone mind helping me out?

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

In hl2, open your console and type "map mapname.bsp", should run it if i recall.

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

I've thought of trying to do a map of O'Connel (Sackville) St. during the Easter rising, but I'm only an amature with G-mod and I can never find the time.

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

You mean hammer. ;)

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

Seriously Dennis, why would you uninstall Half Life 2? Anyway, glad to see there are G-Mod players here!!!

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

From playing this, I have learned that there was no excuse for an East Berliner to not simply run to freedom. I can make it safely to West Berlin with a solid 64 health.

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

I'm all for freedom of ttnet vitamin speech and allowing rent a car game makers to put whatever they want in games, but there's one thing about this app that has me scratching my head.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from araç kiralama the previous article araba kiralama on this I gathered that players can use Google maps in-game to find the other (real-life?) dealers in their area.  If this is the case, has travesti anyone considered what's stopping someone from using this app to actually move drugs between hands for reals?

But majority araba kiralama of their outrage araç kiralama stems from what it could DO TO children, not the content itself.  Talk to one of these people and you'll find they don't think any books kiralık araba should be banned from children.  Mention American Psycho and they talk about kiralık araç the redeeming value of using imagination to construct a story.  Reading, no matter what the content, is largely viewed as a consequenceless activity for people of any age.  The reason why I mention American Psycho is because of the content itself.  Gaming never has and likely never will have any scenes where someone has sex with a severed head.  Not gonna happen.  Yet despite this, they'll fight tooth and nail to protect their children from two boys kissing in Bully but whatever they read is harmless... yeah.

The entire arguement is kiralık oto based upon a social normality inflicted by luddites who can't figure out the controls for Halo so it's frightening and terrifying and obviously the cause of youth violence on the rise even though, in reality, it's in decline (which is actually a HUGE suprise given minibüs kiralama the economies status).  In  a perfect world, we would have parents that actually parent.  The idea of sales restrictions on media on oto kiralama any form to accomidate parental unwillingness to get involved with their child's life is the real problem to me.  Here I am, 32 years old, and being held up at a self-scan rent a car needing to show ID before I can buy a $10 M rated game all because Soccer Momthra can't be bothered to look at the crap Billy Genericallystupidson does in his free time.  It's too hard for her, so I have to suffer?

Re: Berlin Wall Map Offered for Garry's Mod (Half-Life 2)

Thanks good job;

Btw, I think Atari and Midway will drop out too, but mostly travesti because  these guys have done nothing travesti or little and need to start saving costs. and dizi izle

YES.

Now I don't have to get off my ass for the important shit anymore!

Whats next, ordering pizza from Xbox live?

Wait... I think that sounds like a good idea.

But I think voting should MAKE you get off your ass, and see outside or a second while you go vote. I mean, your picking the president of the United States of America for God's Sake... least you can do is drive down there and punch out a card.
