Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

September 3, 2008 -

Famed Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto (#73) and Activision Blizzard Chairman Bobby Kotick (#72) are the only two video game luminaries to make the Vanity Fair 100, writes Newsweek's N'Gai Croal:

[Miyamoto & Kotick's] respective rankings...sandwiched between architect William McDonough and the aforementioned cybergossip Matt Drudge--are a full 40 spots below where [former CEO Larry] Probst and Electronic Arts placed just a few years ago. (For what it's worth, EA CEO John Riccitiello did not make the list, which may provide more incentive to close that deal with Take-Two.)

And this despite the videogame industry tracking to record revenues for the year. We're not sure what the solution is--it's difficult to picture Vanity Fair's silver-haired editor Graydon Carter raiding in WoW, rocking out with Guitar Hero or working out to Wii Fit--but videogame's top talents can't outrank on-their-last-legs performers like Robert De Niro (#59) and Mick Jagger (#61), something's rotten at [deal-making restaurant] Michael's.

GP: On the other hand, Sony's Howard Stringer (#39) and Bono (#36), who owns a piece of Pandemic (Mercenaries 2) are also on the list. True, games may not be their primary focus, but still...

At #2 is Rupert Murdoch who owns the game-hatin' Fox News.

Thanks good job;

Btw, I think Atari and Midway will drop out too, but mostly travesti because  these guys have done nothing travesti or little and need to start saving costs. and dizi izle

YES.

Now I don't have to get off my ass for the important shit anymore!

Whats next, ordering pizza from Xbox live?

Wait... I think that sounds like a good idea.

But I think voting should MAKE you get off your ass, and see outside or a second while you go vote. I mean, your picking the president of the United States of America for God's Sake... least you can do is drive down there and punch out a card.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

I'm all for freedom of ttnet vitamin speech and allowing rent a car game makers to put whatever they want in games, but there's one thing about this app that has me scratching my head.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from araç kiralama the previous article araba kiralama on this I gathered that players can use Google maps in-game to find the other (real-life?) dealers in their area.  If this is the case, has travesti anyone considered what's stopping someone from using this app to actually move drugs between hands for reals?

But majority araba kiralama of their outrage araç kiralama stems from what it could DO TO children, not the content itself.  Talk to one of these people and you'll find they don't think any books kiralık araba should be banned from children.  Mention American Psycho and they talk about kiralık araç the redeeming value of using imagination to construct a story.  Reading, no matter what the content, is largely viewed as a consequenceless activity for people of any age.  The reason why I mention American Psycho is because of the content itself.  Gaming never has and likely never will have any scenes where someone has sex with a severed head.  Not gonna happen.  Yet despite this, they'll fight tooth and nail to protect their children from two boys kissing in Bully but whatever they read is harmless... yeah.

The entire arguement is kiralık oto based upon a social normality inflicted by luddites who can't figure out the controls for Halo so it's frightening and terrifying and obviously the cause of youth violence on the rise even though, in reality, it's in decline (which is actually a HUGE suprise given minibüs kiralama the economies status).  In  a perfect world, we would have parents that actually parent.  The idea of sales restrictions on media on oto kiralama any form to accomidate parental unwillingness to get involved with their child's life is the real problem to me.  Here I am, 32 years old, and being held up at a self-scan rent a car needing to show ID before I can buy a $10 M rated game all because Soccer Momthra can't be bothered to look at the crap Billy Genericallystupidson does in his free time.  It's too hard for her, so I have to suffer?

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

I think Rupert Murdoch and Newscorp also has a stake in the CGS.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

If there wasn't Shigeru Miyamoto, then there wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar business and the biggest new form of entertainment since the television.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

I think it's also important to note that Rupert Murdoch and Newscorp also own IGN.com.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

And here's the link for validation: http://corp.ign.com/

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

Yeah but that doesn't fit with what Dennis wasn't to get across. >_>

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

Pushing an agenda, you're doing it WRONG!

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

Meh. Vanity Fair is simply the entertainment form of the Times: old, out of touch and afraid it's going the way of the dinosaurs. Has anyone even looked at the bios? Almost all of the columnists and editors are at the point of retirement and see media that hasn't grown old with them as borderline evil. It's no surprise that new forms of entertainment are not being treated well by them.

Not even worth being concerned about.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

I'm with a few others here. Why do we care what Vanity Fair says? I've never seen the magazine. It isn't a blip on the radar. Time magazine, I know. I've seen. I've picked up. I know other people who know it. One of their polls put Miyamoto somewhere around... Number One I believe.

In short, just because a game hating magazine (look at their "reviews") has something bad to say about games, let's not give them air time they don't deserve. I rank them right up with JockJack137 on YouTube spouting how only nerds play games (made up name, just giving an example).

This is just a case of not justifying it with a response.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

How does Bono keep getting on these lists?  He's an idiot and an asshole, and the only thing he's done lately is grandstand in a live performance of the Ballad of Ronnie Drew, which was actually written more by SHANE MACGOWAN than by Bono.

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

I still don't understand why vanity fair is so important... maybe I'm just to poor nya...

Re: Game Biz Types Fare Poorly in Vanity Fair 100

If I had his wages, I honestly wouldn't care what Vanity Fair thought of me ;)
