This picture just showed up in an e-mail from Jack Thompson.

There was no explanation, other than the subject line:

First feeder bands from Hurricane Ike hit Miami!

Color me confused. Is the man growing a sense of humor? Learning PhotoShop?

Maybe it's symbolism: the pole represents his law license. The hurricane is the Florida Bar and he's trying to hang on...

UPDATE: So it appears that Thompson may be preparing for a second career (you never know when you might need one of those)... as a weatherman.

In a followup e-mail Thompson claims that US news organizations are underreporting the upcoming Hurricane Ike because it's not as sexy as the recent Gustav, which threatened both New Orleans and the Republican National Convention. Even his BFFs at Fox are guilty, says Thompson (now is that any way to get air time?).

Call me crazy, but I think Jack should pursue a career in comedy. He has a natural nack for it to me, even if he's not really trying, cause it has often made me laugh about how serious he is about something. He can say absolutely ANYTHING with a straight face, it seems.

I think his second career might be worse than his current. No... not a weatherman but politics. I mean if he gets disbarred how could he possibly still give video games some grief? Politics.

It isn't that odd of an idea either. Jack Kevorkian is running for congress as an Independent in Michigan's 9th district.

What's Jack Thompson Talking About?

According to GP's story:

"...Thompson claims that US news organizations are underreporting the upcoming Hurricane Ike..."

So, what's Jack Thompson talking about?

Unfortunately, I have no idea. I haven't seen Thompson's press release so if he has a specific grievance beyond "it's underreported" I don't know what it is.

What I do know is that Hurricane Ike is all over the news and has feature stories at:

-National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

-The Weather Channel

-Fox News

-Reuters

-CNN

Hell, the Miami Herald has had a weather map with oodles of info on its front page all day. So, it's not like it's not being reported. But is it being under reported? Let's do a Google search:

Hurricane Ike: 841,000 hits

Hurricane Gustav: 11,000,000 hits

Okay, so Gustav has certainly garnered more ink. Is it a conspiracy, news reporters playing favorites, or is it because Gustav has:

-been around a week longer

-made landfall five days ago

-killed 120 people

Gustav was also a category 4 storm when it hit land and could have picked up speed instead of dying out. It made a fair bit of air time this side of the Atlantic too as we were waiting to see if it was going to be as devastating as Katrina and if so how Bush was gonna handle THIS one.

I know what to make of it, I think we NOW need to stop covering a certain someone unless it is actually news-worthy.

Now, I am not complaing about the amount of stories, and I know GP has very little coverage of such as of late, but I do think this site doesn't need any stories about what this nutcase does in their spare time. Maybe just post it in the forum thread most of us ignore...

Speaking of hurricanes, has he gotten a clue that people and government brances like the courts have other things to do then to return his threatening calls/spams/faxes/etc before/during/after such?

For a minute there, I thought he might have had us going. Just kinda screwing with us for the fun of it; but this "politics of weather" stuff smells faintly like something he would actually do. I have to wonder about the conceit of a guy that drops "press releases" on a personal whim. Imagine if everyone could do that, "restaurant ran out of coke, only pepsi, film at 11!"
