Creationist Site Targets Spore

September 10, 2008 -

Who knew that Spore would be so controversial?

First there was the DRM madness that has enraged so many gamers. Now an apparent creationist site refers to Will Wright's long-awaited game an "attack on Christian values."

Anti-Spore (there is some speculation that the site is a hoax) went live just a day after Spore's September 7th release. The site's opening post sums up its focus:

Yesterday I found out about a new game called Spore when my son asked me to buy it for him.  It looked innocent enough at first and has “E for Everyone” ESRB rating.  But don’t be mislead, apparently “everyone” means everyone they want to teach evolution to.

This entire game is propaganda aimed directly at our children to teach them evolution instead of creationism, or “intelligent design” ...

I decided that Electronic Arts needs to hear from concerned people such as myself that this sort of game is not acceptable, and created this blog to find support and share information and progress with anyone who feels the same as I do.

Indeed, the domain name, which is private, was registered on September 8th. The anonymous author claims to be a wife and mother and writes that she has received hate mail and death threats over her Spore views.

The site also tosses in this small bit of politics:

I got a message from the supposed mayor of McCamish, KS [a suburb of Kansas City]. Claiming that he will make sure the game is kept out of their store. I have no way to verify the info, though.

Gallagher can araç kiralama say all he wants, but I strongly rent a car believe it's due to his crappy leadership and E3 being a joke. ESA's Board of Directors need to find a way to get out rent a car of this horrid contract with this Bush cronie before there's no one left on the Board.

Btw, I think Atari and Midway will drop out too, but mostly travesti because  these guys have done nothing ttnet vitamin or little and need to start saving costs.

YES.

Now I don't have to get off my ass for the important shit anymore!

Whats next, ordering pizza from Xbox live?

Wait... I think that sounds like a good idea.

But I think voting should MAKE you get off your ass, and see outside or a second while you go vote. I mean, your picking the president of the United States of America for God's Sake... least you can do is drive down there and punch out a card.

But the Bible teaches us that God was not done with man. For we were His creation and He then spoke to Noah in Genesis 8:21-27 after the flood.
“21. The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never gonna give you up.
22. “Never gonna let you down.”
23.”Never gonna run around and desert you.”
24. “Never gonna make you cry.”
25. “Never gonna say goodbye.”
26. “Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.”
27.”Never truly believe anything you read on the Internet. There will always be cases of Poe’s Law.”

Yeah, hoax. That's from the latest post on there.

Its a hoax. She Rick Rollled on her latest post.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Well, whoever wrote this probably didn't play the game. Although the game may claim to be about evolution, if you think about it, it really is intelligent design. You the player take the role of a god, guiding and designing a species.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

I wouldnt say that, ur species evolves in the game, u would make ur species in full form at the beginning if it were intelligent design. Of course I really wasnt surprised that some1 who opposed evolution in every form would try and ban the game

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Don't go to that website.

The guy is just using the blog to get money.

Think about it, Touchy topic, and a religious fanatic throws up a website? Fire and brimstone and the internet?

Don't fuel the fire, he's less of an idiot if he gets rich because tons of people come to his site.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

How can he make money from the site?  I thought that he only makes money if people click on the ads.

Using My Faith To Call This A

Hoax.   This guy went over the top when it came to the whole Creationist belife.    The whole site is B.S.  Why?  Because knowing my Chirstian people, we would had attaack this game a LONG time ago.

Man, I don't believe in evolution,  I believe in creation.  I believe that God created us all  but man, look I have the freakin' common sense to know that

EVOLUTION IS A THEORY!

Unlike these others so-call "Chirstians" who use their "faith" to attack others.  Morons.

Re: Using My Faith To Call This A

The International Scientific Summit of 2008 unanimously agreed to change:

Theory of Evolution

to

Law of Evolution

I thought that was common knowledge, anyways I do agree with you on the rest

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

What I found hilarious about the limited intelligence of the "Admin" of the site was the lack of actual research on their part.

Links feed the spam filter, but it's simple to go to Wikipedia.org and look up Will Wright.

The "Admin" claims how wonderful and lovely Will Wright was for creating SimCity.

Then they wimper and whine about the promotion of the theory of evolution like it's a unique idea, let alone a unique idea by Will Wright.

Ahem... notice Will Wright's Wikipedia page.

Ahem... SimEarth.

Ahem... SimLife (some might call it a type of "God" game, but it still involves evolution).

'Nuff said.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Spore isn't even a good representation of Evolution..

But I guess it doesn't stop some people from acting like 'tards.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

There are a lot of people here saying that creationism and intelligent design shouldn't be taught in public schools.  These people are all wrong.

It's important to see how ideas have evolved, from Earth being the center of the universe to Earth being in orbit, from the world being flat to the world being round, from the belief that rats were born from of bags of flour and flies from meat to the realization that that is just silly, and from creationism and intelligent design to evolution.  I'm not saying that I don't perceive the hand of God in evolution (I believe in God, and I believe he guides things from time to time).  I'm not dumb enough, however, to say that we shouldn't teach and debunk the old theories at young ages.  When I was young, we learned both, and our teacher started the first class on creationism with 'We're going to show the evolution of an idea, an idea explaining where we come from.'

Students need to know as many views of the world as they can get their hands on, or else they end up being as dumb as the people you can see in colleges today.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Not in science class it shouldn't be. In science, there is no ''too sides to the issue'', often one side is provably wrong, and the other demonstrably correct. There really isn't much debate on evoulution in legitimate scientific circles, and creationism is just provably wrong. When they write the history books on this period of american history, then it should e taught, or it could be discussed in a contemporary issues class, but not in the labratory.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

It should absolutely be taught in a science class to show the evolution of the idea.

Just like college-level criminology classes will still teach you biological theories (theories that state your genetic makeup influences criminality), then progress to newer and newer theories.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

You have to admit, though, that creationism should not be taught as a fact, not even as a "proposed" explanation, but rather as an idea used in ancient times to explain the appearance of living beings (more or less how we teach kids helenic civilizations believed lightning was thrown by Zeus to smite the wicked)

Anyways, creation made me laugh when I first heard of it (and my family isn't atheist)

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

I agree it should be taught as an outdated idea for the explanation of why we are here.  If parents want to teach their kids that that's the real story, they can do it at home.

As for Zeus smiting the wicked, remind to never ever stand near you.  He sees what you type, and he is angry.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

It's all right, Athena is my bitch

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Well mistaken hypotheses can be mentioned but only where directly relevant. Spontaneous generation of life for example could be touched upon briefly when teaching hygiene/sepsis and Pasteur's experiments. However, beyond a brief mention there is absolutely no need to teach creationism (in any form) in a science class.

Science classes should focus on teaching current understanding and not dilute that information by meandering through past mistakes. So long as students appreciate that scientific understanding can and does change over time there is no need to labour the point by discussing science history. After all where would you stop? For example, once there were several competing ideas of atomic structure, why on earth should we devote more than a brief mention to the "plum pudding" model of an atom?

In short, if people think this stuff needs to be taught it needs to go in the history or religion classes where it belongs. There's no need to dilute science curricula when other forums covering religion and history already exist.

Gift.

Ya know, if its a hoax it is funny, if its not, Its still funny.   And ofcourse always remember, Reality is stranger then fiction.

The site does seem crazy enough to be a hoax.

HOWEVER.  Jack Chick's comics are crazy enough to be a hoax...and those are the real deal.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

So much fail on that site, it's ridiculous. Especially the "Proof EA is converting children to believe in evolution," if only for the fact that Thompson uses similar assertions of proof based off of one singular incident they could find.

The only redeeming quality is the edit of the Thompson inquiry.

To the anymous bastard who just posted his anti-religious rap song, your ten kinds of an idiot(unless your joking, I can't tell).

I also find it funny how there are posters on here who whine about science being prosecuted by religion, yet have no second thoughts on savagely bashing Christianity. If you don't like religion, thats fine. But please don't try to make shitty generalizations about us.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

It's not about all Christans, it's about the Chest-thumping, hair-pulling, teeth gnashing, ones that seem to think anyone that doesn't believe EXACTLY like they do are unworthy to enter their "Paradise, Heaven or whatever" Alas all religions have them. The Christian ones are just loudest in this country.

"Fuck the damn creationists, those bunch of dumb-ass bitches,
every time I think of them my trigger finger itches.
They want to have their bullshit, taught in public class,
Stephen J. Gould should put his foot right up their ass.
Noah and his ark, Adam and his Eve,
straight up fairy stories even children don't believe.
I'm not saying there's no god, that's not for me to say,
all I'm saying is the Earth was not made in a day.

Fuck the damn creationists I say it with authority,
because kicking their punk asses be me paramount priority.
Them wack-ass bitches say, "evolution's just a theory",
they best step off, them brainless fools, I'll give them cause to fear me.
The cosmos is expanding every second, every day,
but their minds are shrinking as they close their eyes and pray.
They call their bullshit science like the word could give them cred,

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Joke or not, I never understood how Intelligent Designers could think this game is anti-god. The only way that change occurs in Spore is when a large overseeing figure directly interfers and redesigns a creature. It's funny, really. It's a game of intelligent biological and social designing. ^^

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

It's so clearly a trolling site! I've seen my share of religious sites calling to ban stuff and in nearly all instances they don't show examples of what they're campaigning against and there's usually a mention on religion outside the posts. Like a proverb or some wise saying from someone.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

The religious part of me that still has faith in humanity says that this is a hoax.

While the scientific side of me says that there has been ample proof that human stupidity is unlimited.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Yeah if only there was a way to harness stupidity then we'd have an bottomless energy source.

Personally I'll never understand how evolution (something thats been pretty much proven) is less believable than the earth being magically created in seven days. No offence I just don't get it.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

This HAS to be a hoax. I mean, it's not like everything else (besides school curriculums) If it's something you don't like, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT.

So if you don't like the idea of evolution, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

Creationists aren't worried that their children will be exposed to evolution. They're worried that other people's children will be exposed to evolution.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

You have GOT to be kidding me. This is just another good example of idiots knowing nothing about the game itself spouting off without actually playing it or THINKING ABOUT IT.

While the game does tip its hat towards Darwins Theory of Evolution, it by no means claims it to be the end all be all of how your beasty is actually progressing. Like it says in the damn trailer; "All of the time, someone was guiding them through.. that person was you." If that doesn't also tip its hat towards the possibility of intellegent design I don't know what does.

If we want to go on about how Spore is nothing more than a propaganda piece, how many other games that you very well might have no problems with are getting in your kids hands that obviously are? I don't hear the christian right wing bitching about how Guitar Hero or Rock Band are leading our youth into temptation with their vulgar secular music. I have yet to read about any parent groups attempting to boycott Assassins Creed because it shows midaeval christianity as a bunch of rampaging, village burning, armor clad pillagers. I never saw any article in the newspapers talking about citizen groups banding against Gamespot or EB or Best Buy for selling the Playboy Mansion game because its could be considered to be pornographic or demening to women. Its a popular game, and I guess thats enough for the villagers to light their torches and start witchhunting over though. It pisses me off though because it really IS safe for kids to play. They might actually learn something, or be interested in studying the sciences of Biology, Ecology, Sociology or Anthropology in a time when most kids don't even know how to spell the name of their home goddamn state.

Its just great. C'mon folks. Stop blaming the fact that your kids just very well might one day have questions you can't answer, and instead FIND OUT THE ANSWERS YOURSELF AND ANSWER THEM LIKE A PARENT OUGHT TO. Teach your kids about the world. And if you don't know then LEARN and then teach them with a clear conscience. If its a matter of belief or faith then at least do your kids the dignity of knowing that there are other opinions that matter out there other than your own. Ie; if you believe that god created the heavens and the universe then just remind them its A FREAKIN GAME.

Re: Creationist Site Targets Spore

We are talking about a game were you can populate the universe with penismonsters and the likes. And creationists think that it might make their children evolutionists. They are afraid that their children will chose the penismonsters over their own religion.

Well it doesn't mather, if the doomsday device proves successfull which Stephen Hawkings says it will be then we will pretty much have evidence that everything religious is bull and that science rules.
