Today is perhaps not the best time to shout Aaaaaarrrr...
As reported by CustomPC, Microsoft has declared October 21st to be Global Anti-Piracy Day. As part of its efforts, MS announced copyright infringement lawsuits against 20 computer re-sellers in the US.
From the report:
Launching several global initiatives, the aim is to raise awareness of the damage to software innovation that Microsoft says is caused by piracy.
As well as educating people about piracy, Microsoft has also initiated a huge list of legal proceedings that it’s taking out against pirates. Microsoft isn’t messing about when it says ‘global’ either. The list of 49 countries that Microsoft is targeting spans six continents, and ranges from the UK and the US all the way through to Chile, Egypt, Kuwait, Indonesia and China.
Based on the material cited in its press release, productivity software seems to be more on Microsoft's mind than games. David Finn, associate general counsel for Worldwide Anti-Piracy and Anti-Counterfeiting commented:
In partnership with national governments, local law enforcement agencies, and our customer and partner communities, Microsoft is driving anti-piracy efforts across countries and continents through an equally sophisticated system of business intelligence, forensics and education. Together, we are working to identify international connection points between software pirates and counterfeiters, to help stop them in their tracks and protect consumers and legitimate businesses from this illegal trade.

I'm going to pirate twice as many games today as I usually do.
Just so long as you don't say "Yarrrgh!"

What can I not say? Yarrrgh? O crap, I said it...
Could be worse... you could have said Candlejack
Oh no! Here he co
Ouch. Glad I dont pirate.
Living in Canada. Anti-piracy laws don't effect me; if I'm not hosting, I'm not breaking any laws.
I never get tired of pointing and laughing.
Don't be too sure about that, if Harper has his way.

There's a good chance he will, too. All he has to do is sneak it into something like he did with Bill C-10.
Careful, we will soon from what I understand. There is some upcoming legislation for anti-piracy and copyright issues...hopefully the House of Commons won't vote in favor right off of the bat...
I think a more appropriate name would be "Global Anti Piracy of Microsoft Products Day".
And the users of the Pirate Bay have declared every other day as "Don't f*** with your customers" day.

When is 'release a decent OS' day?
That'd be when Service Pack 1 for Vista came out, champ.
Surely that's a matter of opinion, not fact?

And that is, of course, assuming that my obvious ironic sarcasm wasn't.
in my experiences though, Vista runs Win9x games better than XP does; i.e. no third-party patches or compatibility-mode settings required for the games to run flawlessly.

are we supposed to talk like ninjas then?

Arr, man the ship! Houst the mast! WE BOARD MICROSOFT AT NIGHTFALL!
Ok I'll be downloading TV shows and possibly a movie from my favorite pirating site. And then I be talking like a pirate for the rest of the day YARRRRRGH.

Oh and I just thought I'd point out that the pirating site I frequent (well the only one I visit) has ninja in the title. Ironic no?

Or maybe call this Global Piracy Martyr day.
Seriously, the only viable solutions to piracy are social ones. Law enforcement and technological methods are either going to be 10 or 20 targets in a sea of thousands, or be reverse engineered into a product that is actually better than the legit versions of a game, it amazes me to this day that I don't pirate newly released games, including ones I turn out to regret buying, like the PC version of Gears of War.
Ahoy, Microsoft scallywags! We've come for your booty!
ON your feet you dogs! We be taking this ship of microsoft and its booty and gold to sail the sevens. Yargh.
Whoops. Lol.
I'm no expert on ths subject, but is Microsoft even allowed to make an official day? sure they can say that they consider Oct. 21 to be whatever day they want. But to "declare" it "don't talk like a pirate" day... when did they get that much power? and didn't they realize that by "declaring" it as this day, they would be hit by a huge backlash of insults and flames?

Hahahahaha.
"So, as you may know, Mr. computer re-seller, today is Global Anti-Piracy Day! Us folks at Microsoft would like to wish you a great day. Oh, and we forgot to mention. We're suing you! See you in court!"
How appropriate that 2 of the bigger games of the year on MS's console just got leaked weeks in advance.
I'm going to bust warez *so hard* today.
Is it ironic or just a coincidence that I watched Pirates At World's End last night?
On the one hand, I deeply admire Pirates for their dedication in keeping Global Warming at bay. On the other hand, I deeply believe that companies should be rewarded for the service they provide.
What's a lazy man to do?
Oh yeah, not care either way.
So, this is a bad time to mention the MOTHER 3 English Translation again? :D

I'm afraid the game companies lost my support on the piracy issue when they started claiming that I was a pirate - i.e. when they started limiting my use of their products even though I never pirated a game in my life. I will never again support any anti-piracy efforts. As far as I'm concerned, if they treat me as a pirate I'll play their game and support the pirates.
Microsoft's anti-piracy systems isn't so bad at least. I should know since that's all I do everyday in Co-op. It's not like EA's DRM.
only one word needs to be spoken,
"Yarr!"
Seriously, anything they do is like trying to stop the tide from coming in. They'd do much better to focus more on their customers and less on people who'd most likely not buy the game in the first place.
It's mostly just people pirating Windows XP so they can get Vista off their computers...
