Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

November 13, 2008 -

Everyone's favorite disbarred attorney has a new gig.

It seems that Jack Thompson is now penning a column for conservative website Human Events.

Thompson teased his new assignment in a post on GamePolitics yesterday:

This new ESRB bandaid just gets more of the camel's nose into the video game industry's tent. Look for a federal law prohibiting sale of mature games to minors in Obama's first term.  It will be wildly popular with parents in both  parties, as a recent video game industry poll proves.

The new statutory approach is constiutionally bullet proof...

PS:  Hey, I have a new job that began today, and I'm not saying what it is, but you kids won't be pleased!

GP: So, Jack Thompson, cub reporter?

Big thanks to: GP reader Maxamegalon2000 for the tip!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

you can't spell pundit without Pun!!!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I knew he was trolling for job offers.

Jack Thompson is like Britney Spears...if you keep talking about him, he'll keep showing up in the news.  Ignore him completely and he'll fade away into nothingness.  Personalities like his thrive on recognition more than any desire to serve the public good.

So he's writing a column for some internet rag.  Meh.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Funny enough, I reported his post on his new job's website as being offensive, and they pulled it. :)

That's awesome...

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

This

BTW "Jorb" is intentionally misspelled

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

....Never heard of it. He couldn't even get a gig with a more well known wingnut website.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Seriously, who would give this guy a job after all the crap he's done, then theres the fact that he's disbarred in Flordia.  Yeah, can't believe it honestly, maybe the people who hired Jack here just didn't read up on him or something.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I'm honestly surprised he didn't try to hide his "former lawyer" status, or that he had been a lawyer at all, from his tiny little bio:

"Mr. Thompson is a writer and former lawyer in Miami who was Janet Reno's Republican opponent in 1988 for State Attorney. He secured the first broadcast decency fines ever levied by the FCC (1989) and represented Oliver North at the 1992 Time Warner shareholders meeting, persuading TW to pull rapper Ice-T's "Cop Killer" from store shelves worldwide."

I'm also surprised he has NO mention of his crusade.. maybe they told him it was too controversial to include? But then, he would've flaked-out if they'd strong arm'd him on that.. unless he REALLY needed the money.. hmm.. confused..

Hey, I have a new job that began today, and I'm not saying what it is, but you kids won't be pleased!

Know we know what it is I can honestly say 'I don't give a crap'. Though I am out 10 bucks as I had you down for a shopping mall Santa. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

He'd be fired from that in an hour, as any kid that asks for a video game would be berated by him.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So, Jack, whatever happened to this Once and Future Attorney crap?  Decided you didn't have a legal leg to stand on?  Giving up?

You're so pathetic.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Maybe we should go over there and send him email with links from Obama and if he fails to print them demand that he quits for refusing to print the truth and hiding facts from his fellow bloggers ;)

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Question: while we gamers, his favorite targets for hate, arrogance and prejudice, will probably one day end up on the crosshairs of his new commentary, what are the chances that he seriously offends and comes to conflict with fellow right wing religious conservatives in his writings?

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Oh. 95% chance. At least.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

more if they find out about his little gay porn in the legal filing fiasco.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Glad he has found his place among the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter and Phyllis Schafly. How fitting.

You forgot Hannity, Never forget Hannity.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Rather odd that Jack thinks we actually care what the hell he does for a living. As long as he is no longer an attorney, therefore most everything he rants about in regards to videogames will be ignored. With one less childish psycho in the mix, maybe there can actually be some sort of reasonable dialogue about videogame violence and it's impact, rather than having to listen to the sensationalistic ravings of an attention whore.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Believe me, it gets worse when he feels ignored.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Can't help myself.  Whenever I feel like a wreck of a human being, Jack's antics can usually be counted on to make me feel better. In contrast to him, I feel downright well-adjusted. He's like a human episode of Jerry Springer.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So Jack is a commentator for a website, which makes him less than a journalist, so I think that makes him less than Dennis. Oh well better than being unemployed I guess. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Father Time (haven't been fired on ethics charges but I can't say the same for Jack).

Kinda funny that the article he made isn't about games. Let's hope Kotaku never hears about this.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

This is the jobt that John Bruce said that we would supposedly have issue with?  Really, I really could less of a shit with Jack writing his psychotic drivel for some conservative whack job rag.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

What's that scraping sound?

Oh, it's just coming from this barrel behind me, nothing to worry about I guess.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Decided to take a stroll through their obscene material.  I'm an adult, I can do that.

I love this phrase on the About Us page:

"In every issue, you will savor that rare moment in journalism when the thick fog of liberal bias is blown away to reveal... THE NAKED, BEDROCK TRUTH!"

Actually, if we REALLY wanted to read that properly, it would read:

"In every issue, you will savor that rare moment in journalism when the thick fog of liberal bias is blown away to reveal... Conservative bias"

A clearly Christian religious bias can be seen in just the overwhelming Anti-Muslim stories.

Not to mention the reference to the Anti-Theory of Evolution in public education stance.  Perhaps they support the Theory of Creationism or the Theory of Intelligent Design?  Not likely they want the Spagetti Monster taught in schools.

So, in fact, we aren't dealing with a REAL news organization.  Only politically biased and bigoted garbage.  You might call it a political sensationalist rag, if anything.

I did notice at the bottom of the page that "Human Nature" is a part of the "Eagle Publishing Co.".  Is that associated with the hate group The Eagles Forum?

As to John Bruce being a contributor, big fat hairy deal.  Eric Rudolph is a contributor of articles too.  I have no doubt that Fred Phelps is as well.  And certainly Lyndon LaRouche has a few published articles too.  There are a large number of individuals who contribute to print.  So what?  A religious sociopath had an op-ed piece published in a newspaper earlier this year advocated abuse against kids based on their sexuality, preceived or actual, and claimed it was their religious Right to do so and they were against an Anti-Abuse (Anti-Bully) law in NC because of it.  I'm about as impressed with their ability to publish as I am with John Bruce's.

It still surprises me that there are people this stupid in the world. Man has officially beaten mother nature, as not only are lesser specimens of our species living long enough to reproduce... they are in positions of authority...

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So he's a newsie now?

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Totally predictable. However knowing how much this narc loves time on-screen, I figured he would try to get on a 24hr propaganda network like FOX.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So THIS was the Secret Plan (TM) Jack's been hinting at all through his disbarrment proceedings?  Allowing himself to be stripped of his attorney's title, ending his legal career in disgrace, so that he could make a miraculous comeback as... a right-wing rant-writer (say that 3x fast) for some obscure political blog?

Wow, guess he sure showed us.  Congratulations, Jack, you win.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

no come on guys, JT hasnt been disbarred its going exactly to plan.

JT told me personally on a thread a few weeks back, that he wold NOT be disbarred, and we had to 'wait and see' because he had a 'smoking gun' to save his career.

He cant possibly have another job, he didnt lose his old one because of his fantastic last minute evidence. Wha.. what was it? hell i dont know... lies you say? NEVER!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

If anything, he'll spam that here now.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Can we please ban JT now that he has an outlet for his fail rage? It was nice of GP to give him some sense of belonging here, even if it was really just sugar coated hate, but he is no longer all that interesting. Honestly now, how long can you laugh at someone whose ruined their life before you start feeling bad for doing it?

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

No. He still generates 1u1z.

sadly thats how society views things as video games..its hipocracy at its best..If someone were to complain about hell lets just say the departed (god that movie is AWESOME) and they complained about all the violence and things like that lobbied to have R rated movies not shown anymore then every single person who is against violent video games would shout the whole "you cant do that" bull but 2 weeks later will yell out the same crap about banning gta and its ok to have our rights taken away..

stupidity at its best

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Cub reporter?  Not quite, Dennis.  That would refer to someone who hasn't done this before.

I covered the Elian Gonzalez saga for Newsmax.com and on Fox News Channel a dozen times in 2000.  I then covered the Bush v. Gore post election fight here in Florida for Newsmax.com as well and on Fox.

There's a lot about Jack Thompson that Dennis McCauley doesn't know.  If he did, he would be even more nervous than he already is.

This assignment by Human Events has been fun.  Palin's press conference today was a fiasco.  Read all about it at a site that covers real news.  Jack Thompson

Oh! Then by that rationale, Jack, for 31 years, you were a cub lawyer.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

A lot of us, heck, all of us, DO pay attention to real news, Mr. Thompson. The internet as a whole is just a crappy place to get it. TV and newspapers cover it better.

Sorry for posting for fun on miscelaneous news about things we happen to enjoy to any degree. You're posting on a place about something you hate. Strange, isn't it?

InfophileSomething weird was going on with that comment. As soon as I posted it, it looked like it had replies from the past. And now I can't even find it. Ah well, it was getting off-topic for that thread anyway.10/01/2014 - 4:29am
Sleaker@CraigR been using Win8.1 for a while, I don't really see any usability difference between it and 7 (Work uses 7)10/01/2014 - 2:16am
Craig R.Ok, my internal debate was short-lived. If Win10 is still a year out, I'm not waiting that long for an SSD, so on Win7 I will remain.09/30/2014 - 7:52pm
Matthew Wilsonits called windows 10, and I am happy to get the start menu back.09/30/2014 - 7:18pm
Jessy HartIs this stuff about Windows 10 legit? Is it actually called Windows 10 or is it just some stupid joke?09/30/2014 - 6:57pm
ZippyDSMleeSo I been trying to play Bioshock Infinite I got all the DLC,ect but do not want the extras to make your charatcer over powered from the start.....they force you to take them which is quite annoying......09/30/2014 - 6:45pm
Craig R.I need to upgrade to an SSD, still seriously debating moving to Win8.1 from 7 at the same time09/30/2014 - 6:07pm
Craig R.Win10 is probably Win8.1 with more cleanup and the Start button back.09/30/2014 - 6:06pm
Sora-ChanAhh, it's just weird seeing someone's post all of a sudden have replies from days prior before it was posted due to that.09/30/2014 - 5:49pm
MechaTama31sora: I broke the ordering intentionally, as AE's and my conversation had squeezed the text boxes down to be quite slim. I replied to an earlier post of his instead of the one I was actually replying to.09/30/2014 - 5:46pm
MechaTama31So, 9 would have been the good one, but they are skipping it to do two crap ones in a row?09/30/2014 - 5:41pm
Sora-ChanSo, judging from the poll post for #gamergate, it looks like too many thread replies breaks the ordering of posts, as seen with the recent post from Infophile.09/30/2014 - 5:31pm
Andrew EisenOr no! It wasn't Y3K compliant. Microsoft thought it best to super future proof its OS and skipped straight to 10 which is Y3K compliant!09/30/2014 - 5:01pm
Andrew EisenJust tell them it wasn't Y2K compliant.09/30/2014 - 5:00pm
Craig R.Looking forward to having to explain to coworkers down the road what ever happened to 9 *sigh*09/30/2014 - 4:57pm
Craig R.2k was crap. XP was solid, 7 is good, 8.1 is actually really good once you make it look like 7 :)09/30/2014 - 4:52pm
Sora-Chan@MP As someone who has used each version of windows since 3.1... I prefer Vista over 7 for various reasons. The only thing I give 7 over Vista is preformance. They really screwed up a bunch of things when making 7. Also, XP was a pain. 2k was better.09/30/2014 - 4:13pm
Jessy Hart@E. Zachary Knight Is that show called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures?09/30/2014 - 3:34pm
