Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

November 13, 2008 -

Everyone's favorite disbarred attorney has a new gig.

It seems that Jack Thompson is now penning a column for conservative website Human Events.

Thompson teased his new assignment in a post on GamePolitics yesterday:

This new ESRB bandaid just gets more of the camel's nose into the video game industry's tent. Look for a federal law prohibiting sale of mature games to minors in Obama's first term.  It will be wildly popular with parents in both  parties, as a recent video game industry poll proves.

The new statutory approach is constiutionally bullet proof...

PS:  Hey, I have a new job that began today, and I'm not saying what it is, but you kids won't be pleased!

GP: So, Jack Thompson, cub reporter?

Big thanks to: GP reader Maxamegalon2000 for the tip!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

It always was, it's really amusing when nuts like Jack fight the very thing that lets them say whatever they want, (like mocking a suicide for instance) barring lies and whatnot (which I think he was disbarred for).

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Why am i not surprised that this is all he could cook up? Now instead of staring at the computer typing endless rants and press releases, he's now a news blogger. Blogging. Just what his 'opponents' do. The circle is now complete...

That said, i'm glad he at least got SOMETHING to fill his financial void. Though sadly, this will probably make for more of a profit for him than his last decade as an attorney...

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Am I the only one who gets the sense that "conservative columns" are for washed up people whose actual careers have gone down the toilet?  There was that Pat Boone guy who Dennis covered a while ago and now this.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Reading all the comments saying 'Good on you for getting a job' makes me smile. Because if, say, a GP editor was fired and then it was reported that he passed the bar or something, I'm almost positive Thompson would call him a 'Godless bastard' who is 'corrupting the youth of this country' or something. It would probably be bitter and laced with various nasty comments.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I just realized how perfect a set up this new "job" is for Jack.

Now he has even more reason and time to spend on a computer, something that has already been long his favorite pastime.

And any site that includes Ann Coulter and many of those other names in a positive manner isn't one that deals much with sensible reason.  Which means Thompson will really fit in there!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I'm not so sure getting paid 10 cents a word for the occassional article qualifies as a "job." I'll bet Jack won't make  more  than $5,000 a year doing that -- not that he was making $5,000 a year before. And it's not the first time he's a contributing writer (and I use the word "writer" loosely) for a conservative news/opinion blog. Back in the day, he did a stint contributing drivel to NewsMax.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I'm curious if this is actually a paying gig or not.  Looking at their "contributors" most of them are just republications of nationally syndicated columns that they convieniently don't mention.

I find it quite funny that at one point he writes, "he told this reporter." So now he's calling himself a reporter?

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

(shrug) - OK - so, he's got a blog. Nice.

Jokes aside, I kinda knew he was gonna end up just another douchebag with an opinion.  What's remarkable is that anybody would pay for it.  Still, you know what they say about fools and their money.  Well, good for him really, I know allot of people out of work these days, have to kind of make the best of it.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

People will pay for anyone with even a midly recognizable name these days.

Good luck, Jack.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Congrats on the new job Jack.

No more really need be said, at least for now.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So, now he's just a Right Wing nutjob writing for a Conservative blog run by other Right Wing nutjobs that will only be read by more Right Wing nutjobs.  Sounds fine to me.  Based on the comments I read it sounds like he's just preaching to the choir, which again is just fine (hey, the guy's bound to have at least some people who share his extremist viewpoints, improbable as that may seem.)  We've been after him for years to get his own blog so he can spew his hatred, lies and outrageous statements.  Well, he's finally pretty much got that now.  So just let 'im.  At least he now has a venue to do that, so hopefully that'll mean he'll be harassing us here less often and abusing the comments section here with his spamming, insults and threats.

Personally I thought maybe he would have been hired by the PTC, which would have been a match made in hell.  At least now he's just another Conservative hack and can't threaten anyone with lawsuits.  As long as Fox News doesn't give him a television show, I don't think we have much to worry about from him.  I won't subscribe to his RSS feed, but I might bookmark it.  It should be good to read at least for a few yuks.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Sigh well so much for my hope that we wouldn't hear for him for at least a few months. Well I'm sure he'll be a big hit on Bill O'riley and Fox News.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

1. Human Events? That rag has no credibility at all. I've seen ads for them in my Gmail. They publish Ann "Coultergeist" Coulter, Robert Novak, L. Brent Bozell III, Michelle Malkin, Bill "BillO the Clown" O'Reilly, and Phyllis Schlafly. If that doesn't give some indication of their inanity, I don't know what will.

2. How would federal legislation on video games be a conservative thing? I thought that conservatism (at least in the American sense) meant less government intervention and regulation, not more.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Conservatism only ment that when it was felt that liberals were in charge.

As the concervative movement gained power over the years it shifted to 'the government needs to protect people from themselves' so you got more morality laws.   Freedom means living your life their way.. so if something goes against their way of life it is infringing and needs to be stopped, but if it goes the other way then it's the democratic process deciding how everyone should live.  51% is always right as long as it is them.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I, for one, won't be signing up to his rss feed, won't be visiting his blog, and I won't be posting comments to his site.

Please people, keep in mind that places like that count HITS, not opinions. Which means he can be full of spit, you could log on there and say he is full of spit, everyone could be proving that he is full of spit, but the website would only count hits.

This is ONE case where ignoring him would make him go away.

I am also surprised that anyone would hire him when he has already been disbarred for lying among other things. I doubt he put much truth in his resume, and unless they actually looked up stuff (rather then just calling his references a.k.a. Wunderman) then they probably don't know Jack.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

I completeley agree.  Let the comments section on his articles remain a barren wasteland.

But if anyone finds that they absolutely cannot resist posting something, please remember this:

KEEP IT CLEAN!

I'm not even kidding.  Even one "lulz jt u shud die" among a thousand posts, and he'll wave it around as an example of what gamers are, and the 'unjustified harrassment' he 'bravely' suffers through.  He's done it many times before.

There's no need to stoop to his level.

Most people here already know this, and wouldn't act like that anyway, I know.  This is for the few who would: Please don't give us gamers and more of a bad rep than we already have.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

With that said, he'll probably just post stuff like that on himself and claim he's being threatened.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

His disbarrment doesn't matter to Christian Conservatives. Apparently, Christians are allowed to get away with anything so long as its religiously motivated.  He will be preaching to the choir there.

Remember, they think Free Speech only applies to Religious Speech.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

That and disaggreeing with government policies. That's about it.

It's funny though, gun control advocates can point to the wording of the second amendment and say 'they meant guns only belong with a 'well regulated militia''.

Certain Conservatives would disagree yet say the first amendment only covers free speech when you're protesting the government yet there's nothing to suggest that.

Disclaimer: I do not support gun control other than background checks and possibly (short) waiting periods. I do not support banning assault rifles and I believe the framers of the bill of rights intended for citizens to own guns. I base that off a quote from Jefferson.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Its one of those paradoxes.  Both liberals and conservatives think the Bill of Rights isn't absolute.  Liberals say that about the 2nd Amendment, Conservatives about the 1st Amendment.

I say its all or nothing.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Actually, both parties have their way with the first ammendment.  Dems like to label most anything as "hate speech" if it offends anyone and are usually PC nazis.  Conservatives meanwhile usually want more religious involvement in the government while at the same time putting hate on the Muslims.  These are generalities, of course.  Both sides have their various ammendments they like to take as casual advice rather than a core tennant of our country's belief and legal system, but they both go hate'n on the 1st ammendment.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So who will be the first to spam his articles with Press releases and letters? Any takers?

Congrats on the new gig. It is a far cry from Raise Hell Inc. I was really looking forward to finding out what that company was. But this new gig suits you well. Enjoy and have much success.

You just know he is going to get hammered by gamers if comments are allowed to be posted to his column. It would nice to see about 10k gamers join that site and make it crawl on its knees with all the rebuke they would shell out.

Raise Hell Inc. sounds like something Stone Cold Steve Austin would come up with.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Hornets, Jack Thompson can geaux chase a chupacabra.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Pelicans. Solidarity for the Saints = No retreat, no surrender. 2013 = Saints' revenge on the NFL. Even through the darkest days, this fire burns always.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Congratulations to Jack Thompson.  I am glad he found a job.  Although it's a far cry from being a lawyer, he can now write for like-minded people.  My money is on him saying or doing something stupid to get fired or sued.

Some advice, Jack:  You best keep the hyperbole and outrageous statements under control.  You can and will be held accountable for what you say by your employers.  Also, there will be comments placed to your articles you may not agree with.  That does not mean you can harrass them, email them, find out who they work for, sue them, or add them to your "gay conspiracy".  Deal with it like an adult for a change.

By the way, what ever happened to your jackvsgoliath and copycatviolence websites?

That is quite the mixed metaphor he's got there... How did he get hired as a writer?

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

LOL I see he finally got his own blog ;)

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Also:

"It will be wildly popular with parents in both  parties, as a recent video game industry poll proves."

A) Whenever Jack refers to a poll/survey/study/research without evidence of it, a majority of the time it turns out to not really exist either at all or in the form he claims it did.

B) In the cases where it does exist and says what he says it does, in proper context, or he does reference it, it turns out to be BS.

C) Allowing for the possibility that a fair and unbiased poll found the majority of the pollsters in favor of video game regulation, I say this: Just because something is 'popular' does not make it good, or right.  See Britney Spears, Heroine, Gas Tax Holiday, Patriot Act, the list goes on.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Congrats Thompson.  I don't know why you thought we wouldn't be pleased.  I think writing for a conservative publication is wholly appropriate for you.

Just remember that you're a contributor, not a columnist.  I'd hate to have to contact Human Events and tell them that you're misrepresenting yourself.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Haha, well played.

Good luck jack!

No, seriously... I'm happy for the guy. I mean... as an attorney, JT was just a caustic, abusive, jerk. As a pundit... well... I think after a long drawn out election year, we're all pretty resistant to written insanity :P. But I hope his tenture at human events bear more fruit than his previous career... cuz a little constructive use of his time would probably be really good for the guy.

okay, well that didn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense...

but the message still stands: CONGRATS JACK! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW DIGgS!

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

So wait, he writes reports and expects the president to actually care? Am I supposed to be impressed or something here? I feel like this is just another epic fail for him. Good to know that he got a new job. I'll take bets on how long he can hold it till he gets fired for sending porn to his boss or something like that. Hahah.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

ROFLMAO

So wait, now he's writing for a conservative paper and uses the name Michelleobamarama on gamepolitics? Someone needs a lesson on... well actually JT needs a lesson in a lot of things.

No disrespect to pundits intended, but when you go from being a lawyer to a pundit because you were disbarred, I don't think you should be jumping up and down with glee about it. That being said, I actually read the first article he had up today, and it's not too shabby actually. Perhaps he may have found his niche :p His "signature" or whatever it is, is self righteous, but the rest of it seems as unbiased as you possibly can be from a conservative site.

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

Actually, going from respectable professional to pop-media after disgrace is a pretty normal thing to do.

Professional organizations have standards, and people who can't play by the rules but still rant well enough find that it can be far more profitable to go the media route.  I mean, look at Dr Phil... he had his license revoked for ethical violations and then became quite popular (and wealthy) via beocming a pop-psychologist where the ethical standards are much lower (and no oversight).

Re: Jack Thompson's New Gig: Pundit

lol

that'll get him heard! seriously... aren't there just barely more readers of conservitive blogs as compared to, say, tabloids?

whatch out JT or them aliens may get ya and let big foot do his thing on yer behind!

i think he'd get more out of standing on the side of the street with a sign that said "games made me this way" as he was all dressed up as a bloody hobo or something...
