PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama Game

PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama Game

November 21, 2008

That was quick.

On Monday, Animal Rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) took a bite out of Majesco's new Cooking Mama title for featuring too many meat-eating recipes.

By Wednesday, Majesco had issued a rather mild response, pointing out that roughly half of the recipes in Cooking Mama: World Kitchen are meatless.

Eager for the last word, PETA closed out the week by petitioning Cooking Mama to commit to an all-veggie edition of the popular game franchise:

Dearest Mama,

It’s great to hear that you want to “make the world a happier place,” because that’s pretty much what we want to do too (though it seems that we might have different tactics …). I do hope that you seriously consider making a vegetarian diet a part of your strategy for world happiness.

By adopting a vegetarian diet, you can save more than 100 animals per year. Plus, vegetarians live longer and have a considerably lower carbon footprint. I know that—as you are a digital being—these benefits don’t exactly apply to you, but I still urge you to take the pledge to be veg for 30 days.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I want to petition an end to PETA. "“make the world a happier place,” because that’s pretty much what we want to do too" - on this I call bullshit. I don't care how much you may -want- it, but here's an idea: If you want it so bad, maybe you should stop helping domestic pro-animal terrorists and stop euthanizing at least over half the animals that come into your possession for frivolous reasons.

Btw - that "I want to petition an end to PETA" I don't really have a petition going. I'm just saying...it'd be nice to see happen, though false hope it be.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Sounds like PETA, except the hippie part. I don't even consider PETA hippies, peta members get riled up over KFC, or a rodeo, or possibly a horserace. The only way you'll get a hippie that riled up is if they're protesting a war and even then they won't throw paint on people. Sure they might protest right along with PETA but they won't act as crazy. To put it another way hippies are into peace, PETA considers the ALF the lesser of two evils when compared to animal testing (no really PETA's president said so herself).

See, this is my problem.  We have the teeth we do for a reason, to eat meat and veggies.  Screw the animals, they kill each other just as often as we kill them, and we are more humane than how they kill each other.  The global footprint crap is BS because global warming is bullshit, and scientists have proven that the sun is just going through a phase, but the politicians like the fact that they can use it to get votes.

Plus, going vegan or just not eating meat for 30 days will make you sick when you start to eat meat again because your stomacher has to readjust, so it isn't worth it.  You will be on the pot for at least 2 hours a day for the first week of eating meat again.  It is just how our bodies try to run them selves as efficiently as possible.

If PETA didn't exist, this world would be a better place, and more animals would be alive, even if half the number they have killed would be treated poorly.  They are a lower species for a reason, and would still die in worse conditions in the wild than they do in our hands.  Have you ever seen a snake eat a mouse, or an eagle eat a baby dear, or a lion eat anything in Africa pretty much?  Jesus these people do not think beyond what they want to see.

I second the non-petition petition to end PETA.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Good call on the global warming thing. I've earned myself a new friend.

Going green is the new fad/cult. I hate how people think that by placing the word "green" into their intiative, it somehow validates it even more both in relevance and in some cases morality. And far too often it actually works.

Every movement claims to be environmentaly friendly without actually proving it. Notice how carbon, in general, has now become a new evil? Even though it's a substance that comes from EVERYWHERE. And yet we see people nit-picking on one-another as to who produces more carbon. I'm willing to bet there is little difference between the amount of carbon produced for getting vegies to your dinnerplate and the amount for getting meat to your plate.

The same goes for what they said about vegetarians living longer.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Hey global warming is real!!! and in 400 years when the ocean has risen by 1 meter(that is how long it will take by current speed of sea rise) there will be some flooded cities... So I say something has to be done!!! in a few hundred years... when cool new technologies are available... for now, its a great way to get votes...

You are wrong about the meat vs vegetable though...

Plants eat CO2 so their making is much lower on carbon then pretty much anything else(even with all the machines used in their production taken into account)

Producing meat requires the making of massive amounts of veggies to feed the livestock(unless they eat grass that grows on its own near the farm). Followed by the emissions from the animal and machines that process the animal... Cows for example are the leading emittor of methane and they make nitrous oxide and ammonia...

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Global warming is real, but the idea that we played a significant role in it happening is BULLSHIT!

Let me take you back 66 million years.  The dinosaurs have a million years left, and they live in a world that's much hotter on average than it is today.  Where are their Hummers?

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

DeepThorn human global warming is far from dis proven.  Even Penn and Teller in there show Bullshit! did go as far to say it was dis proven even though they want to.  Lowering your carbon footprint is a good thing but I wouldn't at the cost of your enjoyment.

Also it is completely possible to become a vegetarian or vegan from being a omnivore or carnivore without any adverse effects your body. I eat meat because I want to and hate it when veggies rub the whole meat is murder thing in my face but I know plenty of veterinarians who aren't like that.

"Plus, vegetarians live longer and have a considerably lower carbon footprint."

really now? then why do they commonly look ill at all times and have to rely on substitutes (I.E. pills) for half their dietary income? i'd love to see proof of that one.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

They base this claim on a study that followed 1,900 vegetarians for over 20 years.  The mortality rate was 40% to 50% less than you'd expect based on the average mortality rate in the entire population.

It's the same stuff we see out of the games=increased aggression crowd.  The study doesn't necessarily prove that a vegetarian diet contributes to longevity or overall health.  Although it does demonstrate a correlation between the two.  All it really shows is that people who are extremely concerned about the food they eat tend to be healthier.  You could probably study a group on a diet with a relatively similar profile, except high in lean animal protein, and see similar results when compared to the population at large.  After all, meat doesn't necessarily make you fat and unhealthy, and the study used mortality rates of a population that includes 600-pound movie buffs, and people who persist on a diet of pepperoni pizza and french fries.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

PETA's response was less "We did this to promote our ideas" and more "You should never eat meat, we're right and you're wrong".  Here is my idea for PETA.  Some teeth are designed specifically to help you eat meat.  I would like to see PETA members take hammers and beat those teeth out of themselves.  PETA, the only way I will stop eating meat is if it suddenly starts tasting bad.  Until then I will continue to enjoy burgers which can be from .5lb to 1lb in weight.  So long as they keep tasting so good I'll keep eating them.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I've analyzed my diet, and I have concluded that most of my favorite foods are composed of bread, meat and cheese. I've never tried going vegetarian because, damnit, I'm an omnivore and meat/dairy tastes good to me. And just how can they be so mean to Mama anyways?

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Some Vegetarians do allow Dairy products in their diet, eggs as well, just not actual Meat.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

No they say that they were given the animals by pounds or whatever so that PETA could euthanize them, not so that they could find them a home, but because they needed to be euthanized and PETA volunteered or something.

Oh and they also say they euthanized some animal testing animals that were in severe pain as a mercy killing (think that Schivo girl, however you spell her name).

This is just their official reason though so I don't know if they're telling the truth.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Some were just idiots and copycats, at least a few were Animal Liberation Front members. As far as I know, none were PETA proper. While the ALF is not strictly part of PETA, the connection is pretty close - PETA has historically provided the public face of the ALF, particularly before both organizations established their internet presence, and funds most of the legal defense for ALF members who've been arrested.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Not entirely corrected, really - PETA and the ALF are separate organizations in the same way the Church of Scientology and Applied Schloastics are. While officially separate organizations with different leadership, they very often share a public face and promote the same agenda by different means. While PETA themselves weren't officially involved in lab bombings, pet store break ins, or any of the other crimes ALF members have been, they have financially supported ALF actions.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Lets see, going off of the past couple months in a year I eat eat/drink least:

10 steaks
100 beef burgers w/ cheese
100 strips of bacon (I wish more)
50 cups of milk
20 breakfast sausages
5 pot roasts (with additional family)
20 chicken sandwiches (chilies type not lunch sandwich type)
10 lunch sandwiches w/ cheese
5 blocks of cheese like you see at the store (with crackers typically)
15 grilled cheese sandwiches
50 beef tacos
100 chicken enchiladas
who knows how many eggs, a lot though
and other various items of meat and milk based products, where I have meat in almost every single meal with at average 2 1/2 meals a day.

Looking at the size of the average farm chicken, cow and pig, I highly doubt that would be 100 of them, even looking at internals and other things that decrease the amount of meat mass wise.  In my family, we have 6 farms too, so I have a decent idea of how much meat there is in a chicken, goat, cow and pig.

Given the areas the meat comes from typically, I may be able to see 40 animals a year die because of me if all of the places that I eat from only use the highest quality areas of meat possible.  I would guess probably half of that though.

So how many animals does a lion eat in a year again?  I think they eat about once a week typically, so that would be 52 animals a year if that is 100% correct.  Given that I am an omnivore, and I don't lay around most of the day like lions do, so I believe I should be eating about the same amount of meat they do in a year if not more.  So shouldn't I eat more meat?  or am I off on my calculations?  I guess they have to share with their pack, but then how many times do they hunt for their once a week meals?  I dont know...  Interesting thought though...

Yeah I didn't bother doing any posting because I knew they wouldn't allow it for long.  At any rate, they would all just reply and claim they're better than me, that I'm a barbarian for eating meat, that I'm heartless because I don't care about the suffering of farm animals (I don't.  If I have a concern, it would have to be disease and chemicals being passed on to people through that. As far as pain though, don't give a sh**. That's their lot in life.)  There's no convincing zealots.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I aksed them something similar myself a while ago. I asked what if the meat industry released all it's livestock into the wild, waited for them to die naturally then dragged their corpses in to be processed. They said that it would be fine but then agreed with me that it wouldn't be the most practical way to run a meat business and probably wouldn't happen unless they were forced to do it.

I guess I just don't get this.  Has PETA gone completely crazy?  I used to be somewhat of a fan, even given that they seemed a bit out there, but this is ridiculous.  I mean surely PETA realises that many people are not vegetarian and many of these people like eating meat knowing that their preference means the death of animals.  The folks behind this PETA statement are exhibiting signs of a break with reality if they think that Majesco is just going to roll over and become vegetarian just because PETA thinks that's what the company should do.  I mean what's next - are they going to take McDonalds to task and demand that it becomes vegetarian?

By the way, I tried vegetarianism for 5 years - it left me with long-term acid reflux disease which I'm still fighting 10 years later.  Vegetarianism is okay for some, but it's not the best and most healthy lifestyle for everyone.  My grandad lived to be 102 and he never touched green vegetables.

Ah PETA. You claim to save animals and yet you euthnize more dogs and cats than the SPCA.If you want to know about how "ethical" is PETA you should visit animalscam.com

I made a personal pledge to NEVER EVER donate a single cent to PETA. If you care about animals go to the SPCA. If you are a demented ignorant turd go with PETA.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

No, if you're a demented ignorant turd you still shouldn't support PETA anyway, you should seek some help or try something peaceful.

No offense but I consider a vegetarian diet as part of a strategy for world happiness a big contradictio in terminis.

After all, I'd feel horrible, the world revolves around me, ergo that diet would not help for world happiness.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I believe most people would be unhappy if they could not eat meat.  So therefore world happiness would not be achieved.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Save 100 Animals for what?

If people don't eat them, they'll still be slaughtered, since they cost too much to feed.

If people continue not to eat them, then the breeding of them will be reduced, and so they will never get born, so it doesn't do any future generations and good either.

These animals are born to be eaten, that is their purpose in life, if we didn't eat them, then they wouldn't be born.

If the members of PETA want to be vegetarian, then fine, I don't have a problem with that, if they want to oppose the wearing of animal skins, fine, though, I note, this rule only seems to apply to famous females near cameras, there's a decided lack of PETA members, for example, attempting to force Hells Angels not to wear leather by throwing things at them ;)

However, what about the insects that die in their thousands, their eggs, probably in the six-figures, washed away by insecticides, even natural ones? They are animals too, and yet, in order for PETA members to enjoy their lentil soup, how many animals were consigned to oblivion? The animal kingdom doesn't just include the harmless, the cute, the fluffy and the humorously quirky.

So be warned, everyone eating a pure vegetarian diet will lead to higher agricultural demand, which will lead to more use of insecticides, which will, in turn, lead to the death of countless of our 6-legged friends...

I think we should change the name of greenfly to 'Corn Kittens' ;)

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I think I remember seeing a study saying if you take into account the animals died for crops to feed the slaughtered animals, less animals will die if you become vegetarian.

Of course your average PETA member might not know this, they've just been seeing too much of PETA's meet your meat videos and that's all it took.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

This is not the first bullshit publicity stunt PETA has pulled, and it isn't the worst.

Anybody remember "Holocaust on your Plate"? Where they juxtaposed pictures of Jews in Buchenwald with cows in slaughterhouses? Where they showed pictures of dead jews in piles, and put them next to slaughtered Pigs

PETA fills me with a loathing so deep it has to be measured in kilometers. These people are idealistic fairies, pretending that the world could be absolutely perfect, with pacifism all around and all animals and people living in harmony; and at the same time are ridiculously Misanthropic, supporting terrorists who murder Doctors over animal testing, making the holocaust comparable to the meat and leather industry, saying "The leather sofa and handbag are the moral equivalent of the lampshades made from the skins of people killed in the death camps." Bear in mind, this is their PRESIDENT saying this.

I hate PETA. They do NOT stand for the ethical treatment of animals; they stand for the trivialization of human suffering, while living in a fantasy world.

If anyone needs more PETA stupidity, I shall be happy to add more.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

This is the cover for a comic that PETA gives to children.

PETA wants Ben & Jerry's to use human breast milk instead of cow milk to make their ice cream.

PETA sent Armin Meiwes, a man who killed and butchered the flesh of a man he met on the internet, a vegetarian recipe book and a bunch of "veggie patties" and said that "What Meiwes has done happens every day in the meat industry".

PETA is opposed to "all animal exploitation", which includes pets.

PETA has tried to make the Queen of England Guard to stop wearing their fuzzy hats.

PETA sent $30,000 to a man who firebombed universities that did animal testing.

This is all I can think of for now.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

I'm very surprised how... I don't know, CIVIL this fued has been. If it's even a fued. When I saw Majesco's response, I half expected they were going to sue PETA for copyright or trademark infringement or something. I thought it was pretty cute how they turned it into a plug for the next game in the series.

Then PETA's response is a bit exaggerated, but considering some of the stuff they've said in the past, I fully expected it to be pretty far out there - Holocaust comparisons, namecalling, the whole nine yards. They've been pretty shameless sometimes. By comparison, this seems almost reasonable.

Almost reasonable, anyway. Even if I stopped eating any plant matter whatsoever, I don't think I could squeeze down 100 animals worth of meat on my own in just one year - I'm going to need help on the bigger ones at least.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

They are just upset that the SPCA is so much better than they are.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

If Mama would go veg and save said 100 animals then that means I would have to vow to pick up the slack and eat mine AND Mama's share. (Yes I'm aware that Mama is a fictional character, but still)

Who wants to bet that sooner or later Peta will take the 'every time you masturbate God kills a kitten' poster seriously and demand people stop masturbating you know for the kittens?

You know I just thought of something. Let's say milk, eggs, meat, fur, animal testing, horse races and all that other crap peta wants banned actually gets banned then they'll probably become one of those 'think of the children' groups only replace children with animals.

Actually now that I think about it, if all that stuff was banned tomorrow, PETA would be skinned alive by an angry mob, and possibly turned into Soylent green.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

"By adopting a vegetarian diet, you can save more than 100 animals per year."

Yeah ok this statement makes a lot of sense. If i become a vegetarian I can save 100 domesticated animals that can't survive in the wild and are bred to feed me.

"Plus, vegetarians live longer and have a considerably lower carbon footprint."

There is no proof whatsoever to back up this first claim. Does anybody remember that 20/20 episode with those emaciated vegetarians that had to have special supplements because eating no meat was killing them? And as for the second part... do they even know what a carbon footprint is? I'm sure the electric oven I use to cook my animals doesn't exactly contribute that significantly to my carbon footprint. Every report I can find on the great and holy internet says vegetarians are stupid if they think they live longer than omnivores.

"I know that—as you are a digital being—these benefits don’t exactly apply to you, but I still urge you to take the pledge to be veg for 30 days."

As for this statement... I will take the pledge to be a carnivore for a week. I'd love to slaughter thousands more innocent little cows so I can eat only 3lb steaks all day.

Hasn't science proved plants have feelings? Aren't they alive. STOP KILLING PLANTS YOU SILLY VEGETARIANS! ETHICAL TREATMENT FOR ALL LIVING CREATURES!!! (last time I checked plants are alive)

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

And what are those 100 animals going to do? Set them loose and they'll be roadkill or a wild creature's lunch within a week. PETA fails to realize that domesticate animals--yes, even farm livestock--can have pretty good lives. They get health care, shelter, and a constant food source. They also get a quick death instead of wasting away from old age or starvation or getting eaten alive by other animals. Seems like the domesticate animals are getting a pretty good deal.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

Anti-PETA movement!

This year, for thanksgiving, slaughter your own turkey!

I actually was going to do this this year after seeing it, and e-mail a video to peta. Was gonna feather it and use the feathers as a hat, and leave the corpse.

Damn leather-wearing hippocrites use animal products all over the place. Their buckets of blood makes me want to take a certain 4chan meme involving buckets and throw a few of those on them.

Re: PETA Responds to Majesco Responding to PETA on Cooking Mama

By switching to vegetarianism, you MIGHT be saving a few hundred SLAUGHTERHOUSE animals each year, this is true.

Of course... by switching to vegetarianism, you'd be killing off the millions of smaller animals that get killed each year when farmers prepare land, sow it, maintain it, and harvest it. Ever see a fawn AFTER it's been chewed up by a wheat harvesting combine? It only works for PETA because as long as people to don't to report or think about minced vole brains and guts in their Wonderbread, they can delude themselves into thinking their alternative is somehow better. It'd be inconvenient if they had to say otherwise.
