It's hardly a surprise, but the British Board of Film Classification has officially rated Sega's upcoming Madworld with an 18 certificate.
The BBFC noted that Madworld "contains very strong, stylised, bloody violence."
No edits to the game were required. As GamePolitcs reported last August, Sega was said to be working closely with the BBFC to avoid a ban such as was imposed on Rockstar's controversial Manhunt 2 in 2007.
A British family values group, Mediawatch-UK, has called for a ban on the bloody Wii title.
Madworld is scheduled to launch on March 31st in the U.K. Here in the United States, Madworld is set for March 10th release. The ESRB has not yet issued a rating.
UPDATE: Edge is reporting that Madworld has also been cleared for sale in Australia.

I'm pretty sure the game's own advertisements are focusing on the game's 'strong, stylized, bloody violence.' The game looks like not a whole lot more than eight to twelve hours of nasty, brutal, Sin-City style death. (And I'll probably get it when it comes out - because I think it looks cool and because I want to support decent third-party games on the Wii.)
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
Hardly a surprise, there was never any doubt over a BBFC ban, it was all just PR from Sega.
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
Hurray it comes out uncut and uncensored in the UK. Hope the same happens here in America. If not I'll import the uncut version from the UK and use my Wii freeloader to play it.
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
I wouldn't worry about the US release. It cannot possibly be as bad as Manhunt 2 on a violence and gore level. It is too stylized for that.
I would however worry about it's Austrailia and Germany Releases. That is where the majority of ratings issues arise.

Wont supprised if it gets banned here (Australia). We just got a green light to receive a censored version of Silent Hill: Homecommin
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
best part of that joke is that the australian censors get a written brief on the game and only are required to see 10 minutes of the games possible contentious scenes, thats it.
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
Indeed that is the best part considering 10 minutes proberbly how MadWorld just scored MA15+ unedited
Re: Madworld Rated 18 for British Market
Yeah, blood and guts usually makes it over here with no prob. It's when people start getting naked that the black markers start coming out.
