January 19, 2009 -
In recent times the U.S. Army has been under fire from critics for employing video games as a means of attracting potential recruits.
But an ad we spotted on CNN.com last evening shows that the Army is now dangling the prospect of winning gaming hardware - specifically the Xbox 360 - as a recruiting enticement.
The freely-distributed first-person shooter America's Army has been around for a number of years, of course. More recently, the Army began taking an interactive exhibit around the country and opened a $12 million game/recruiting center in Philadelphia.

You join the army, get a 360....
I wonder who'd red ring first.
Re: Army Using Xbox 360 Give-away To Attract Recruits
Too bad I already have an Xbox. If it was a PS3 or a wii there wouldn't have been any games I wanted to play on it anyway. I also have a Wii. That gathers dust.
Besides, I spent WAY more time training on Halo then anything else if we were in Barracks that week.

Notice the add says "register to win" not "sign up to win." I think it's basically one of those 'contests' to get loads of new names/e-mails etcetera to send more advertising/propaganda to.
Besides... It ought at least have a custom camouflage case to interest me...

Hmmm... I wonder if the needed permission from MS to have this promotion? But then I doubt MS would refuse incase they ended up on the receiveing end of a boycott, probably started by Faux news
Re: Army Using Xbox 360 Give-away To Attract Recruits
Are you serious? If NAMBLA buys a bunch of 360s and wants to give them away, they don't need Microsoft's permission. Its their property to be disposed of as they wish.

Re: Army Using Xbox 360 Give-away To Attract Recruits
If I where an American I would probably say, do I want to win an X-box 360 in the possible chance that I would return home in a body bag? Is winning a console worth that risk? The answer would be a short answer NO! I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one that thinking such a thing either.

Re: Army Using Xbox 360 Give-away To Attract Recruits
War out is the battlefield shouldn't be about fun, it should be about duty and serving your country. I think that idea gets lost when you associate the army with the possibility of a free 360.

Ahh, a broken mess, a perfect metaphor for everything they've done in the middle east.
If they want to increase recruitment, they should give out Wiis.

Re: Army Using Xbox 360 Give-away To Attract Recruits
A wii would definetely be child recruitment since only a child or mentally impaired person would want one. I'd rather they give away a ps3 though, already have an xbox.

or a PS3, not trying to start a fanboy flame war.
