Police Dismiss Video Game Link in Portland Shooting Rampage

It appears that investigators in Portland, Oregon are not focusing on rampage shooter Erik Ayala's fondness for violent video games.
The Portland Mercury spoke with Detective Mark Slater of Portland P.D., who commented on reports that linked linked the 24-year-old Ayala to Left 4 Dead and Resistance: Fall of Man:
[Local newspaper] The Oregonian prompted controversy on Monday, January 26, when it reported that "one of the things that bought Ayala joy" was playing violent videogames. Slater said a copy of the videogame Grand Theft Auto III was found at Ayala's apartment, but said police were not pursuing a link between videogames and the shooting.
"There were a lot of videogames in the apartment," said Slater. "Of a wide variety of the kind you might find in any 24-year-old's apartment."
In regard to the video game angle, GamePolitics has learned that anti-game violence activist Jack Thompson unsuccessfully attempted to involve himself in the Ayala case. Thompson forwarded GP a copy of a January 26th e-mail in which the disbarred attorney complained to Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer that detectives weren't acting on his theory that video games prompted the rampage:
Dear Chief Sizer:
I have information that would be useful to establish further the apparent causal link between the violent video game play of alleged killer Ayala and the recent incident at the teen club.
Some detective in the Bureau with whom I spoke has been compromised by the video game industry, and he was anticipating my call.
I think your Bureau and you put public safety ahead of the pro-video game bias and gaming activities of this detective.
Please have some responsible detective contact me on this, as these incidents tied to games are popping up all over the place. Thanks.
As GamePolitics has documented over the years, Thompson characteristically makes contact with law enforcement personnel in the wake of shooting rampages to suggest that violent video games played a role.
Those contacts between Thompson and law enforcement officials have at times become contentious.
In 2007, for example, Thompson sued the Omaha Police Department for information concerning a troubled 18-year-old who opened fire at a local mall. Last year, Thompson threatened to sue the Public Safety Department of Northern Illinois University following a campus shooting spree committed by a 27-year-old man with a history of mental health problems. In both cases, the disbarred attorney sought evidence of video game play on the part of the shooters.

Good, Some common sense the police shown, I hope the current chief of police knows about thompsons disbarrment and his lies about video games and violence...And his supposed "Get rich quick scheme" off of victims.
And as the GTA3 game being found in his apartment, I dont know if PS2 games are compatable with a PS3, Im not sure.
But the police themselves claim that the PS3 was the only system he ever owned when they searched his apartment.
Depends on the model of PS3 I believe. The first gen USA 60gig ones do but I think any of the Euro models do.
In the "will" posted before the shooter states that it is a "fully backwards compatable" 60gig PS3.
60-gig and 20-gig were nearly fully b/c. The first 80-gig model out of the chute was mostly b/c, but there were several PS2 titles that had some issues. The rest (including later 80-gigs) are not PS2 b/c at all.

The guys suicide note pointed out that his PS3 was 100% compatible with PS2 games, it had to have been one of the first generation ones.
This is not the least bit surprising. The police typically ignore the video game connection, because they believe it exonerates the perp. It's the same mentality that leads police to plant guns.
What a surprise that he had GTA in his possession. I shall be contacting the families of the victims to tell them of the cause of action they now have against Take-Two.
On the truth side of the ledger, we now have the Ohio Judge in the Petric case who believes video games had everything to do with the perp's shooting of his parents. He came to that conclusion with no input from me.

John Bruce doesn't come across as a Red Mana card. I would say he is more of a blue card. Blues like to through around paper alot and have a tendancy to think themselves more powerful than they really are.
Reds can actually damage other players. John Bruce cannot.
So Change him to a blue mana creature with 0 attack and 1 defense and you have him.
I would also change his special ability changed to a two parter.
1. tap + 2 blue mana - Baseless threat. Tap one creature your opponent controls.
2. tap + 4 blue mana - Living in Denial - If the damage caused would kill John Bruce, instead of being put in the graveyard, John Bruce stays in play as long as he is tapped. If john Bruce becomes untapped, remove him from the game.

i would say he's closer to a uncolored (AKA artifact) card like artifacts or a red-blue combo card and your being way to generous 2/2 i would classify him as a 0/1 or 0/2 withe the abilitys JT is immune to any effect that gives JT +X/+X, or any ability. JT must attack every turn it is able. Each Time JT attacks add a -1/-1 counter to one of the creatures of whoever is in control of JT. JT cannot block.

And, Jacky Boy, the families do not have any course of action against Take-Two, idiot, since there is no evidence of anything involving video games, according to the police. And the fact that the shooter was not a U.S. citizen and the majority of his victims were foreign exchange students indictate that they'd have no case, just like every suit you've filed against the industry over the years. Come to think of it, by contacting the families and giving legal advice to them, wouldn't that be "practicing law without a license"?
As far as the Ohio judge goes, that same judge also said in that same solioquy that Petric's "video game defense" "wasn't a defense". Besides that, Petric's actions(trying to plant the gun on his dying father after he shot him) proved that the "video game defense" was, is, and ever will be a fraud, a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people like your worthless ass.

Even if the game was found in this murder's belongings that STILL doesn't mean that the game which MAY make a person more agressive was without a shadow of a doubt the cause in this instance. Furthermore your studies that you misquote only say that they may make a person more aggressive. Those studies do NOT say that they may make a person go on a rampant killing spree. Aggression =/= Murder.

Any psychologist would qualify this as paranoid, and maybe even slightly schizophrenic. When I say JT needs psychological help, I am not saying it to be mean. I seriously believe it would be for his best interest. Like I said before, he isn't a bad guy, he has amazing intentions, just he is mixed up on fantasy paranoid world and the real world. I hope that one day he will get the help that he so evidently needs. Not for the gaming community, not for the game industry, but for him. It is not healthy to be so paranoid.

It's definitely true that this isn't the least bit surprising... that the Traitor John Bruce "Jack" Thompson would attempt to lie, deceive, defraud, and attempt to illegally tamper with a formal investigation and now threatens to tamper with witness testimony.
It takes a really sick, perverted, obscene, immoral individual to commit such acts as lying, deceiving, and misinforming police and citizens about tragic events just to push one's personal, religious, and/or political agendas to create a dictatorship based on their own belief system.
As to the claim, most likely false, that an industry individual discussed squat with the detective, it's more likely that the detective considered the avenue because of the comments by posters on the initial articles mentioned (as the articles themselves were fairly decent and not really blaming anything), and dismissed the possibility after doing as thorough an investigation as possible at that time, which is the act of an honorable, ethical, investigator. I have the same question. Does John Bruce have investments in that company? Aside from that, I cannot think of any reason he has chosen that particular package over some other comparable solution.
Personally, what bugs me about the software is that I can't find an easily accessible demo of it. The website does not have one and they only list one site that uses it and I don't feel like going through the motions of purchasing wine in order to see the software in action.

Right now I can't say for sure how many of the GTA series have sole, even if you only counted from GTAIII on. The number is well in the multi-millions.

This is not the least bit surprising. The police typically ignore the video game connection, because they believe it exonerates the perp. It's the same mentality that leads police to plant guns.
