Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

February 21, 2009 -

Government censors in Singapore have cleared Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, despite the game's well-publicized snippet of male nudity.

The Straits Times reports that Singapore's Media Development Authority reviewed the game:

Mr Ernest Khoo, head of video games and media content at MDA, said that whether full-frontal male nudity is allowed depends on the context in which it occurs.

In this expansion pack, he said, the depiction is 'non-sexual and can hence fall within the M18 rating', which is also the rating given to the original GTA IV. He added that with the M18 rating, only those 18 years old and above will be buying the game and its expansion pack.

Going by the video game classification system MDA introduced last year, games for online download do not need to be sent for classification before sale here.

Okaying GTA IV L&D is another indication that Singapore has loosened its approach to game content since briefly banning Mass Effect in 2007.

Good news for Rockstar, and freedom of speech in video games.

I think if the expansion pack was sold it stores it would cause a lot more controversy. With the exception of Xbox Live MS point cards, people need credit cards to buy this add on, and that means asking an adult or having your own (Which means you are 18 years old anyway...[Most of the time anyway]).

This is Singapore, where chewing gum is illegal. Could one really expect any less from the place?

Boobs clear, but female nipples don't.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

*gasp* Those bastards!

[/sarcasm]

TBH, it's no surprise. Trust them not to get all butthurt over a naked guy, since they obviously think guys won't fap to it (obviously oblivious to the gay part of the male population), but to demand the game pulled or edited when it's a girl being shown in full glory.

*EPIC FACEPALM*

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

I seem to be saying this a lot these days, but what are you talking about?  It has nothing to do with whether guys find it appealing.  It's all about the context of the situation.  The male nudity in GTA IV isn't part of a sex scene...the partial nudity in Mass Effect was, so it got banned.  Even then, they reversed their decision after the BFC reviewed it.

Try reading the articles through next time instead of rushing just so you can post another facepalm.

I think that was the most retarded thing you have ever said. Also, stop doing Facepalm, it's annoying.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

I don't get why people are complaining. It's not like male gamers haven't seen a dick before. Hell, even the female gamers probably had a few inside them.

When Jack Thompson runs his mouth, does anyone really care what he has to say anymore?

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

They better have, or at least be at that age to play this game.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

Score one for free speech!

Even if it's horrible congressman genitals.... O.O

If you go crazy then I will still call you Superman.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

You know.....  Mostly guys play the GTA games, yeah?  So I don't really think it matters if they see something they see multiple times a day on themselves anyway.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

I don't know what you're talking about. I hadn't seen mine in years. *rimshot*

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

Less hamburgers, more physical activity

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

Good to see it released uncensored. :)

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

"He added that with the M18 rating, only those 18 years old and above will be buying the game and expansion pack." it would seem singapore is more level headed than the states ;)

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

I agree good to know that there is someone out there whose head is not surgicaly inserted in their ass.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

There are very few countries nowadays that are NOT more level headed than the states. Hell even South Africa allows same sex marriage.

Re: Singapore Okays GTA IV Expansion's Full Frontal

Nice. ^_^ Guess they're less crazy than all those watchgroups around the US.

Wonderkarpnever played it....atleast I dont think. May have rented it once from Blockbuster05/28/2015 - 3:27pm
Andrew EisenAnd I STILL say the ESRB misrated Forsaken 64. There is absolutely no reason that should be rated M.05/28/2015 - 3:23pm
Andrew EisenI just hope there a children and small animals in the game. Like dogs and cats. And elderly people on walkers and in wheelchairs.05/28/2015 - 3:20pm
Andrew EisenOh you meant "would have gotten an M rating 15 years ago" not "an M15 rating years ago." Oops!05/28/2015 - 3:19pm
Wonderkarpbut whatever. its a moot point. I'm curious if the game allows mods. I'd make the blood confetti with rainbows :P Turn the....is he really a protagonist?.... into Nathan Explosion cause seriously. Brendan Smalls gonna sue somebody05/28/2015 - 3:17pm
WonderkarpI know M is 17, but M can get sold in Walmart or Target, but they wont carry AO05/28/2015 - 3:14pm
Andrew EisenM is 17 but whatever. I'm wondering why Hatred still hasn't shown up in the ESRB's database.05/28/2015 - 3:13pm
Wonderkarpsomething like that, yeah. If like what Matthew said. "How did it get a AO rating to start with?" in comparison to games like Postal. If Postal gets an M and Hatred gets an AO, what other games could get AO that would have gotten an M 15 years ago?05/28/2015 - 3:11pm
Matthew Wilson@Wonderkarp the slippery slope is a fallacy. 2 Australian is bound by law, the esrb is not.05/28/2015 - 3:10pm
Andrew EisenKarp - I'm not following. Are you concerned that even more games are going to be rated AO or something?05/28/2015 - 3:08pm
WonderkarpI'm more worried that its a slippary slope to more Australian style ratings strictness.05/28/2015 - 3:06pm
Matthew Wilsontranslation the media overreacted to Hatred , and wrote a bunch of click bait article. I agree with the reviewer. how did it get a AO rating to start with?05/28/2015 - 3:00pm
Andrew EisenDestructoid has the first review of Hatred that I've seen. http://www.destructoid.com/review-hatred-292912.phtml05/28/2015 - 2:54pm
Wonderkarptransformers was so disapointing. I liked the first one because of the potential of the series, but then......ugh. shoot me now05/28/2015 - 1:52pm
james_fudgeGod I hate those Transformers movies so much.05/28/2015 - 1:43pm
Andrew EisenDefinitely a contender!05/28/2015 - 1:40pm
E. Zachary KnightTwilight? It made almost as much as the Transformers movies and is absolutely terrible.05/28/2015 - 1:36pm
Andrew EisenDevin Faraci over at Birth.Movies.Death calls the Transformers movies "the worst successful franchise in the history of motion pictures." I was like "oh, come on!" but I realized I couldn't think of a successful franchise that's worse. Can you?05/28/2015 - 1:26pm

Infophile@Wonderkarp. Yeah, that's ads. Some advertisers use a trick to open up an appstore address, which forces the phone to shift over to it. I wish providers would be more diligent about it, even if all they can do is punish offenders after it happens05/28/2015 - 10:33am
