Gamers who live in the state of New York are already experiencing a benefit from President Obama's recently-passed stimulus package.
CNN reports that New York has scrapped a plan to tax digital downloads such as iTunes music and video game DLC.
Instead, Gov. David Paterson and New York legislators will utilize $1.3 billion in stimulus money to help balance the state budget.

Re: Stimulus Money Convinces New York to Nix Digital ...
Um, I live in NY state and I am already paying 8.75% sales tax on PSN games bought from the PSN store and Wii points when bought from a store or on a site like Amazon. Not sure about Wii points from the Wii shop channel because I have never tried. So your saying they were gonna add another tax to these items, they are already taxed, and they have always been taxed.

What a great use of stimulus money. Balance the state budget instead of using it to STIMULATE THE FUCKING ECONOMY.
Of course, I saw this coming. But still, I would've expected at least a bit better from New York.
Re: Stimulus Money Convinces New York to Nix Digital ...
So we use tax money to make sure we don't get any more taxes?
...
I'm actually not sure how I feel about that. It's better than them getting the stimulus money and then still adding taxes at least.
Though it doesn't stop them from raising taxes on cigarettes. Went up to 7.40 a pack yesterday. >_>

Well, I'm glad he was able to SEE why these taxes were a bad idea.

Re: Stimulus Money Convinces New York to Nix Digital ...
i bet the real reason isn't the stimulus but the fact patterson is good as ousted once we yorkers get a chance at him.
the guys actually been rated lower than spitzer! how do you get a rep lower than a prostitute buying moron?
Re: Stimulus Money Convinces New York to Nix Digital ...
Maybe its because its a moron minus the prostitue buying. xD

Well, Spitzer did have a decent reputation going for him from his AG days before the whole prostitute thing was brought to light. After people found out about him frequenting prostitutes, he resigned too quickly for it to have much impact on his ratings.

Re: Stimulus Money Convinces New York to Nix Digital ...
So our tax money is being used to make sure we don't have to pay more taxes (assuming you live in New York)?
Ok so it's fed taxes vs. state taxes but still.
