A message (see pic at left) posted on popular game download site Newgrounds has led to the arrest of a 16-year-old British youth.
According to a CBC report, 21-year-old J.P. Neufeld, a college student in Montreal, noticed the teen's message which indicated that he planned to burn down his school:
"I saw this thread started by this guy. It didn't seem serious at first. It said that today at 11:30 a.m. GMT I will commit violence and other forms of arson against my school [in Norfolk]. He had posted a picture of a gas can"...
Police were able to track down information about the suspect and school—leading them to an arrest. A 16-year-old male in possession of a knife, matches and canister of flammable liquid was taken into custody outside the school.

Anybody notice the signature of his post is from the Columbine shooting security cameras? Look at the date (4-20-99).

Glad to see this posted there. It made the news on all the local newspaper in Québec (where I and the college student lives).
Neufeld said in said article "Threats written on the Internet never should be taken lightly." He's right in a sense. Every shooters in school shooting left at least a warning on either the Internet or amongst their peers before going for the act.

Newgrounds has its share of pretentious assholes, that I can imagine such threats not being taken into consideration. Good Job taking action!

In an off-topic comment, check out Alvin-Earthworm's sprite-using flash, Super Mario Bros. Z in Newgrounds. (It's more faithful to the characters than it sounds, that I'm suprised it wasn't made by Nintendo staff)
Sorry, if it sounds a bit like spam, but it sure as Hell made my day...

I love that series!
Back on topic, why do all these crazy folk tell everybody what they're going to do?
Crazy Kid: "Look at me! I'm going to go blow up my school, everybody!"
Police: "No you're not!"
Re: U.K. School Arson Thwarted After Threat Posted on Game ...
For the same reason they're trying to blow up/burn down/shoot up thier school. It's saying HEY LOOK AT ME I'M THE GUY THAT BLEW UP THAT SCHOOL! TAKE THAT SOCIETY/PARENTS/PEERS/ETC
The more people that know about it, then the better. And if you can say that your going to do something, no one belives you, and then they see that you did it, its even stronger.
