Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video Games

Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video Games

April 1, 2009

Issues such as the recession, healthcare and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are likely to keep President Barack Obama's attention away from video games, said Reggie Fils-Aime (left).

The Nintendo of America chief also believes that the video game industry is in a better position politically than it has been in the past.

Fils-Aime made his comments during a wide-ranging interview with GameDaily:

We have the first sitting president with a multiple gaming household, between the Wii and the DS. I believe that our president has more pressing issues to deal with, from the economy to the military conflicts.

Certainly, as an industry, we've met with representatives of Congress and other parts of our government. What they see is an industry that is mainstream, is creating jobs and is creating vibrant forms of entertainment. Those are all positive things for this country. So we are in a more favorable legislative environment compared to five or six years ago.

Um, how many firsts can we add more to Barack obama

First african american president

First Tech savy President

First president who owns a Truckload of Comics

The very first president to own a game console(Wii)

Notice a coincidence here

Watching JT on GP is just like watching an episode of Jerry springer only as funny as the fights

I would suspect that because there have been few US presidents, there would be vast lists of 'Firsts' for all of them.

Nontheless, having a geek in the Whitehouse is worth a smile every now and then. The fact that the most powerful and influential person in the world is someone that the internet generation can relate to in so many ways will surely be a boost both for his popularity and for the acceptance of policies he implements, especially after the tech-phobic bush administration.

What's your point?  He hasn't actually accomplished anything yet.

Gore,Violence,Sexauilty,Fear,Emotion these are but modes of transportation of story and thought, to take them from society you create a society of children and nannys, since adults are not required.

Well, until he is willing to look into legalization of pot and prostitution to quit wasting government money jailing those people ($30,000/person), make money off of their transactions they are doing anyways, and put restrictions on things like age, qualify, and location, I am not really concerned in what he is doing.  That is unless he comes up with a better idea, and it would help with the economy, health care, and aggression in other countries, most noticeably Mexico.  It would also lower crime, open up room in our jails for real criminals, not with a lot of pot heads, and go back a little to this country being free.  Though I dont smoke, drink, or use prostitutes.

Glad about the article Den-Den.

But wait?; Didnt Honeycakes email obama about banning "murder simulators", when obama is probably a gamer himself, I remember obama owns a Wii, I think.

Yeah, that's what people said about his take on the 2nd amendment too, don't worry, he'll be too busy.  But he's already tried to triple the cost of ammunition once, using an executive order.

Be wary of this kind of thinking.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video ...

Probably going to have to agree with you on this one.  I'm doubting that increasing ammo costs in the US is going to reduce crime any.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video Games

So, now certain peopel will want him impeached?

Re: Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video Games

Reggie's too busy raking in the inifinite amount of cash flow from the casual gaming crowd to stop the bad shovelware from getting onto the Wii.  Of course Obama doesn't have time for this. Two wars, closing Guantanamo, a bad economy and getting criticized at virtually every turn by the party of No, I wouldn't worry about it either if I were him.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie: Obama Too Busy To Worry About Video Games

Obama has allot on his plate, so I think we should all let him try to run America the best way he can and each night he can come home to his family and play some Wii with his kids.

Although I don't know if they would be playing anything like Madworld for example,  I am sure that he is able to understand the ESRB to decide what games he buys for his kids.
