Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

April 2, 2009

What are the odds of having two Jack Thompson debate stories in a single day?

That's how today, played out, though.

Just after GamePolitics posted about tonight's Thompson-Gerard Jones debate, Law of the Game blogger - and practicing attorney - Mark Methenitis e-mailed to say that he will be debating Thompson at SGC 09 on July 4th. Mark believes that he is the first attorney to debate Thompson on video game issues.

The Screw Attack website adds that there will be more just the Thompson-Methenitis ten-rounder:

In addition to the debate, Thompson will also participate in a special pre-screened question and answer panel where attendees will have the opportunity to pick the brain of one of gaming’s most notorious critics.

Pick JT's brain huh...well, if it will deflate his ego.

Heh heh... Jack... Brain...

Funny stuff, man.

Bet Jack'll cancel this if he loses tonight's debate. As long as no idiots try to pull anything today, that may be the case.

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack finds a way to Welch out on this one. One thing we know about Jack is he never goes up against an opponent who is just as, if not more qualified to speak on legal matters as he is. I still remembered how he backed out of the debate with Tom Buscaglia, citing what he interpreted as some insulting remarks he made. And we all know how he backed out  of the PAX appearance as well. And even if it was over concerns over his safety, remember he was the one who shot his mouth off about the whole thing in the first place.

If he does deign to show up, though and he submits to the Q&A, I wouldn’t expect much in the way of enlightening answers from him. You know it’s going to be a variation of one of the following three answers. He’ll either…

  1. Cite brain scan studies and make continuous references to various school shooting including Paducha, Columbine, Erfurt, V-Tech, etc. (And probably bring up his 60 Minutes appearance for good measure).

  1. Say how all his actions have been motivated by his religious faith.

  1. Say, “I’m not going to tell you.”
Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

The proper response to "I'm not going to tell you" is, "Well, will you tell the audience then?  They're the ones deciding if you're full of **** or not, so you ought to throw them a bone."

pre-screened by whom?

BTW, Dennis, it's not "Screw Attack" it's "ScrewAttack" (no space).

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

I'm still waiting to see if Soulja Bitch will accept the challenge by the ScrewAttack guys at SGC.

When Jack Thompson runs his mouth, does anyone really care what he has to say anymore?

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

I wonder how screwattack pulled this one off.

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack ...

Didn't Thompson already debate attorney Sheila Tuma on video game issues? And lose?

Picking walnuts from their shell should be good practice for picking Jack Thompson's brain.

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack ...

I see what you did there.

Saying that Jack Thompson is impotent is an insult to impotent men everywhere. They've got a whole assortment of drugs that can cure their condition; Jack, however...

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

He'll back out of it for whaever reason...

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack Thompson

No matter how many debates this guy is in, he has already lost the real debate in court.

Re: Law of the Game's Mark Methenitis to Debate Jack ...

Hopefully they won't call him a "Lawyer" and give him the proper title of Disbarred lawyer, or disgraced lawyer, or hell, just plain Jack Thomson, that name is an insult on it's own.

Austin_Lewis: Yes, and what a piece of crap it was. Arresting and fining people just because they don't make a personal choice to buy healh insurance, creating over a hundred new bureacracies, and worse.

JDKJ: Which could be explained by both (a) and (b).
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:56am
Austin_Lewis: JDKJ: You forgot C) the fact that, for some reason, every time he did something that would suggest he shouldn't be in the military, let alone an officer, higher ups ignored it or let it slide.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:51am
JDKJ: Part of the problem is, I believe, that (a) the Army had a lot of time and money already invested in him and which they were unwilling to simply write-off and (b) an increasing need for the type of skills and services he provided.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:48am
JDKJ: And that even if he was begging not to get cut loose, he was apparently a real good candidate for being cut loose, anyway.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:11am
JDKJ: @chada: And while Kennedy once noted that there's usually more than enough blame for everyone to get a slice, the possibility that the Army was unwilling to cut loose someone who was asking to get cut loose could be a factor.

JDKJ: But if it turns out that they actually did, they'll have Hell to pay.

JDKJ: And I'd tend to rule out the possibilty of FN Herstal supplying restricted ammunition to someone merely because they're ordering it from a military base.
