European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

April 9, 2009

The European Parliament will convene a video game conference next week, reports Edge Online.

The gathering will promote the economic and cultural benefits of the game business. Dutch MEP Jules Maaten (left), who is coordinating the event, said:

Europe has to encourage the further development of creative sectors like the games industry. Everybody would gain from such additional focus: the developers, the economy, but also the consumer and I’m advocating an EU programme for the stimulation of the European games industry.

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

Would LOVE to see Germany's response to this, considering their recent desires to BAN various media products.  I don't see Australia among the list of states of the Union, so at least there's one less problem for them to deal with.

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

While Australia is technically a part of the Brittish Commonwealth, they have very little to do with Europe, which is on the wrong side of the planet for them.
Austria is a different matter ofcourse.

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

...yay?  Great for business?

Is this more like E3, or just a business-related conference?

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

It's an EU conference, expect boredom and lots of people abusing expense accounts.

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

Heh, I pictured it as business and political-mided people trying to grasp the technical understanding of the creation of games. "Today we are going to discuss what polygon count means and why is it so important..."

Re: European Parliament to Hold Video Game Conference

From the sounds of it its business-related, though i won't be surprised if some nut job comes in screaming "voilent games shall kill us all."

ZenI felt Brutal Legends was a funny & beautiful look at the world of rock from Double Fines point of view. The only parts I wasn't hot for were the RTS bits as it felt forced. Otherwise fantastic.02/12/2012 - 1:34pm
DorthLousPassed 1.5M$. And I'd also say that Brutal Legend is far from being a bad game. I just think it was a few levels under what people expected from the people working on the project.02/11/2012 - 8:25am
TechnogeekBrutal Legend wasn't bad so much as "marketing had no idea how the game actually played", causing it to suffer accordingly.02/10/2012 - 10:38pm
