Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent Video Game Law

May 21, 2009 -

The Media Coalition, a free speech defense trade group has criticized California's Supreme Court appeal of a lower court decision striking down its violent video game law as unconstitutional.

Media Coalition Executive Director David Horowitz said in a statement:

We are very disappointed that the California Governor and Attorney General have decided to spend the state’s scarce resources to ask the Supreme Court to carve out a new exception to the First Amendment.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals earlier declined the state’s invitation to create a new class of speech outside of the First Amendment. This is settled law. In recent years, in addition to California, similar laws in Indianapolis, Michigan, Illinois, St. Louis County, Minnesota, and Washington attempted to ban video games with certain violent content were uniformly found unconstitutional.

Media Coalition members include video game industry trade groups the Entertainment Software Association (game publishers) and Entertainment Merchants Association* (game retailers). It was these two entities which originally brought suit against the California law in 2005.

The Entertainment Consumers Association is also a Media Coalition member.

* Prior to its 2006 merger with the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association, the Entertainment Merchants Association was known as the Video Software Dealers Association, and the California case continues as VSDA v. Schwarzenegger.

Re: Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent Video

let me get this straight

he's not just spending money he cant afford to spend hes spending money he doesnt have? at all?
and this is draining money from schools and even more importantly hospitals?

does that mean what I think it means? some people cant afford some operations medications check up? etc etc

and does that mean what I think it means? that some people (children included) could potentially die because of this? due to lack of care or not spotting a condition soon enough etc etc?

think of the children indeed

wait did you say on fire? they cant even afford to fund fire stations adequately? what about the police anyone know? makes you wonder how many are suffering and dying due to this bull

someone needs to send him a list of names whats happend to them and how his actions are responsible

Re: Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent Video

I agree with you on some of that...Better yet, I'd wish Gov, Sharwtzenstupid was impeached for wasting money on what COULD have funded police, Doctors, Teachers and even community centers activites that would have kept children and young adults away from the problems of crime and such, And its even funny and hypocritical that Arnuld swhartzenstupid PERFORMED in violent movies and MAY'VE been possibly in the current terminator salvation film.

Yeah...At this time it's actually better to think of the children when you have problems like this...I guess that not only did arnold killed a tree...He's going to have blood on his hands cause of the rates of deaths from illness that could have been prevented or certain crimes that could be stopped.

"Scarce" resources?

I think the correct phrase is "FUCKING NON-EXISTANT" resources.

Re: Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent Video

Considering that at any given moment, some big part of the state is on fire, that's more true than many would care to admit.

Re: Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent ...

I couldn't sleep last night; I've a toothache that's reaking hell in my jaw. I can't do much more than pain killers because MediCal doesn't cover dentistry anymore. Same goes for my 2-year-old daughter who will never see another check-up until I can fund it out of my own pocket. And this is just the tip of the iceburg. Education is getting slashed, teachers are getting cut, and budgets are shrinking. So when Schwartzeneggar says he cares about the children, don't you believe a word of it.

Re: Media Coalition Slams California Appeal of Violent Video

Clearly, all those politicians and the PTC should go and get a life for all I care.

They don't care about Videogames, they only care to look good.

And to be all honest, it is all but a complete joke.

All this chest thumping and staming going on by the Politicians like Yee and also the PTC serves nothing but to bully the Videogame Industry and retailers in Caliafornia who are honest good working citizins.

Even if the Surpreme court rules that the 2006 bill against Violent Videogames is unconstitutional, it will never stop those politicians and family groups from bullying other people.

That is really just pathetic. I honestly can't see any reason... also the ESRB has M17+ rating on their games, that should be enough warning for parents to make them decide for themselves.

To Yee and Arnald and the PTC, get a life you bastards.
