Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

June 3, 2009

Today's edition of the Dr. Phil show will re-air an episode on game addiction which features Brad D. (left) of ExGamer.net.

As GamePolitics reported in October, 2008 when the show initially aired, Brad speaks frankly about a suicide attempt.

Also appearing on the program is Wendy Kays, author of Game Widow.

This is, of course, purely coincidence and not an attempt at cashing in on- or grabbing attention away from- E3.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Dr. Platitude is doing something just for the money? No... really?

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Oh crap, my mom watches Dr. Phil sometimes.  I'll have to give her a call or something to distract her from it.  Maybe I'll tell her there's something interesting on the CBC, though knowing my luck it'll be a repeat of that lousy Fifth Estate episode.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Dr Phil is only just a guy making money out of telling people how to run their lives, but he is not really that great.

I just chose not to watch him even though my parents do.

Like the guys from nintendo said, there are people who love to play Videogames, People who might like to play Videogames and people who just won't play videogames.

But the majority of people in this world are the "Might like to play" Videogame players. and I don't think anything is going to change that not matter how much Dr Phil might try to lie about Videogame Addiction.

Like seriously, I felt like punching him in the face for not taking a stand against the mother who was despressed over her son's suicide and how she was telling gamers that what they play was not real, that is just as insulting as telling a Christian that there is no god.

But I guess people from different generations and cultures don't care about other people who are different.

And neither should we, we should just enjoy our videogames instead of feeling sad all the time.

Because that is what THEY want us to be so THEY can portray us as violent, dumb, unintelligent and even fat or addicted adults.

THEY take everything positive out of Videogames and spin it into a Negative.

THEY are in the group who will NEVER play Videogames because they DON'T want to. Not only that but they have grown up in a generation where they were told to force people into their beliefs.

And that is something that I will NEVER listen to no matter how bad they want to make us out to be.

Listen, just to listen to these people who go on and on about Videogame Addiction, because it will only make us sad in the long run.

And if we don't listen and we are able to game happily, we will win.

Just don't try to be like them and don't try to force your own opinion onto other people like THEY do.

Just allow others to game if they chose to, ok?

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Preach it brother! Can I get an Amen?

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Amen!

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Not saying you're wrong but I do believe "THEY" and those who listen to them are the ones wielding the majority of the political power. Never underestimate the power of Idiots in large groups.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

For some reason, the majority of the posters here are >18. /puzzled

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Why is is puzzling that most of the posters here are over 18?  Just because we game, doesn't mean we're children.  Just because we game, doesn't mean we don't have an opinion.  Just because we game, doesn't mean that what happens outside doesn't affect us.

Freedom of speech means the freedom to say ANYTHING, so long as it is the truth. This does not exclude anything that might hurt someone's feelings.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Pssst! That may have been sarcasm on the whole "Vidyagames are fur the children only"  thing.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

I'd watch it, but I'll be too busy gaming. And I won't be debating suicide either.

Oh wait... no, even if I had no games to play, I don't think I'd watch it. I'm recoving from an addiction to watching Dr. Phil.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

It would be lovely to get some criminologists, sociologists, or psychologists who don't live with their heads up their asses to go on tv and debunk this sort of thing. I've been trying to get 20/20 and 60 Minutes to let me debunk their bullshit, but they're not too keen on it.  Probably because it's too easy.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

............I'd rather watch Jack Thompson.......and that's really saying something.

I once had a dream about God. In it, he was looking down upon the planet and the havoc we recked and he said unto us, "Damn Kids get off my lawn!"

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

ExGamer.net? More like TraiterousBastard.net. Seriously dude, just because you have an addictive personality and can't shut off the game long enough to keep a job doesn't mean that all people are like this. And it's not like I hate that this guy is trying to spread awareness about game addiction and help people who are addicted. I hate that he's doing it on "Dr." Phil.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

ExGamer.net looks like it was written by Jack Thompson.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Dr Phil is a moron and i'll be watching e3 anyways...i agree with the guy a few posts up top though...to hell with these morons..i'll keep gaming and working on going pro

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

The term "Game Widow" is sexist, I'm offended as a Wow Widower.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

This is why I needed to back off GP (because Both sides(pixelante and censorcrat) would go on an Insane ego trip(over Video game abuse and video game violence) that'll drive me nuts(Repubs and dems do the same thing))

Note: for the record here I'm not threatening anyone, just trying to be the voice of reason here

Watching JT on GP is just like watching an episode of Jerry springer only as funny as the fights

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

Dr. Phil is a glorified version of Larry the Cable Guy.  Even Brittney Spears knows to stay away from that guy, and that's sayin' somethin', y'all...

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

I had been kinda slipping under the radar for a few months there with my little road show. Nothing like summer reruns for a hefty dose of rehashed derision served cold.

You'd rather watch Jack Thompson? I hope that's directed at Dr. Phil rather than me, cuz that one stings...

:P

Have a good summer folks.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

I think what he's suggesting is that if we had to view a media whore, he'd rather watch Jack Thompson than you.

You know, because at least what Jack Thompson has to say contains some (often hilariously disguised) relevance.  What you say is just anecdotal bullshit that shows you have an addictive personality and that you'd like to blame the games for it, rather than, you know, taking responsibility.  On a related note, a social worker friend of mine called me up and said you're probably due for a relapse, seeing as you don't seem to own up to your mistakes.  His words, not mine.

Re: Tivo Alert: Dr. Phil Re-Airs Game Addiction Program

I heard Dr Phill has a PHD in appealing to the mass of idiots.. along with: Jeremy Kyle, Jerry Springer, Oprah... see where I'm going with this?

Andrew Eisen: I'm still here and I'm doing a lot of behind the scenes work (as time permits me). But it's true, I've only written one piece under the new GP but if that Facebook/JT bit is the last thing I write for the site, I’d be okay with that.

JDKJ: And what happened to "Senior GP Correspondent, Andrew Eisen, reporting from San Diego [and who has a better finger on the pulse of GP's readership than some others]?" Huh? Did he fall victim to the Night of the Long Knives?
Posted 03/15/10 at 03:53pm
Andrew Eisen: No, but my one example was not meant to cover the entire spectrum. Besides, multiplayer is a big part of video games.

Andrew Eisen: PHX Corp - Are you referring to AB 847? I haven't read the bill but the summary doesn't appear to apply to video games.

DarkSaber: 2 mediocre games do not "a big part of video games" make.

DarkSaber: Although, following the "MW2 Made Lots of Money" excuse for a story, GP would be hard pressed to justify WHY they passed on it.

Andrew Eisen: DS - Not necessarily. See recent Ubisoft stories.
