Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

June 10, 2009 -

America's Army, the only video game in recent memory to generate a full-blown protest march, is getting an upgrade to v3.0; the new version will be carried by Valve's Steam service.

A press release issued by America's Army's P.R. consultant this morning announced that AA3 will be available as a free Steam download beginning on June 17th. In addition to Steam, fans can download the new version from other locations listed on the AA3 site.

Of the game's availability on Steam, Marsha Berry, senior executive producer for America's Army said:

We are very excited to work with Valve to distribute AA3 on Steam as it gives us access to great distribution technology as well as a tremendous user base. Additionally, we have incorporated Steamworks features such as Achievements and Steam Cloud to create a richer experience for Steam users.

Our relationship with Steam will broaden our reach to a new community and it offers our current players a great new way to get the America's Army game and keep it updated. Players will also be able to download AA3 using the America's Army Deploy Client from the Deploy network of providers listed on the America's Army download site.

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

Several weeks from release steam will lower the price to "zomg super free" for a sale weekend.

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

It would be hilarious if it got hijacked by L4D2 protestors though...

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

Thank god for no more download client which runs at like 5 kb per second.

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

Awesome.  No more having to deal with hours of downloading punkbuster, randomly scheduled updates, and, my personal favorite, never being able to find a goddamn game.

Re: Steam to Carry New Version of America's Army

This is good for me, no more need to search the internet just to get the latest version of AA.

Andrew EisenNot at all true. It's just the jerk faces that aren't willing to be decent, civil human beings. Everyone else is fine and more than willing to talk about stuff.05/04/2015 - 7:04pm
MattsworknameTrue andrew, but to my best effort research, i can find no indication of either side being willing to do that. As far as i can tell, neither side is willing to discusss or debate the other. They just keep attacking each other.05/04/2015 - 6:59pm
Andrew EisenSo... yep, hate should stop. Yep, no one should be bullied into self censorship. And yep, the portrayal of women in video games should be discussed. Not sure who (other than jerk faces) you're going to get to argue against any of that.05/04/2015 - 6:34pm
Andrew EisenThird, that’s a discussion that’s already being had. Unfortunately, it’s those darn jerk faces trying to shoot down and ultimately silence such discussions.05/04/2015 - 6:31pm
Andrew EisenSecond, no one wants to bully the industry into self censorship (except the aforementioned jerk faces who work towards exactly that) so that’s a short discussion too.05/04/2015 - 6:31pm
Andrew EisenOkay, first, I don't think anyone wanted hate or harassment (except the jerk faces pulling that crap) so not much to discuss there.05/04/2015 - 6:30pm
Craig R.I'd say I'm baffled how you can still have your head shoved so far in the sand, Goth, but I'm not.05/04/2015 - 6:23pm
Mattsworknamein05/04/2015 - 6:22pm
MattsworknameFirst, we can all agree the hate has to stop, second, we should discuss the different between wanting more inclusion and trying to bully the industry into self censorship, also, we should discuss not if women appear in games and how, but the context there05/04/2015 - 6:22pm
Andrew EisenWhat are some of the things you'd like to see discussed?05/04/2015 - 6:14pm
MattsworknameAs i said in my comment on the GG story, im hoping this both gets some of the media groups to take and unbiased look at gg and starts a path to reconciliation. Im tried of GG being a fight and not a discussion05/04/2015 - 6:05pm
Goth_SkunkI'm baffled speechless by that leap of logic.05/04/2015 - 5:48pm
Craig R.GG has done a great job making other people, such as Sarkeesian, relevant. But the nebulous group of hate and misogyny? Not so much.05/04/2015 - 5:45pm
Craig R.So every Twitch streamer who has been swatted is now incredibly relevant? Not buying it.05/04/2015 - 5:39pm
james_fudgeHopefully that will be the last update on that story. #tired05/04/2015 - 5:39pm
james_fudgeFYI We updated our story with comments from Arthur Chu and Christina Sommers.05/04/2015 - 5:38pm
Goth_Skunk@Craig: Your definition of 'safe' is peculiar then, because GG is anything but irrelevant. You don't call bomb threats on irrelevant groups of people, nor do you kick out pro-GG supporting expo exhibitors if they're irrelevant.05/04/2015 - 5:29pm
Matthew Wilsonhttp://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/04/prime-minister-of-singapore-shares-his-c-code-for-sudoku-solver/ got to admit this is kinda cool.05/04/2015 - 5:24pm
Andrew EisenThe Mary Sue isn't speculating, it's reporting. Matthew is speculating but that's fine in the Shout box. Hell, it's also fine to add a bit of speculation and opinion within your reporting too!05/04/2015 - 5:18pm
Craig R.I think it's safey to say that whether GG is dormant is irrelevant, since GG itself quickly became irrelevant05/04/2015 - 5:14pm
