As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are Missing in Action

June 17, 2009 -

The post-election tumult in Iran has taken a toll in Second Life, where Iranian members have been notably absent in recent day, reports New World Notes:

When the widespread protest... erupted last weekend, I went searching Second Life for Residents who lived in that country. According to Linden demographic stats published last year... there were over a hundred of them then, logging into Second Life on a regular basis...

Linden spokesman Peter Linden confirmed to me last night, "[W]e've not seen any log-ins from Iran." ...the utter lack of Iranian log-ins in the last few days suggests that Second Life is being blocked, or that Internet connectivity has become so degraded in that country, it's shut down by default...

For the moment, however, it is probably better that Iranians' Internet activity center on Twitter and other such tools.

Who cares about Second Life anyway?  The people playing that game make the Halo 3 killer look fine.

Not surprised, due to the internet blocking the government is going through right now. It's pretty interesting to see how Twitter and other parts of the internet are opening up speech in restricted areas.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

I say just ignore this kind of madness. You really should take the time to read neo_drkefkas posts though. They're entertaining to say the least.

And man, I feel sorry for the Iranian people right now. This is going to be a shitstorm of epic proportions.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

We should open up and support the Iranian Gov besides they are going to need the money to put down their citzens. We are doing the right thing in Cuba besides don't listen to those vile older Cubans in florida who dared leave paradise in mark shift rafts, they are crazy!

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

Iran is a great nation and the elects were fair, unlike American elections were they elected the God-President Barrack Obama who is good President not to come out and support freedom and the Protesters like other Presidents since this one wants to think for us and has appointed not elected a Pay Czar to tell us all what we can and cannot make and who can make this and that regardless if you took bailout money!

Let us all watch MSNBC to watch the glory of our God-President and get a funny feeling down our leg like an MSNBC anchor when we see the choosen one speak!

We should not meddling and yell freedom since we are too busy taking away the freedom of our own citzens.

And anyone who speaks out publicly against The One we be illegally investigated like that vile Plumber! Freedom of Speech bah Freedom of Reilgon? Only if your a Muslim! Elections, we need to remove those and appoint the right people!

FOR YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR BARRACK OBAMA!

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

It's a knock on Obama, I think, so I should like it, but it's so poorly worded that I can't bring myself to.

Hmm, this is a very curious statement.  Usually when I hear someone mention unfair American election results, I think of... um, a different President.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

Well it all depends, do you wish to have a "fair" election or a "constitutional" election? Technically, the election of Presidents was never meant to be anything related to the public at all. It was meant to be a group of elites (electors) that voted for a president, insulated from public opinion, because frankly, (and it has been proven time and time again), the American public is too stupid to vote for a good president. That's why Senators originally were voted by state legislatures and not by popular vote also, to keep the public out of it. However, senator elections became grossly corrupted by state legislatures abusing their powers and so the...I believe it was the 17th amendment was made to bring that power "to the people." I think we're screwed either way, because we'll never have any electors or public opinion that is as supportive of rights as it needs to be, we're in a downward spiral and nothing is gonna stop it...nothing short of a revolution =/

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

As much as a crazy fuck you are, I must say I am very dissapointed that Obama would rather remain silent on the corrupt election (there is really no doubt) and the violence being used on PEACEFUL protesters by a regime that is afraid more than anything of loosing power. I myself am an Iranian and even lived there for nine months when I was kid.

I voted for Obama, but I am not sure I am getting what I voted for. Or you know what, maybe I am.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

If you recall, during his 'world apology tour '09', he said he wouldn't try to dictate policy to the middle-east anymore.  Except for Israel, who he can apparently tell to stop growing their settlements.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

Well considering Israel is actively practicing the murder of thousands of innocent Palestinians as we speak and are constantly violating the various treaties that have been signed to expand their country...America should be telling Israel to fuck off and quit being douches.

There's a citation too, apologies if I seem argumentative, I know that Hamas has down horrid things too, but the Israeli army sure tops anything that Hamas has done so far.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

Well, Palestinians are practicing the murder of thousands of innocent Isrealis.  Not to mention that Israel belonged to the Jews before it was forceably taken by Muslims over a thousand years ago.

You wanna talk about who's land it is?  Read a history book.

Before you respond, I'll prove it by pointing out that every time a Muslim nation has an excavation of ancient buildings, all of the writing is in Hebrew or Aramaic, the languages of the Jews.

I'll translate all of that for any users that couldn't understand him. "Baaahhhh, bahhh, baaaaahhhh, look at me I'm just a sheeple controlled by my bible-thumping parents and completely convinced by Faux News and WorldNetDaily that Israel is the next closest thing to America in terms of righteousness and all Muslims must be terrorists, even if they're defending their own land."

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

I'm an Atheist.  Shows how stupid you are.

I do believe that Israel could handle the situation better.  However, a big part of the problem is that a lot of hard-line Muslims believe that Israel shouldn't exist, and that Jews have no right to live.  That's called Racism.  I thought that you libs were against Racism.  Oh, wait, that's only when it supports your ideals of Communism.

The fact of the matter is Muslims stole the land from Jews.  It was taken back from Muslims and given to Jews.  Muslims never liked this.  That's why they hate America.  If you dispute this, you don't know your history.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

God forbid someone actually admit that American policy and the attitude that our leaders have taken to represent this nation in the past was flawed.. GO AMERICA, FUCK THE WORLD! Should not be the message tossed out by our diplomats. You just have to get it through your thick skull that we are EQUALS with most other civilized nations. Not all mind you, but most industrialized, civilized nations like England, Germany, and Russia.

That being said, I actually think Obama keeping silent is probably the best thing for Iran. Think of how the endorsement of Obama by Al Queda and Hamas was used by his opponents to scaremonger and use fear tactics to try to earn votes. Dont you think that if Obama endorsed one candidate over the other, the same thing would happen in Iran? Not to mention, should Obama's endorsed candidate not get the position, that would put an unessesary strain on already tearing relationship between Iran and the US. In this situaton, silence is the best option.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

How dare you even question the God-President of Barrack Obama? What are you an evil American Terrorist who supports the US of KKK Flag Republican? Obama knows better then you and if you question the President or think differently from him as the DHS has announced you are a terrorist!

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

There are very few middle-east 'nations' that I would call our equals.  Actually, only Qatar comes to mind.  Iran, for example, is far beneath us, as is North Korea.  Right now, Iran is actively doing its best to suppress the voice of its people while who knows what is going on (there have already been reports of one massacre, who knows how many will go unreported?).  And those people have every right to be angry; as was mentioned in a CNN op-ed piece today (or yesterday, I can't remember, I was reading it on my cell phone) they said Ahmadinejad had won the election with 61% of the vote only two hours ater the election was over.  Remember Florida?  Remember Minnesota?  It takes a hell of a long time to count votes.

As for Obama's lack of comment, it's just plain cowardly.  There are millions in an uproar in Iran because their vote was ignored, they're being killed during protest, and he says nothing?  What cowardice.  Meanwhile, Khomeni part 2 is saying that anyone who disagrees with the election is basically disagreeing with God, because he backs Ahmadinejad and he talks for God and this other bullshit, and is calling a sizeable portion of his populace blasphemers.

Standing by while human rights are violated is cowardly.  And God knows you can't trust the UN to do anything about it.

Also, @PHX Corp, reading comprehension. He is calling him God-President, etc. sarcastically and is actually vehemently opposed to him. If you read his other posts, crazy as they are, you will see he is actually quite a right wing conservative.

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

"you will see he is actually quite a sheepishly religious nutjob." Fixed it for ya, I don't wanna be anywhere associated with him as a conservative. He's beyond conservative, he's un-American and nuts.

He is taking his words DIRECTLY from Sean Hannity's radio broadcast..

You must be in Bizzaro world, like you seem to think, because none of what either you or him said make any lick of sense..

Re: As Protests Rage, Iranian Second Life Residents Are ...

the reason why Iranian people are not on, is the fact thier govt has banned the internet over the protest, yet they still come through to tell the US everything that is happening(I can cite 2 articles of what is going on) here it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Iranian_election_protests
