Disbarred-for-life Miami attorney Jack Thompson has dropped off the radar a good bit since his attempt to have video game legislation adopted in Utah earlier this year turned into an unforgettable mashup of soap opera, comedy and fail.
But a [possibly NSFW] promo video for the new season of Penn & Teller Bullshit! reminds us that Thompson will be appearing on the ShowTime series in coming weeks (did we hear July 9th?). Last September it was GamePolitics which broke the news that Thompson was being interviewed for P&TBS.
Thompson appears in the new season's promo video just long enough to utter a single line, but it's classic JT:

Actually, it's more like "Grand Theft Auto is the worst thing to happen to kids since...polio." There's a cut right before he says "polio". Makes me wonder what other BS P&T had to cut out.
Well I'm split on that, as much as I dislike Thompson, I really dislike Penn (Not so much Teller, who is a cool guy) and his philosophy. So chances are he just cut out ramblings of Thompson naming as many diseases as possible.
While there's no doubt they do that often and their show and they freely admit it, it doesn't appear to be the case here, jack was just thinking of something bad to say and they panned in when he said it for emphasis.

The use of the term "Thought Crime" is what made his defense of RapePlay absolutely sickening. Not the term, but also the fact that it defined libertarian philosophy in protection legislation. Matthew Sheppard hate crime bill, the main argument against it (By conservatives AND LIBERTARIANS) being it is legislation against thought crime. Sorry, but I don't respect an ideology that would idly stand by on protection policies like hate crime laws.
That and the fact that libertarian philosophy doesn't understand the concept of cultural hegemony. Nor do they acknowledge the arguments by people like Richard Hofstadter, who understood that social progress would make those against it, more aggressive and violent against the minorites. Which is exactly what happens everytime.

If hate crime laws really do make things thoughtcrime than they are horrible laws.
Although thinking about committing some horrible deed should NEVER be illegal because it harms no noe and it is VERY possible to think of doing something and not actually do it.
No one should ever be punished for the thoughts/ideas/opinions that they have but rather the actions that they take. This is why the idea of punishing "thought crime" is so damn sickening.
Also I've never heard Penn's position on hate crime, so please do back up the premise that Penn is against hatecrime laws.

IMO "hate crime" and PCisim in general are fake logic feel good measures that don't really help things. Though I suppose if one looks at rape as a female specific issue like hate speech against blacks/jews,ect one could go to the next extreme and ban it under hate speech since it involves violence...but that would lead to whole sale slide down teh slippery slope we are already wobbling on.....
If people constantly assault others or kill others then theres good reason to toss away the key, if they get in random scuffles with no real injuries a good way to gain revenue off them for the localities, you don't need to trump up things which are already a crime.

No, the only thing hate crime legislation does is aid in the investigation, and prosecution efforts by including the federal justice department. It has nothing to do with "Thought Crime", which is a buzz term by libertarians and bigots to scare themselves into thinking that people are being prosecuted for their beliefs. Which is bullshit. I'm telling you that hate crime laws don't have anything, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, to do with the person's beliefs.
But this has nothing to do with the Hate Crimes bill, but it has to do with the term "Thought Crime". Which is as I have previously said, a buzz term. I'm saying that the defense Penn uses every time to describe lesgislative protection (Whether it be necessary or unecessary), he uses to term "Thought Crime", which is used against hate crime bills in defense of bigots assholes and psychopaths.
Hmm... actually no, hate crime legislation add unneeded complications to what is already a lengthy legal process in trying and convicting a felon. Do you have any idea how much time and money gets sunk into every murder trial? Look it up sometime. Now add more time and money in investigating whether or not the person did it because they were a different skin color/religion/sexual orientation. Personally, I'd rather murderers, rapists, assaulters, thieves and gang bangers get tried for what they are rather than whether what they did was maybe fueled by hate which most crimes are anyways.
Also, thought crimes are not a "buzz word". It is a very real threat to our basic human freedoms. The foundation of our justice system is "innocent until proven guilty" and by punshing someone for thinking about committing a crime rather than doing it goes against that ideal. The fact of the matter is that hate crimes are just another way to punishing someone more harshly because they may have had thoughts and feelings that were different about this person because of their nationality or religious choices.
Hate crimes are crimes and should be punished like the crime it is. If someone murders another person because the murderer was white and the victim was black, it's not a "hate crime". It's a crime. Period. There wasn't anything that separates that murder from another murder. One person kills another person, unless in self-defense, because they hate that person. It has nothing to do with sex, race or creed and everything to do with the fact that the murderer just plain hated the victim.
We need to stop singling people out because of what race they are or what god/gods they choose to worship and realise that people are just that: people. Cultural differences aside, we all have the same thoughts and feelings and our bodies pump the same blood through the same heart and operate because of the same electrical impulses from a brain. Stop segregating people because of that they appear to be and accept people for who they are.

What happened to Matthew Sheppard was horrible. It was the worst thing that could possibly happen to another human being (he was murdered). Why should it be more horrible because he was gay? What difference does it make WHY he was murdered in the eyes of the law? Catch the people who did it and throw them in jail for life (or put them down like the animals they are).
Why should a "white on black" (or, as is more frequently the case with the Hate Crime laws, "black on white") crime be "worse" in the eyes of the law than the crime itself? How about people just stop treating each other like savages, period, but if someone does, regardless of skin color or ideology, they be properly punished for crimes? Does this mean it's MORE acceptable to murder someone as long as they have the same skin color as you? If Matthew Sheppard had been murdered by a gay man, would it have been more socially appealing?
Hate Crime laws are redundancies and complexities stacked on an overburdened justice system. If you kill someone, you go to jail. If you rob someone, you go to jail. That should be the end of story instead of turning it into a federal civil rights trial.
Because they differ from HIS philosophy on social issues of course.

You do know a semi-automatic weapon is just a regular handgun, or most non-bolt action rifles, right? These are weapons that children that young use for hunting all the time. A little education goes a long way.

It is perfectly legal for a child to use a firearm, so long as there is adult supervision. I do not know the specifics of this particular situation, but I doubt they gave this child a gun and just let him run off without anyone watching him.

The crime rates in Japan are also incredibly low, does it have to do with the censorring of violent video games? Hardly, in fact it has nothing to do with it. It is a cultural and social thing, same goes for the incredibly high suicide rates.

You haven't really gone too much into your argument in any of your posts besides calling penn and teller jackasses, and heads up their asses and so on.
I'd like you to describe clearly and concisely how charging someone who plays/posesses RapeLay is not a thought crime. Zero people are harmed from their consumption of RapeLay, and if they are being charged because they MIGHT rape someone (or otherwise sexually assault them) then that is a thought crime, plain and simple.

Funny thing, many months ago when they filmed it...Jack had some crazy idea that it went well and that "we will be surprised". When Penn & Teller's film crews go out, the interviewee has no idea what show it's going to be on. That's the only way they can get people like jack to say what they want to hear.
