Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules Game-Bashing July 4th Guest

July 3, 2009

Last week, GamePolitics broke the news that the ultra-conservative Eagle Forum had filed a "friend of the court" brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Calfornia's bid to have its 2005 violent video game law reviewed by the justices.

The rambling brief sought to link video games with everything from school shootings to poor grades to sudden death.

The group, founded by conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, wades back into gamer space tomorrow when video game critic Arthur Ally appears as a guest on Eagle Forum Live, a radio show hosted by Schlafly.

Ally bills himself as a morally-responsible fund manager. In December his Timothy Plan investment fund issued a list of 30 "most offensive" video games, including the likes of World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online and Halo 3.

Ally also rather famously criticized Army of Two for "somewhat homo-erotic undertones between the two main characters."

Ironically, the conversation between this pair of would-be censors airs at 11:00 a.m. Central Time on Independence Day.

They wouldn't even sign the contract, likely calling the expo a gathering of satanic worshippers.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

Now now. I hate to correct you, but we pagans are the "Satanic" worshippers. :P Obviously, we use our EEEVIIIL MAAAGIIIIC OOOooo! to control you to play games where we have secretly inserted messages of the Anti-Christ; kind of like when we used rock music by having the messages reversed in the songs. Except video games are our new medium.

Then we hold these expos to mass-control you all, and select a few from the crowd to bring into the back and sacrifice you in some ritualistic orgy (think "Bible Black", if you know what that is) to please our dark master and gain some of his power.

And the Eagle Forum, and the Third Wave of the Holy Spirit movement (especially C. Peter Wagner (look him up if you must; he's kind of the head behind the movement) are the only ones who can stop us. Mr. Wagnar with his prayer wars atop of Mt. Everest (Not making this up:www.talk2action.org/story/2008/12/28/13255/764) and the Eagle Forum to support them. They are out to expose us, oh noes!

Actually, I have no idea if the Eagle Forum has affiliation to this movement. I'd assume so, however, since it seems right up their alley.

Say what you like about the other things he said, but he's right about Army of Poo.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

True, but that's not enough of a reason to call it "offensive" and get it banned on that cause.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

Army of Turd-burglars is offensive, but only because such an obviously homo-erotic game was made by folks who must have thought they were making it ultra-manly.  It's comical because most of its die-hard fans also think it's ultra-manly and not at all gay.  Not sure how they rationalize the 'two guys on one parachute' issue, but hey.

But at least they finally made a game that the GLBT community can wholeheartedly embrace.  And THAT'S probably why the Eagle Forum consider it offensive.

Just like wrestling!

Thank god that only idiots listen to what they have to say.

What is it about people who look like they were vacuum-formed rather than raised?

james_fudgeWith MS willing to share with the government, an always listening device should give everyone pause.06/18/2013 - 1:37pm
james_fudgeyou can't turn off the Microphone on the Kinect and it has to be plugged in. It's not rocket science.06/18/2013 - 1:35pm
E. Zachary KnightThe Humble Bundle Guys just don't like me having money in my pocket do they? https://www.humblebundle.com/06/18/2013 - 1:12pm
E. Zachary KnightCMiner, I know that my Android camera is off unless I am using an application that turns it on. Same with the microphone.06/18/2013 - 12:38pm
CMinerCan you turn off the camera on an iPhone? Like, -really- turn it off, not just change a setting that -tells- you the camera is off?06/18/2013 - 12:13pm
james_fudgewhen they make it a requirement, yes they are06/18/2013 - 12:10pm
CMinerI just don't think Microsoft bears any more (or less) responsibility for privacy with its Kinect camera than do the makers of laptops or smartphones with integrated cameras.06/18/2013 - 12:00pm
ImautobotThe ability to operate the console without the camera is key. It's a peripheral, not directly integrated into the console, and yet it behaves as if it is. Thankfully I don't have kids, and won't have an Xbone either.06/18/2013 - 11:49am
CMinerOh, I agree that the decision to make the kinect mandatory/always listening is terrible.06/18/2013 - 11:48am
E. Zachary KnightCMiner, and the easier the provider makes to do such things, the better. The fact that the XBone will not even funtion without it plugged in and turned on in some fashion makes a world of difference from a PC Webcam.06/18/2013 - 11:38am
CMinerIt takes steps on the user's part to ensure 100% privacy (unplugging, uninstalling, putting tape over it, not putting it in the kid's rooms, etc)06/18/2013 - 11:29am
CMinerMy point is that no webcam producing company can guarantee that no one will ever ever ever be able to access video from that webcam without your knowledge and permission06/18/2013 - 11:28am
E. Zachary KnightOf course at that point, you are still opening up yourself to Windows zero day vulnerabilities and back doors that they are happy to share with the government before Windows users.06/18/2013 - 11:26am
E. Zachary KnightCminer, I don't because I wipe the OS and reinstall something more secure, Linux. Even still, just wiping the OS and reinstalling Windows fresh removes all the bloatware PC companies install.06/18/2013 - 11:26am
E. Zachary KnightI agree that the Kinect requirement of the XBone has my civil liberty senses tingling. Just another nail in the coffin for me.06/18/2013 - 11:25am
E. Zachary KnightHonestly, I wouldn't put anything with an integrated camera in my kids' rooms. You are just asking for trouble. Of course, I am not a fan of having tvs/videogames/computers in kids rooms in general.06/18/2013 - 11:24am
CMinerIn the case of integrated webcams on laptops, do you have the same concern that people at Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc might be spying on you?06/18/2013 - 11:24am
E. Zachary KnightI love awesome indie devs. Incredipede is free if you run linux! http://www.incredipede.com/linux.html Thanks @ColinNorthway You're the best.06/18/2013 - 11:23am
ImautobotMore creepy is that the Xbox Camera can see in the dark. Now we're in Buffalo Bill territory.06/18/2013 - 11:21am
