Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules Game-Bashing July 4th Guest

July 3, 2009 -

Last week, GamePolitics broke the news that the ultra-conservative Eagle Forum had filed a "friend of the court" brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Calfornia's bid to have its 2005 violent video game law reviewed by the justices.

The rambling brief sought to link video games with everything from school shootings to poor grades to sudden death.

The group, founded by conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, wades back into gamer space tomorrow when video game critic Arthur Ally appears as a guest on Eagle Forum Live, a radio show hosted by Schlafly.

Ally bills himself as a morally-responsible fund manager. In December his Timothy Plan investment fund issued a list of 30 "most offensive" video games, including the likes of World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online and Halo 3.

Ally also rather famously criticized Army of Two for "somewhat homo-erotic undertones between the two main characters."

Ironically, the conversation between this pair of would-be censors airs at 11:00 a.m. Central Time on Independence Day.

They wouldn't even sign the contract, likely calling the expo a gathering of satanic worshippers.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

Now now. I hate to correct you, but we pagans are the "Satanic" worshippers. :P Obviously, we use our EEEVIIIL MAAAGIIIIC OOOooo! to control you to play games where we have secretly inserted messages of the Anti-Christ; kind of like when we used rock music by having the messages reversed in the songs. Except video games are our new medium.

Then we hold these expos to mass-control you all, and select a few from the crowd to bring into the back and sacrifice you in some ritualistic orgy (think "Bible Black", if you know what that is) to please our dark master and gain some of his power.

And the Eagle Forum, and the Third Wave of the Holy Spirit movement (especially C. Peter Wagner (look him up if you must; he's kind of the head behind the movement) are the only ones who can stop us. Mr. Wagnar with his prayer wars atop of Mt. Everest (Not making this up:www.talk2action.org/story/2008/12/28/13255/764) and the Eagle Forum to support them. They are out to expose us, oh noes!

Actually, I have no idea if the Eagle Forum has affiliation to this movement. I'd assume so, however, since it seems right up their alley.

Say what you like about the other things he said, but he's right about Army of Poo.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

True, but that's not enough of a reason to call it "offensive" and get it banned on that cause.

Re: Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules ...

Army of Turd-burglars is offensive, but only because such an obviously homo-erotic game was made by folks who must have thought they were making it ultra-manly.  It's comical because most of its die-hard fans also think it's ultra-manly and not at all gay.  Not sure how they rationalize the 'two guys on one parachute' issue, but hey.

But at least they finally made a game that the GLBT community can wholeheartedly embrace.  And THAT'S probably why the Eagle Forum consider it offensive.

Just like wrestling!

Thank god that only idiots listen to what they have to say.

What is it about people who look like they were vacuum-formed rather than raised?

Matthew Wilsonyes it help a sub section of the poor, but hurt both the middle and upper class. in the end way more people were hurt than helped. also, it hurt most poor people as well.04/16/2014 - 12:13am

NeenekoSo "worked" vs "failed" really comes down to who you think is more important and deserving04/15/2014 - 7:04pm
NeenekoThough I am also not sure we can say NYC failed. Rent control helped the people it was intended for and is considered a failure by the people it was designed to protect them from.04/15/2014 - 7:04pm
NeenekoIf they change the rules, demand will plummet. Though yeah, rent control probably would not help much in the SF case. I doubt anything will.04/15/2014 - 1:35pm

Matthew Wilsonyup, but curent city rules do not allow for that.04/15/2014 - 11:00am
ZippyDSMleeIf SF dose not start building upwards then they will price people out of the aera.04/15/2014 - 10:59am
Matthew Wilsonthe issue rent control has it reduces supply, and in SF case they already has a supply problem. rent control ofen puts rent below cost, or below profit of selling it. rent control would not fix this issue.04/15/2014 - 10:56am
NeenekoRent control is useful in moderation, NYC took it way to far and tends to be held up as an example of them not working, but in most cases they are more subtle and positive.04/15/2014 - 10:24am

Matthew Wilsonwhat are you saying SF should do rent control, that has never worked every time it has been tried. the issue here is a self inflicted supply problem imposed by stupid laws.04/15/2014 - 8:52am
E. Zachary KnightNeeneko, Government created price controls don't work though. They may keep prices down for the current inhabitants, but they are the primary cause of recently vacated residences having astronomical costs. Look at New York City as a prime example.04/15/2014 - 8:50am
NeenekoI think free markets are important, but believe in balance. Too much of any force and things get unstable.04/15/2014 - 7:25am
NeenekoWell, the traditional way of keeping prices down is what they are doing, controls on lease termination and tax code, but it will not be enough in this case.04/15/2014 - 7:24am
Matthew WilsonI said that already04/14/2014 - 4:22pm
E. Zachary KnightMatthew, The could also lower prices by increasing supply. Allow high rise apartment buildings to be built to fulfill demand and prices will drop.04/14/2014 - 3:48pm
Matthew Wilsonthe only way they could keep the price's down, would be to kick out google, apple, amazon, and other tech companies, but that would do a ton of economic damage to SF, but I am a major proponent of free markets04/14/2014 - 2:54pm
NeenekoThe community people are seeking gets destroyed in the process, and the new people are not able to build on themselves. Generally these situations result in local cultural death in a decade or so, and no one wins.04/14/2014 - 2:09pm
NeenekoWell yes, that is the 'free market', but the market is only a small piece of a much larger system. The market does not always do the constructive thing.04/14/2014 - 2:06pm
